Trevor Siemian

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Trevor has played great, and could be a future to build around. He, so far, has played better than Winston. The biggest issue Trevor has is at WR/TE. We have the worst average separation by pass catchers in the league ...

We have the worst average separation by pass catchers in the league and are 5th in dropped passes. Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Manning wouldn't have much success with our WR/TEs.

Trevor threw for 300 2 TDs against one of the best Defenses with ZERO help around him.

The one knock on Trevor... piss poor clock management, that can be improved.

But IMO it’s kinda like switching tires on a car that has no brakes and a bad transmission. The ride ain’t gonna be any smoother.
You are assuming the replaced tires could hold air. The success of WR's is in part dependent upon whom is attempting to get them the ball. I have little doubt we wouldn't be complaining about the WR's if Brees was still delivering the ball. I'm seeing receivers getting open but not having the ball get to them accurately or in a timely manner. Any success seems to be coming when the opposition is in a prevent mode.

You are clearly watching a different game than me. I will not be surprised to see a change at QB this coming week. What is it with the sudden rash of dropped balls? I shared earlier that I felt the low velocity ball that Siemian throws has to affect the receiver's timing. They are expecting the ball to be in the hands when its arrival is actually a tad later than expected.

Or maybe the WR's just suck?

Football_reference.com shows the Saints as having 17 total drops on the season. Kamara leads the team with five drops. (Does that mean Kamara sucks?) Trautman is second with four. Tre'Quan has two drops and nobody else has more than one. This is current through week 10.

I've seen more in the past three weeks with Siemian delivering the ball than in the previous six weeks on the season.

Well considering that Kamara is around 70% of our total offense, I can't really blame him for having a few more drops.

What's shocking is that Trautman is barely 5 or 10% of our offense and still has nearly as many drops as Kamara does.

I think those stats are incorrect, Kenny Stills has 2 drops in the past 2 weeks alone.

I remember one, which is what the stats show. Just because a player gets hands on a ball doesn't make it catchable. One definition has a drops as "incomplete passes where the receiver SHOULD have caught the pass with ORDINARY effort." Trautman's drops are perfect examples.

Not sure what your point is. That it’s Simeon’s fault? I doubt Brees would be fairing any better with these WRs and TEs. The passing production hasn’t wavered too much between Winston and Simeon. There are plays here and there made but it’s mostly sucked forcing the offense to mostly rely on the RBs and QB scrambling (which got Winston hurt). Hill’s tires have no more air or tread than Simeon’s do. At least not enough to make a difference IMO.

Oh, come on. I have no doubt Brees would be doing far, far better with these same WR's and TE's. Winston was also leading the league in TD per pass rate when he got injured at 8.7% while Siemian is currently at 4.8%. Brady is second to Winston thus far at 7.2%.

It's like the receiver is anticipating the ball to already be there when it hasn't yet arrived.
Don't get the criticism for a weak-arm as I find Taysom had more heat than Jameis; now, does Taysom's placement and reads need work? Absolutely.

But that would come with more snaps, experience...
