Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
I don't think they should use next years money to sign a vet this year.
With the roster cuts this year it would have to be a perfect set of events for this team to compete for a superbowl. I don't think the depth is there too challenge, it would take this draft and UDFA haul to be better than 2017s. So why waste future resources that are going to be needed next years to sign the FA we have coming up, especially with only 35 players under contract for next season as it is and by the time the new draftees have been signed they'll have had to redo or resign a player anyway. I think its a decent team on paper with many holes, especially in depth which will effect the rotation. The strength of this team over the past 4 years has been the stout D-Line that has allowed the secondary to be aggresive and able to often play in nickel and let CGJ,Williams and whoever has been the SS to hunt. The depth on the line has taken a massive hit with Tuttle and Roach now expected to move from DT 4/5 to 2/3, add the loss of Jackrabbit who was locking down corners and expecting a talented but 3rd round CB to do that job or pay money they don't have to sign a aging veteran seems a waste. Covid hitting when it did has obviously blew up the plan they had to deal with the ring chasing but it has really hurt this teams ability to get a full roster than can challenge for me. Im not expecting a great season at all and would not be shocked if they pick top 10/12 next year, especially if they get the injuries they have over the past few years. Not too worried though as there are some good young players on the roster and if they can sort the cap and draft well the next two seasons i think they'll be in a great place to push on long term. I think both the trade deadline this year and the next offseason could be very interesting as i can see a big trade and possibly a big cut coming, especially if Turner and Adebo shine early. If they don't get joy with Lattimore agent or he is inconsistent and the Saints out of the picture early i could see him being traded at the deadline . Same next summer with Cam if Werner works out,22.6ml is a massive cap hit especially when a June 1st cut/trade saves 14ml,same with Peat and June 1st trade(trade only no cut) means only 4ml dead money and 10ml saving. Let the young kids play and see what you have in Trautman,Calloway,Adebo,Turner,Werner etc |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!
