lewis has been in the NFL a bit longer and has been where robinson is now. first two years fans were screaming bust. now he is a solid gamble that his play last year was a start of better things to come. i hold out hope for robinson still. he just was not ready to become the number two. |

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday
Jenkins wasn't swatting flies, he was trying to figure out where J Patrick was so he could do Patrick's job plus figure out where he himself should be in Spags' scheme if Spags had actually had a scheme. Last year is a bad year to try to use as an indicator of the quality of player out there on the field as was the year before that. Here's to hoping we don't have to say that about this coming year.

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday
If things work out for Robinson over the next year or two i can see him as the replacement for Greer at the number one position if he can stay healthy. thats the big question mark with all CB. I have not given up on Pat one bit. i think he needs more time
Now the NFC is loaded with tall WR correct? That's main idea of signing players like Lewis is to deal with taller and more physical wr one on one. that is were the signing of Lewis comes into play. Now adding Nnamdi after adding Lewis has me perplexed. Thats why i am not all that crazy about the idea. But heck if you can do a cap friendly deal with a player like this you have to do it. If Robinson keeps improving and stepping up and Lewis continues to do the same how in the world does the safeties job become easier? Allowing them to be freely used with over concern about helping a CB. I know the DC will be sleeping much easier at night. The simple fact is the defensive unit as a whole last year was to busy trying to do cover for each other. Its a trickle down or up, depending on how you look at effect. LB were covering for the DL CB were covering for the LB S were covering for the CB So with the addition of solid man CB. One of the support groups can be removed from the equation. We hope. Now S would be the ones covering for the LB as well as The DL So finger crossed and hope the front 7 improves Because it all starts up front. Thats why the dome patrol was so good. every player was able to do their job with little help from the others. the front 3 (unsung hero's IMO) freed up the LB Lb freed up the secondary Thats why i keep waiting for the front 7 to be addressed with solid upcoming 34 players that are pretty much low risk signings like Lewis. Adding these type players only makes the rest of the defense work better as a group. The last few years we were a bend do not break defense that reacted to the offenses. We need to be that defense that makes offenses react to us. You can win super bowls with a bend do not break defense surrendering FG all day long with a healthy Drew at the helm of the Offense. That is for the needs thread OT |
If Saints sign Nnamdi
If we signed Nnamdi couldn't we trade PRob?

I'd rather that, than to pay 40 million dollars for some "young and hungry" player who has proven nothing. Remember Jason David? |

That can't be pinned on just the safeties. |
Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday
i agree were i can see the need today i still hold out hope for some of the talent we have already on the team.
lets see how the secondary adapts as a whole now. i still fear the front 7 needs it more than anything. |

Was Nnamdi's visit bogus?
Okay, so I just read over at canalstreetchronicles that Nnamdi's so-called "visit" with the Saints was nothing more than a lunch date with Rob Ryan.
NFL Free Agency 2013: Nnamdi Asomugha Saints Visit Nothing Serious? - Canal Street Chronicles I'm thinking 'WTF'? What is going on here? Asomugha is one of the most sought-after and high-profile free agents and he doesn't even meet with Sean Payton? Or Mickey Loomis? Thoughts? |
Re: Was Nnamdi's visit bogus?
Three words.
BUDGET BUDGET BUDGET |
Re: Was Nnamdi's visit bogus?
Those three words have nothing to do with the question. They can interview him, and if he asks for too much money, then the team can say no. The question is whatever happened to the interview? My guess is that Rob Ryan conducted it himself to get a gauge on where Nnamdi stands. If he's truly interested then I'm sure we'll see a formal interview shortly.

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday
New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis said Monday morning that both sides "hit it off" during free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's visit this past weekend in New Orleans.
Loomis also said he and Coach Sean Payton met with Asomugha in New Orleans before the pair headed to the league owners meetings at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, which officially began Monday morning. The Saints' general manager wouldn't give any sort of specifics on a possible contract offer from the Saints to Asomugha, but Loomis said the team is waiting on Asomugha to make a decision on where he wants to play next season. Loomis said he feels like Asomugha, 32, can still play at an elite level despite the way Asomugha's tenure in Philadelphia ended. Asomugha became one of the NFL's elite cover cornerbacks while in Oakland where he played under current Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. "We're always looking for good players to improve our team and we think Nnamdi would be a great fit for our defense and our team," Loomis said. Loomis also confirmed the obvious that the Saints were in the market for a cornerback like Asomugha even though the Saints just signed former Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis to five-year contract worth a maximum of $26.3 million. Lewis' 2013 salary-cap figure is manageable enough (about $2.2 million) where the Saints feel like they can make a run at Asomugha. Asomugha's trip to New Orleans was his second free-agent visit since the Eagles released him last week after signing him to a five-year, $60 million contract in 2011. Asomugha made his first visit with the 49ers, but left San Francisco without a contract. It's possible Asomugha could be making other visits before making a decision. Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson were the primary starters for the Saints at cornerback last season, and the results weren't positive. The Saints finished 31st in the league in pass defense, 31st in points allowed and surrendered the most total yards in a single season in NFL history. I can understand you are just anxious and wanting some action to "POP OFF" *Calm down, Day-Day* in my best Ice cube voice.... Asomugha is making his decision, much like Jake Long did. Even if Asomugha chooses San Fran its not the end of the world. We now know the type of corner Rob, and the Saints envision for this D, because of the people they have targeted thus far. 6-0ft or better, not afraid to come in and support the run and excels in man to man situations. |

David Amerson from NC State would be a nice pick at 6-1 and 205 with a 4.44 40 time, but unfortunately the Saints would need a 2nd rounder to get him. Quote:

re: Nnamdi Asomugha (All in one)
Sign Nnamdi, put together a trade in order to get Saffold from the Rams (im thinking something that may be involving Ivory) and either go with best defensive player available in the draft or trade the 15th pick down in order to gain more picks for depth

re: Nnamdi Asomugha (All in one)
Asomuhga IMHO would be a good get. I could see trading a CB after we see if Nnamdi still has it.

re: Nnamdi Asomugha (All in one)
Just found this on NFL.com. Posting from my smart phone, so...
Chris Wesseling Published: March 18, 2013 at 3:35 PM We knew that free agent Nnamdi Asomugha was due to meet with former Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in New Orleans on Sunday. What we didn't know was that general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton would join the welcoming party before jetting off to the NFL meetings in Phoenix. Loomis told the Times-Picayune Monday morning that both sides "hit it off" during Asomugha's free-agent visit. Loomis didn't reveal any specifics on contract talks, but maintains that Asomugha can still play at an elite level despite his disappointing two-year stint in Philadelphia. "We're always looking for good players to improve our team," said Loomis, "and we think Nnamdi would be a great fit for our defense and our team." Although the visit was a positive one, no signing appears to be imminent. The Saints are waiting on Asomugha to decide where he wants to play. The primary competition could come from the San Francisco 49ers, who are still believed to be a "strong possibility" after hosting Asomugha last week. The cornerback was born in Louisiana, but spent his college career and his first eight NFL seasons in the Bay Area. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...nts-hit-it-off |
