I'd like to try and get Derek Carr
 

His Contract is friendly. He has a strong arm. He is pretty mobile. He will only be 30 in March. I think he would really thrive in our system. The more I'm sitting here thinking about it the more I'm really liking it.

There are rumors The Texans are wanting to trade Carr for Watson and some picks. Raiders fans don't think the Texans will ship Watson to an AFC team.

Only problem for us is we have nothing to really offer in picks.

At least one QB is going to lose this simulated game of musical chairs. That's when we might want to pounce and pick them up at their cheapest. This morning I was thinking if the Bears do away with Trubisky he could possibly be had for basically nothing. Though Carr I'd definitely want over Trubisky.

It's been reported that the Raiders would want 2 firsts for D Carr in a trade. I like Carr as a player but not at that compensation.

That's just too much.

I don't think the Saints will be active players in this one.

iirc, Winston’s wonderlic score was a 27, Mr Brees? 28. That presupposes you place any value in that testing..., but that testing is something all NFL players are subjected to, and it places both Winston and Mr. Brees on pretty much the same level intellectually.

I’ve never thought Eli Manning was the sharpest tack in the tool shed..., but there he is at 39! Bottom line, if you feel Winston is lacking in any intellectual manner, then Mr. Brees is right there with him.

No way I would trade that much for Carr. They are trying to sell high based off his career year but I’d take my chances with Winston versus give up two 1st rd picks.

This year we will draft to fill a lot of needs and might even move back a time or two to get more draft picks. I don't see us trading up until we have put the roster back in tact to where we have been since '17.

Sell high and buy cheap does not include QB. "whoever" is left over out there will be a back up at most.

Winston, Trubisky :rolleyes:, Brisette, Fig Newton, Dalton, Colt McKoy or Tyrod Taylor.

Slim pickens for a cap strapped team. I'd take the guy who has sat, watched and hopefully studied with a soon to be Hall of Fame QB & Coach Sean Payton over any of these other guys.

I'd like to see Brees get that rotator cuff repaired and give it another go with fans in the stands and a full season without a fluke injury. Now that he's carrying only a league minimum salary he'll be a less expensive option than anyone else out there ... by far.

If he knew for a fact he was going to retire he would have already announced that fact. That leads me to believe he's doing exactly what he said and seriously considering all options, just as he has done each of the past four off-seasons. He very well may end up deciding to retire, but with an extremely team friendly contract already in place for the 2021 season the opportunity to return remains very plausible.

Wonderlic does not put them on the same level intellectually, it puts them on the same level cognitively. Wonderlic in short is logic vs emotion and the reason that it is extremely difficult to correlate to intellect is because bad logic is still logic.

The two are related and intertwined but intellect requires objectivity, cognitive function doesn't. A Wonderlic has math, an IQ test has numbers and favors the ability to identify patterns.

I saw a video yesterday Guido that may have an answer on this. It seemed to indicate that if he retires before a certain date (sometime in June if I remember correctly) then about 11 million in cap hit comes into play. If it is after that date, then it doesn’t. So, he could have made his mind up but can’t say so yet without putting a dent in the Saint’s financial situation.

June 1st is the date that remaining guarantees are carried into the following years. Yes, the date is important, but I believe just announcing the decision to retire doesn't trigger anything. What is important is when the papers are officially sent to the league office. He can announce he plans to retire today, but it doesn't become official until those papers arrive.

Maybe so. I’m not saying I’m correct, but the vid I watched seemed to indicate it did matter. In fact one guy mentioned Godell coming down on the Saints for violating the “spirit of the law” for doing this if Brees does in fact know he is retiring. Again, I wouldn’t bet money on it though.

I listened to the interview. They both said that it has been based upon the date the paperwork is delivered. That has always been my understanding for trades or cuts specifically, but a retirement would fall under the exact same guidelines. What they appeared to be saying is that IF there was a way to screw the Saints over, Goodell would. This is a commonly used rule so I don't think there would be an issue. That said, I'm still not counting Brees as retired until he makes an announcement and I don't think he's made any announcement yet because he hasn't made that decision.

Deal LOL. Last time I was at Pats (3 plus yea are) there was a Bachelorette party in the courtyard corner. I was meeting up with my Ca friend Matt to party up. We shared a table with them until a rat scurried underfoot and they noticed them running on the vine covered walls. Almost caused a riot ! Winner gets a round Next time we can all be at Pats.

Derek Carr would be a good stop Gap if he didn't throw so dang many interceptions. The fact that they are benching him speaks volumes. I don't think we have the right offensive coordinator to get the most from him. Hopefully, that's going to change during the off season.

They are benching him to make sure he doesn't get injured in the final two games. If he was to get injured they'd have to pay the injury guarantee and wouldn't be able to trade him for any value.
