Yeah, I agree. Maybe he should do something on the football field first before cihiming in on the situation. Until then maybe he should keep his piehole shut. |

Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
Per multiple sources, the case against Graham’s position that he should be treated as a receiver for franchise tag purposes included testimony from coach Sean Payton.

Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
Ya'll are confusing the crap outta me.
The article states that Payton said he's a TE, NOT a WR. Right? |
Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
I don't care. Offer him more than the highest paid TE no matter what the ruling is. If he doesn't take it fine, let him play under the tag for whatever his position he is ruled to be and use the long term money to get Jordan and Hicks signed next year. That much less restructuring Loomis has to do next year

I'll stick up for Graham's right to try for as much money as he can get. But I don't believe the Saints should have an open check book with him. It's not that I don't think he deserves a huge payday, but the Saints offense has been based on having too many different options for a defense to account for. So I don't think it makes sense to pay one receiver 12 million + / year. |

From Sean Payton testified at Jimmy Graham hearing | ProFootballTalk
(Excerpt) "The specifics aren’t known, but the gist of the testimony was that Graham is a tight end, not a receiver. The consequence, if Payton’s testimony is accepted, will be $5.3 million less in 2014 earnings for Graham." |

Graham case included testimony from Bill Polian, Butch Davis | ProFootballTalk
"...Polian was an expert witness as to the position that Graham is a tight end for tag purposes; Davis testified on behalf of the position that Graham should be regarded as a receiver..." What this Shaggy?!? Butch Davis testified on behalf of Jimmy Graham?!? Butch Davis and Jimmy Graham are both Jimmy Sexton clients... What's funny about this is calling Butch Davis as a football expert; had it been a recruiting discussion and the going rate for a four star prospect - I'd be all ears... |
Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
Isn't that a conflict of interest when they share the same agent?

Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
From the articles I've read about the negotiations the only "game-changer" in the deal would be the designation being changed to WR; and that would only hype the Graham/NFLPA camps; and even if that happens, it's the Graham camp that has the pressure as they want to get the larger checks rolling in as soon as possible...
The Saints actually still have the advantage as they still have their money, and they hold Graham's rights; and unlike when Brees contract was being hammered out, their aren't the extenuating circumstances of the BountyGate Beatdown that had pretty much canceled the 2013 campaign so there was added pressure of getting Drew done throw Saints fanbase a bone... A couple of writers have alluded to the fact that Graham and his representation want to get this "marriage" done so he'll have the security he needs/desires; waiting another year is not what he want to go through or have the distractions/circus following him all season long... The designation is probably more important to the NFLPA in the bigger view as they want larger dues contributions from their members which I find ironic as at the end of the day, the player split is already set, well at least in theory... |
Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
Graham won't want to play under the tag as a WR either. He'll want a long term deal with guaranted money.
This whole tag, appeal, arbitrate process is just to establish the starting point for the negotiations for a new contract. There are only two points to start from using the tag 7 and a half million per year which too low and 12 and a half million which is too high. |

Arbitrator's ruling coming Thursday in Jimmy Graham's franchise-tag grievance - ESPN
Why does Triplett's name have to come second?!? Schefter is such a *****...we know who did the legwork and has more information about the Saints at his disposal... And by the way... "Either party can appeal Burbank's decision. But in the meantime, the winner will gain critical leverage in their long-term contract negotiations. The Saints and Graham have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement or else Graham can play under only a one-year deal this season." |

Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
like jimmy don/t get enough attention on the field I hope this don,t change his work ethic and humbleness. don't want to upset anyone but jimmy may stumble this year. not by an injury but by the negative attention it gives to his position. unlike if he was a center or guard. he was already harassed and assaulted the last third of the season and playoffs.

Re: Jimmy Graham Contract
Idea...Wide receivers are typically smaller, faster guys and tight ends are typically bigger, slower guys. So, if Graham want's to be classified and paid as a wide received, let him run like one. If he can outrun....say..... Brandin Cooks I say give him the money. If not, Jimmy, please shut the "f" up and play ball.

Saints haven’t reduced offer to Graham | ProFootballTalk
"The Saints haven’t, and won’t, use the ruling that Graham is a tight end for franchise tag purposes to alter a proposal that would make Graham the highest-paid tight end in NFL history, with a package worth $9.5 million per year." "...At $9.5 million per year with a considerable chunk of fully guaranteed money up front, Graham will have a hard time rejecting the offer and taking a year-to-year approach that would pay $7 million in 2014, $8.4 million in 2015, and quarterback money of $16 million or so in 2016..." "...That’s $30 million over three years, but with Graham carrying the injury risk each and every season. If the Saints fully guarantee an amount equal or greater to the first two years ($15.4 million) and offer a total package in the range of $30 million over the first three years, it’s a no-brainer that Graham will take the offer..." "Within 11 days, look for Graham and the Saints to finalize a long-term deal. " |

Until July 15, no reason to panic in Jimmy Graham contract negotiations | Jeff Duncan | NOLA.com
Jeff Duncan (Nola.com) - "...For better or worse, this is standard operating procedure for the parties involved in the Graham talks. Loomis rarely makes a deal before it's absolutely necessary. The last major contract I recall the Saints completing early was the Jahri Evans extension in 2010. He knows how to use leverage to his advantage and time is his ally in this instance. Each day Graham goes without collecting his payday and being ostracized from teammates as the season nears, the likelihood grows that he will cave and accept the Saints' standing multi-year offer of $9.5 million annually..." |
