I think we should put Alontae Taylor back on the edge. There is the argument that we have moved Taylor around too much but I think in his 2022 rookie year on the edge he was actually a good all around player. Then in 2023 we decided at the last minute to hand the job back to Adebo and force Taylor to the slot where he was uncomfortable. Then in 2024 Taylor had a full training camp in the slot and made some strides with run defense and pass rush from the slot, but just isn't suited to coverage in the slot, and suffered from being bounces around between the slot and edge due to injuries. I think Taylor's only chance to be a good all around player is in the slot and we should use him there.

Adebo’s contract may net us a high comp pick. We should try to make sure we dont flush that pick signing some $5 million backup. Wait until after the deadline or sign players who were cut.

I would have been happy if we acquired Joe Milton or Tanner McKee at a reasonable cost. I would be glad if we traded back in the draft. I am happy we didn't outbid the Giants for Paulson Adebo. Some Saints columnists have said they expect us to be quiet in free agency and I will be happy if that happens. Some have expected us to move on from certain older players like Hill and Jordan and I would be happy about that. If we trade Chris Olave for a decent 2nd or 3rd round pick I will be happy. If we decline Penning and Olave's 5th year options I will be happy about that. If we trade Carr, as one recent article suggested, I will be happy, though a little confused as selling cap space while cap poor is an odd strategy. What I will be happy with is cutting costs, fixing the cap, and acquiring cheap young talent and the financial resources to build around that nucleus in the future. What I will be unhappy with is going all-in to win-now with Derek Carr, which I feel is impossible and will only set us back.

Of course you do.

Adebo has recovered and is likely to return stronger than before. If the Saints had the money he would've been paid to stay.

Your post is confusing - you're saying Taylor should be on the edge, he isn't suited to slot but would be the best in the slot???

Nathan Shepherd signs one year extension with Saints.

I haven't seen any numbers but it should include a restructuring of 2015 freeing up more cap.

Re: Saints 2025 Off-Season Roster Moves

It appears Boyd may be our other NT...

From MSN:
At 6'2" and 320-Lbs., Boyd fits the physical prototype of a 3-4 nose tackle. His college tape, post-season collegiate performance, and little NFL action also shows a player who could be suited for that role.

Boyd has excellent upper body power and plays with terrific leverage. He's extremely hard to knock off point and even more difficult to knock off his feet. His core strength allows him to hold up well against double teams, while his good initial movement at the snap often gave him an immediate leverage advantage.

Boyd's shorter arms limited him as a 4-3 tackle. He's also shown some issues in read-and-react responsibilities, causing him to get sealed inside or slow in play recognition. Neither are nearly as big an issue for a nose tackle in a three-man front.

Nose tackle is pretty much a position of pure power and leverage. Boyd has both. He also has a high motor and surprising arsenal of pass rush moves. Most importantly, Boyd has the ability to withstand multiple blockers with the strength to stalemate and the agility to slip by them.

Fixed the typo. I want Taylor on the edge.

I dont believe Adebo has recovered until there is game tape and he is more effective than the lackluster performance we saw pre injury. Even if he is great in 2025 I dont trust him to stop sucking in even numbered years. Remember Michael Thomas made videos on his comeback trail too. They meant nothing.
