My dad (R.I.P) would be the first person to tell you that Bobby was very mediocre but decent enough to get that 1st chip in New Orleans. The defense was that good.

But yeah, Hebert should understand that the ultimate goal at every position is to improve. DCarr is an upgrade over Dalton.

I remember when Bum had to put Bobby in a game without warning. On his first pass as an NFL QB missed a wide open (I can't remember who) that would have been a TD. After the game "admitting to the press he Wasn't Ready" pretty much summed up his career.

Is Carr shopping for houses in Metairie yet via someone’s real estate agent sister?

Like he would live in Metairie. We need some real estate agents on the North Shore.

I like to Bobby when he was playing for the New Orleans Saints. I think he's a traitor who went to Atlanta and an incoherent drunk. Surely, we could find somebody more intelligent and entertaining.

I’ve got a nice place in the Garden District 13.5 Mil I would let him have and wouldn’t use up much of the signing bonus.

The JETS have money to spend. Not saying DCarr will end up there but they will set the bar HIGH on offers from other teams.

It’s an enticing landing spot for him. It’s a big market, lots of weapons on offense, and a great defense. If we don’t land Carr or Jimmy G, we need to be smart and not make stupid decisions to faux compete.

How long did it take Buffalo to land Allen? We may be the new Buffalo Bills before the Bills of today.

Yeah all we need to do to liquidate $95 million cap is to double down on every bad or risky contract on our roster and make all those players untouchable for years with giant future cap hits that will force us to offer them extensions again next year even if their play merits cuts. Have you need the film Speed? Mickey Loomis’ cap management philosophy is that bus. If we go below 55 million over the next league years cap by opening day of the current year we explode. So the accelerator is locked to the floor, the steering wheel is locked straight ahead, and we just keep going until we hit a brick wall.

Dalton had Carr’s career average qb rating this year. Carr had a lower qb rating. He may not even prove an upgrade. But even if he did, we are going to lose players this offseason and others are getting older. We dont have a top coach. We arent contenders for a ring. Car wont get us one. To get Carr we will have to restructure Taysom Hill and backload Carrs contract in ways that Carr + Hill will probably have a bigger combined cap number than Maholmes in 2025. That is not a glorius path to a dynasty. That is how we become the Washington Generals of the NFC South.

22 years. Kelly's last year was 1996. Allen's first was 2018.

I guess last year we should have just offered DeShaun Watson $60 million a year fully guaranteed. Its just money. He would have been an upgrade. The solution is infinite money for infinitesimal upgrades?

To me, two years is not some ridiculous QB carousel. I don't think the teams that have great QBs and won rings lately got there by being so impatient that after two years they broke the bank and tied themselves down long term to get an okay QB who would technically be an upgrade. They waited to get someone who could be great while still preserving the resourced to protect them and give them tools to succeed. Or they found a way to get a good but not great QB at a great cheap price so they could stack their defense and oline.

If we don't want to end up like the Bills between Kelly and Allen, perhaps we should not sign the modern equivalent of Drew Bledsoe, a QB with a 9 year history being pretty good but not great who would perhaps be an upgrade but not enough of one, when we don't have a good enough team to win it all with just a small upgrade at a big cost.

Like what the Saints almost tried to give the serial predator up in Cleveland ?

Derek is a middle of the pack NFL QB.

Saints would be fools to over pay for his services.

In principal yes … 30-35 million seems to be the number for a top 15 QB.

The pursuit for Watson was evidence that the front office was trying to cleanup the QB wasteland that Sean Payton left the team in after his departure. No, I was not a Watson fan but feel strongly that you cannot compete in the modern day NFL without above average QB play. Saints were not the only team that held their nose and step into the fray, they were all in the same living QB purgatory.

If we don’t land Carr Saints prospects for landing a QB thru the draft is a very long shot/high risk play at best considering where we fall in the draft. Carr can be a bridge QB for the next 4 years which give us time to draft QB’s with the potential to be our future starting QB.

Moving money forward on exiting contracts does not cost the team 1 penny more, it’s like interest free money going forward knowing your future cash flow will cover and exceed your operating cost.

I suspect we will start seeing significant roaster turn and churn over the next 3 years, younger and cheaper throughout the roster.

Spend it this year or over the next 2 years you basically end up spending the same amount regardless how it’s accounted for.

Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.

Someone who understands cost accounting principles as it applies to the NFL cap. Thank you, WW!

Solid reasoning if you're in SB/playoff contention. Thereby lies the challenge and conundrum. Saints are nowhere close. So if you're going to suck anyway, spending future cap dollars ( deficit spending for those in Rio Linda) makes little sense. Go young and cut bait, develop talent, and clean up the cap.

With our defense, weapons at WR, and an offensive line that has the potential to be stellar, I believe we ARE in playoff AND Super Bowl contention with the right addition at QB (Carr would be a great fit) and a few pieces through free agency and the draft. The first step, the NFC South title, is well within reach as is.

I think we're contenders to be honest. Let's have a look at some of the QB's that were in the playoffs:

Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa got them there. They lost by 3 points to the Bills with Skylar Thompson at QB in the Wild Card round.

Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith

New York Giants: Daniel Jones

Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins

Baltimore Ravens: Tyler Huntley. One stupid fumble away from winning in the playoffs.

San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy

None of these guys are world beaters. 49ers almost went all the way with a 3rd stringer. It's all about health and can you go on a run.

We need to build the interior of this offensive line, grab Carr, and beef up at running back. Moves on the defensive side of the ball would be a nice cherry on top but I don't even think we have to if we can upgrade offensively.

Mayfield would be my 2nd choice behind Carr. Mayfield is a tough guy. I really don't want to draft a qb. in the 1st or 2nd round at least not this season. I get one with a 3rd or 4th and see how he develops.
