Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
I've heard some people saying the Saints are scrambling to get under the cap. They've known about the cap reduction since last July. They also know all of their options. The only unknown is the final cap number which should be coming out today or tomorrow.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
There are going to be a ton of veterans out there who will fall to the secondary free agent market because of the lowered cap. It will be possible to plug several holes at a budget price with proven players ready to hit the field. There will be more one year contracts at a minimal rates than ever before.
On the other hand, the draft will be more of a crapshoot than ever this season with players having opted out, players with limited playing time due to shortened seasons, no combine, limited attendance pro days, extremely limited face-to-face contact, no scout access to school personnel (coaches, trainers, counselors, etc.), limited post-season games, etc. |

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
Agree Guido. Someone (I think it was saintsfan) said Loomis cuts 30 mill from the cap for breakfast. I said a while back that we would get through it with minimal casualties. It’s time people realize and appreciate that we have become one of the best franchises in the league and realize Loomis has a clue on what he’s doing. I don’t care how many SBs we didn’t win, I like many others remember well the laughing stock years of paper bags. At one of my lowest points I told my father I though “We won’t ever win a SB. It will always go to Niners or Giants or Dallas or Pitt. One of the big named teams. We get screwed too much”. That was even after showing some promise with the Finks era.
Well, obviously I was wrong and, even though it’s only been one SB, that’s one more than a heck of a lot of teams have won in that time. And the team has never played so poorly as to have had a top 10 pick and they always were in playoff hunt until season end. I’m excited for whatever happens next. Drew for a Year with a young drafted QB, great! Winston signed to a deal, great! Trade for a stud QB, great! Wait for a Darnold/GarrapLo/Trubiski/Rosen/Bridgewater/Fitzmagic to shake out, Great! I think SP and Loomis have a plan. And it’s likely better than the one Custard had! Geaux Saints! |

Fast forward to 12:30 or so. Kind of sounds like Alex is all but done in New Orleans. Best of luck in Free Agency.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
This is a logical way to lower the 2021 cap hits and push additional money forward. The cap is going to explode in a couple of years with the new broadcast contracts. Revenues may as much as double as compared to the last round. That means the cap can near double. Within a few years the annual cap can easily reach $350 million.
