As we are approaching 500k deaths in the US, I want to bring this back up and curse the IHME and cebm for poor data which misled people. For the people that seemed stuck on how the virus would only kill 60-80k people, I hope you now realize you were wrong. I said somewhere between 800k and 1.6 milion which looks like a pretty valid estimate at this point. I said I would bring this thread back up, and here I am. Early IFR estimates were subject to so much scientific bias, and people just sucked them up like they were fact.

I don’t trust any of the data reported about COVID. It’s been manipulated for political purposes too often. I honestly don’t think the true number of strictly COVID deaths in the country will ever by known (or at least publicly revealed).

It's the number one killer in America. Think about that for a minute! Or don't if you disagree and just don't care. That sounds harsh I know but it is the country we live in. Believe it or not Thousands of people are dying from it every day.

Fixed it for you. First of all I'm not one of those in the "hoax camp" whatsoever. Most of our personal acquaintances are connected to the medical field and I am fully aware of the seriousness of COVID-19. But, I know of three people personally who were terminally ill already that died after contracting COVID. One recovered completely but died shortly after from the cancer. He was among the numbers counted as a COVID death. On the other hand, I am aware of completely healthy individuals that have contracted the disease and passed away directly from the result.

I sure did. Didn't I? My bad! OK. Yes, I see a 2020 season happening where we get the short end of the stick but still have a strong enough team to make it to the playoffs. Back on topic.

I do agree with this, I think it works the other way as well though(people dying without having been tested and not being counted). It's a well known fact that NY was highly underreported and I'm sure it's happened in other places. So why the true number of deaths caused by it are probably a tad bit lower, I still say the true number of death actually caused by it are at the very least over 350k(probably higher). We'll be dealing with this for a while. The new variants scare the hell out of me. At first though you were getting a lot of bad science. They would take antibody studies by getting people from facebook ads or grocery stores and use that to determine the IFR. I've been in the science field for a while, and I've seen some of the worst science in my life in the last year. I said at the beginning 800k to 1`.6 million. The actual deaths may be a tad lower than that in the end but I still think we'll get close to that range. I just find it ridiculous that people were actually believing that only 60-80k were going to die, that's why I revived this thread. The best studies I've seen have put the IFR in the .7%-.9% range. IFR though is really a false category and is dependent on so many variables. For example, it's obvious that African Americans die(which is incredibly sad and unfortunate) at a much higher rate regardless of comorbidities. It'll probably all come back to how Ace2 receptors impact each race or groups of people. You changed the from to with, but even with the correction the from is probably still correct. I mean there is an existential question to this. Also vitamin D. For example, if a person has a bad heart and contracts covid and dies of heart failure... did they die of covid or heart disease? There are arguments to be made for both, and most people in the US have some sort of comorbidity so these statistics are very complex thing to actually say either "with or from". That person with a heart problem may have lived another 15 years. What I find scary is in a lot of the people that recover(even the younger people), there seem to be some lingering issues. What if these lingering issues lead to an early death? I guess to sum it up is that we are dealing with something serious, and a lot of people just kind of flicked the issue off like it was an annoying fly. I'd advise everyone to take a vitamin D3/K2 combo and NAC as I think both of these affect outcomes significantly.

I'm glad that they got the season finished, but the season was incredibly odd. I mean you had a couple of games where the team didn't have a QB or was down to their last QB. Records were definitely affected. It was hard to take this season seriously for me cause teams couldn't prepare like they normally could.

Well, on the bright side the poor people are dying at a higher rate so we save money caring for them long term until their death. Believe it or not there are plenty of politicians and people who feel this way. They may go to church but they aren't going to heaven!

Re: Do you see a 2020 season happening?

We've finally hit 800k deaths which puts it into the 800k-1.6 million range that I suggested at the beginning of this. I still think many more people are going to die and people need to get their vaccines and boosters. One of the biggest consequences of not getting vaccinated isn't a personal but it is just another chance for the virus to mutate. When the virus saturates the globe you are going to eventually get variants that get around the vaccine to some degree. The omicron variant is scary, though vaccines will still protect you from death and severe illness at the very least. The thing that is really scary though is if the omicron variant actually has it's own mutations and things branch out of it. The more and more different the spike protein becomes the more and more our antibodies will not be able to latch onto the virus and neutralize it. If the omicron variant has further mutations we can start to have some serious problems.
