The only thing that could cause a hiccup in the massive growth worldwide would be another pandemic or a world war. In either case the profitability of the NFL would have little importance in comparison. |

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread
It seems quite a few people do not understand how these restructures work. The players are not negatively affected by these restructures. If anything they receive salary that would have been paid weekly throughout the season in a lump sum immediately upon restructure into the signing bonus. They can start collecting interest on it now instead of later.

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread
Only twice in the history of the cap has it gone down and that was during the height of the pandemic (2021) and the year after the league was uncapped in 2010 (CBA dispute). The year following the 2021 season the cap more than doubled the highest jump in the history of the cap increasing by almost $26 million in a single year (2022). For a comparison, that single year increase was only $7 million less than the entire cap in 1994 ($34.6M).
This is what I have been trying to stress for years around here. Just based upon the current deals the cap will grow to over $300 million before the end of this decade. Only something catastrophic can affect the growth. |

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Saints are "closing in on a multiyear contract extension" with DE Tanoh Kpassagnon.
Kpassagnon signed with the Saints two years ago and is set to become a free agent in the spring. He has six sacks and as many TFLs in 23 appearances with the team. The Saints have numerous defensive linemen with expiring contracts this offseason. Bringing back Kpassagnon gives them some flexibility with who the are forced to let walk. |

When they leave the roster, all that money comes due for that league year or split 50/50 with the next league year. So if humans did not age, it would be a great strategy. But when you are one of the oldest NFL rosters and you are talking about restructuring contracts to push money far out into the future for your oldest players, and you start every league year the most over the cap in the league, it becomes a big problem. I am not confident that Andrus Peat, Taysom Hill, Tyrann Mathieu, or even Cameron Jordan or Demario Davis will be productive players in their 40's or especially 50's. If we wanted to blow up the cap, it would have been smarter to do it during the latter years of Drew's prime to add high dollar free agent oline depth, TE, corners, etc. But Loomis did not need rings to keep his job, he just needed 7-10 or 9-7 or whatever, so we didn't. Now we are blowing up the cap to win 7, 8, 9 games because Loomis does not care about rings, he cares about minimum standards for job security.
