Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton
hmmm circular reasoning. I may need to consult ChatGPT to keep up with your "logic"
|
Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton
Quote:
1) The Saints give permission to teams to talk to Payton if they agreed to lowest level of compensation 2) Payton and those teams then feel each other out to determine mutual interest 3) Interested teams make an offer to Payton 4) Payton decides which offer he wishes to accept or whether he wants to return to Fox instead 5) If Payton wishes to accept an offer, the acquiring team and the Saints negotiate final terms of compensation for rights to Payton Note: I cannot see the scenario where Payton does not care which of two offers he accepts and allows the Saints and those two offering teams to enter into some sort of bid war to determine where he goes. Nor can I see the scenario of two teams willing to bid against each other for his rights if Payton cannot make up his mind where he wants to go. My logic isn't circular at all. Very linear. |

Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton
Whaddya know - a new day, a BRAND NEW news cycle narrative on Sean Payton. This time (!) wait for it.... he's "definitely more likely than not" to return to Fox.
GASP!!! |
Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton
Let's not forget that Sean Payton said himself that a return to Fox was most likely before the interviews even started.
This from an interview over 18 days ago ... When asked about his odds of returning to the FOX studio in 2023 on a scale of one to ten, Payton responded “Seven,” with a straight face. So he’s more likely to stay in the studio than return to a sideline. |

Besides, isn't Mike and Sean essentially the same HC? If Dallas were even interested in firing their coach, Dan Quinn is next in line for that job. |

And then there's this on the Cowboys front. I believe that Dallas would have to clear it through the league that they have permission from the Saints before making any contact with Payton. This is what cost Miami a first round pick this year.

The New Orleans Saints are in such a deep hole that they desperately need Sean Payton to take a job this year. Let's just hope he doesn't take Jeff Ireland with him.
|
Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton
It seems no team wants Payton because of draft picks they would have give. He should come back to the Saints. Maybe that's why Loomis is keeping Allen and Carmichael.

Frank is a solid hire for the Panthers.
The NFC South just got a little bit tougher. |

With Reich off the market, I feel like there's a bit more impetus on Denver to land CSP.

Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton
Yup. It sounds like Payton doesn't like the way one of the Broncos' owners came across. Payton isn't taking any job that he doesn't absolutely love. He's got a gravy job that he really likes right now so he can afford to wait.
