Head Coach Search

So do you continue with the in house team or start searching outside?

Going to be a big offseason, cant see the big tradable QB looking to come in without Payton at the helm. For me i would be looking outside for a fresh coach with new ideas who can build the team he wants, not trying to carry on with the same plan with a difference voice. Or if you want to go down the Dennis Allen route would you just change things up at OC

Who would the forum look at as possible replacements

Re: Head Coach Search

The turd bucket got Taysom Hill a contract extension and ducked the hell out. I'm getting pretty pissed thinking about this.

I'm fine with promoting within.

If I have my way DA is the answer and we keep the rest of Sean's staff.

Re: Head Coach Search

Depends…Is he done with the Saints or just taking a year off? I think that’s the deciding factor.

I’m pissed that he was good with giving Taysom that contract then leaving. Might as well start trading/cutting players that were bad decisions. Hill, Peat, Ruiz, Jenkins, etc…

We are beyond salary cap hell. No good coach is going to want to come here so our best option is to promote from within and clear this dead weight.

Re: Head Coach Search

Cap hell is the reality even if some won’t admit it. Yes we could keep the band together if we restructure all our big contracts to prorate more bad money into future years, but the band was 9-8, will be a year older and more injuries in, and this will just put us in the same cap hell next year. In this cycle we cant add anyone and the bad contracts we restructure leave them with even more guaranteed money and potential dead cap if cut in future years, so we end uo renewing our vows with taysom hill, andrus peat, and michael thomas, tearing up whatever prenup we might have, betting big on Lattimore being the same player in his 30’s, and the cycle continues until Peat is 45 and inactive every week with a $100 million cap his if his 10 years of prorated bonuses are triggered with a cut.

Top coaches would not be wise to take the Saints job. The best bet is for young defensive coaches who this is their only shot, who can make a name on our defensive players even if the offense is poor, and perhaps weather the storm and get a job as a top DC even if they just last 2 mediocre to poor seasons here. A young offensive coach would be unwise to take the Saints gig given our only decent receiver combined then grievances of a young antonio brown with the ankle health of a post-browns terrelle pryor, our top qb under contract is a 30-something running qb coming off a multiweek concussion and lis franc injury who has never stayed healthy as a starter at any level, we are locked into playing Andrus Peat and or paying his medical bills by his bad contract, we dont have the cap to make improvements, and to make a splash a young OC simply needs to succeed with the same pieces that Sean Payton couldnt. So an Aaron Glenn or Dennis Allen could make sense. Or someone could insist on a 5-10 year contract and GM powers and do the rebuild for 2 years.

Caldwell could slowly get us out of cap hell and build a good overall team. I'm not an Allen fan. Just wonder if he bails if he doesn't get the HC job even if so there are some pretty good DC's out there.

Re: Head Coach Search

The more i think of it the more i would look to move in a fresh team.
Promote those young enough who want to be there long term.

Problem i see staying with someone like Pete Carmichael is he will likely try to stay with the same playbook he has been used to for the past 15 years and the league is rapidly changing. And we have no Brees who was the playbook. For me i would be looking for a young coach, let him build his team and stick with him. It would likely be painful for a year or two while you clear some of the highly overpayed players who won't be around but clear him cap space over the next season or two for picks and let him rebuild for the long term. I honestly think the worse thing to do would be to panic and try and hold it all together, keep the vets as a need presence etc and Clearing space by extending the like of Peat,Jenkins etc again. Again something that would likely mean some hard trades(Jordan/Thomas) etc.

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Re: Head Coach Search

Bring in a young, innovative offensive mind.

Kellen Moore, Eric Bienemy, Byron Leftwich, or Bryan Daboll (Bills OC).

I'm good with that too. But in doing so, you likely lose the majority of the defensive staff as well.
