Let's Talk Trade Deadline

We have some players who have substantial trade value and the trade deadline is coming up soon. I've read several different articles about whether it's a good idea to move on from our core group.

On one hand, we could hold onto key players and continue with the win now mentality while pushing the cap down the road. The team could also trade for another impact veteran to help with a late season push if that's the direction they want to go. It's worked before.

On the other hand, the front office might realize it's too late/too little and begin trading key pieces now for for a rebuild next year. That might be tough to pull off with most players having been through numerous contract extensions and being tied to the team. I'm not advocating a fire sale by any means but it's worth discussing.

Looking at the cap hits for our top players it's hard to see much interest from other teams. We unloaded Cee Dee for next to nothing and I worry about the decisions by the front office this offseason. I sure hope we don't trade with Philly again. They got a heck of a deal.

Who could/would you trade?

I wouldn't trade anyone. Now I wouldn't mind picking someone up that can fill a need to make a run.

I would have no problem with Flores. Not mid season, however.

Great. Got anybody in mind? A DT/RB maybe.

Not much available at RB, nor do I see the need. Kamara, Ingram, and company (including Taysom) can handle that moving forward. I can see DT, however. Onyemata has disappeared for some reason. Maybe some vet that can give some guard depth. Throckmorton is killing us with his presnap crap. Hopefully Penning will be back soon to fill the LT role. Ruiz, believe it or not, is perhaps our most consistent performing OL right now.

David Onyemata just doesn't look the same since his PED suspension. It's a shame. We really need a push up the middle.

The Ceedy trade was dumb, considering he was one of our best players and we got basically nothing for him.
If we are trying to gain back draft capital, I'd start with the Davenport.
We are never getting 2 firsts back for him, but he doesn't show up that much anyway, so if we could get a 3rd round pick, or a little higher I'd be happy.

We have a pretty old roster so I don't think there is a ton of value in our players. I don't want to lose AK, he makes the offense go. Likewise, don't want to lose Cam Jordan, he's about 10 years older than Davenport, and still looks more active.

If we could get a first rounder for Thomas, I'd take it. I just don't know which team would do that now, considering he's always injured.

Guys like Mathieu and Evans, if you could get something for them, great, if not I think they should be sent on their way.
You can see it in Mathieu's play, he doesn't care anymore.

Ceedy trade made absolutely no sense. Even with the attitude we could have gotten a second and a player. It’s like they are purposely making moves that will set the team back. Moving next years first was dumb considering our Qb situation. They know as well as anyone that Winston and Hill aren’t long term solutions. It’s like they don’t have a plan.
