Well, he’s already familiar with Pete C & the offense.

Time will tell.

That.

Plus he's grown, matured (somewhat) and maybe most important of all - players LOVE him. They'll rally for him.

I'm not in the locker room, just going off what I've seen personally.

Outside of landing a big name QB like Wilson or Watson, Jameis should be able to thrive this year and also allow us $ to surround him with talent.

Re: Why Jameis Winston is STILL Saints best QB option

Winston has a very impressive arm that can bail a team out of bad drives. I am not sold on Winston being able to sustain drives, he was terrible on short passes/screen game, and although the interceptions went down in his 7 starts, the jury is still out regarding his overall decision making.

With all that said, I don't see Rodgers, Wilson, Jimmy G, or D Watson coming to the Saints. By default Winston is the best option that will be available to the Saints, with Bridgewater maybe as the top fallback option.

Re: Why Jameis Winston is STILL Saints best QB option

Smash uploaded a video of the Dennis Allen press conference.

In that conference, Dennis stated he will run the football & create explosive plays. That sounds like JW to me. He executes well off play-action and throws a beautiful deep ball.

I hope Loomis/Dennis/Carmichael's plan is to re sign Jameis. Not because of "default", but by the fact he has won meaningful games in New Orleans, & is extremely familiar with the offense.

Imagine what he could do if he had weapons at WR/TE.

Option B - Kirk Cousins (average QB)? Porn star Jimmy G (choked in the post season)? Marriota (former 1st rounder/now a backup)? Desean? Gonna cost you serious draft capital.

IMO JW is the best possible option for us.

The team won 9 games last year with Winston or Hill at QB. That was with no WR play, no TE play, very injured Oline play and no kicker for 3/4 of the year. Go along with COVID and hurricane issues.

Now, I’m not trying to argue (as I am repeatedly accused of doing) because you could easily be correct. But what makes you think Winston can’t succeed? Is it just the short game issues?

5-2 with a high QBR. If you're LOL'ing, you're missing the reality of what he could bring in a full season.

There seems to be certain segments of the public that refuse to judge Winston on his football abilities for whatever reason. I think it goes way back to his college days.

Here you go, race baiting again.

Please define 'certain segments' Mr Race Baiter.

Do you think people actually judge him for his performance? And do they have any reason to believe he's not the answer, or are you going to call people racist outright. Your history here as a race baiter is the reason for this response, in the event your NPD precludes you from understanding.

What would be your Plan @ QB for 2022? Let's assume JW signs elsewhere.

Wentz? Trubisky? Trade for Porn Star Jimmy? Trevor Semian (UFA) ?

As 76 eluded to earlier, JW was a winner in New Orleans. 5-2 with scrubs at WR. Imagine how many more games we win if he doesn't tear his ACL.

I just don't see ARod, Desean W or Russ W walking through those doors on Metairie Dr.

Not with our oline and lack of WRs that's to be sure. I can't say, but I'm wondering if that's why Pete is going to be our OC.

I really believe the X factor in 2022 will be Dougie M as O line coach. He's old school and won't sugar coat bad play (Ruiz, Peat). Produce, play at a high level or have a seat. I will say Peat is good at run blocking but Cesar needs a lot of work. Wasn't impressed at center OR guard. The "whiffing" put our QBs/RB in bad spots in a lot of games.

Don't rule out the Saints drafting another interior lineman (mid rounds) either.

I wouldn't be mad if we used multiple picks up front. We were bad before all the injuries/covid across the line.

Can someone please explain to me why this is race baiting? There are most certainly persons that cannot ignore Winston's immaturity issues while at FSU as I alluded. He's never been given a fair shake because of the crab leg and student union incident. Yeah, it was dumb, but the guy is still a pretty damned good NFL QB when given the chance. And, yeah, there were the lawsuits claiming sexual assault while at the same college. Not a good optic, for sure. But that was all in the past. The guy is a good QB.

Your history of race baiting - which you have done on multiple occasions on this and other topics - which you gloss over and use the excuse "I was going through a difficult time" and call that bullshinski an 'apology'. Nobody cares. That's why, and if you have a problem you can easily PM me rather than involve the board, unless, of course, you're simply trying (again) to be a victim.

Given your history, maybe you should consider your words very carefully rather than "alluding" (read: excuse) before you try and slip in yet another race baiting post.

Onward we go. The 'evidence' for this behavior (not by me) is just a few threads back:

https://blackandgold.com/saints/101566-holy-f-s.html

And that's just the fallout - not the root cause, so to speak. And I'm 'slandering'? What you mean is libel, but as I have explained to you the ultimate defense against that assessment is the truth, which even when put in front of your face you deny. NPD to the core.

But you're right. I am obsessed with stopping you from doing that here, and I don't care what personal problems you use as an excuse. Go do that crap on twitter. No room for it here.

Again, do you care enough to own it and stop it? Still waiting...

I'm firmly in the school of being able to SEE downfield was part of his problem (Thank God for Lasik.) The other part was having a good QB coach. The third part, a system that defined the QB's role...do's and don'ts.

I honestly think this guy will be a STEAL from the FA market if we get him to stay and develop into a team leader. I was happy with what I saw up until the injury and I believe the organization would be foolish to allow him to walk without kicking the tires and seeing what's left to drive the bus!

Well said. I also think his issues with indecisiveness or on short passes was
in large part do to Payton drilling into him to not turn the ball over. It seemed to me that was firmly in the back of his mind on most of his drop backs. It was working since his INT totals dropped so much, but it also made him a bit tentative. Another year as the starter in the same system with improved OL and WR play and I think he could easily be a top 10 QB.

Re: Why Jameis Winston is STILL Saints best QB option

The reason I don't want Jameis Winston as the QB is that I think that this new generation of QB is going to be better than the last generation of QB. I think guys like Tua and Lawrence are eventually going to be really good QBs. You already have guys like Herbert, Burrow, Mahomes. You have some of the older guys in there like Rodgers and Stafford. We're living in an age where it's going to be hard to win a Superbowl without a guy leading your team that is at the very least incredibly proficient. I think Jameis would have been ok 10 years ago, but not now. What stands out to me is the Titans-Bengals game. You have an above average but not great QB on one side and a young prodigy on the otherside who is fearless. The Titans were the best team all year long. You had a close game. Titans have a chance to go down and win the game, Tannehill throws a pick(though you could argue it wasn't his fault). A QB inspires his team though. Burrow made both the offense and defense better for the Bengals just by being who he was. He gets the ball and does what Tannehill couldn't... throws a great sideline pass. Kicker kicks the FG and they go on to the AFC title game. A team that shouldn't even be competitive on paper beats the either the best or second best team in the league on paper. I don't think we can win a Super Bowl anymore with just having a decent QB and a strong defense. You don't even have to have a great offense tbh, but you have to have that guy that every knows they can rely on when the time is ripe. I don't feel like Winston is that. I really really really want Bryce Young. I think the guy is another one of those prodigies coming up... a guy I think will be a better version of Russell Wilson. We need to get our hands on a guy like that somehow otherwise we are going to be stuck going 9-8, 8-9, 10-7, 7-10 for a long time and are going to struggle to win any playoff games we get. This years draft isn't that impressive at the QB position imo. I think we should start accumulating draft stock.

Good points. I’d agree having a young stud QB like the guys you mentioned would be great, but they aren’t available right now. Winston is. Winning a SB might be a long shot for a while. Winning our division next year would be a
good start though. I think they could do that with Winston.

Let’s look at another recent QB in the news with Kyler Murray. He’s having some kind of issues with the Cards. He may be available. Would he be better than Winston? IDK. Murray may more physical upside. Winston at this point seems to have more maturity and a better attitude.

Having MT back changes a lot of things. I'd go into camp with all 3 QBs competing for the role on equal footing and whoever comes out gets it. No one has really shown anything yet worthy of committing to. I've seen good moments from all of the QBs and bad moments as well. Having a consistent receiver will change how they all approach the offense.

Who would YOU like to see as your starter for 2022 at QB?

Not asking for 3 QB's. Let's elimnate Ian Book because he's years away & it's highly unlikely the Saints resign Trevor Semian.

Coaching and health. If Ram, McCoy and, yes even Peat come back healthy that is a decent start.
