That's the point that many are totally missing. Payton makes the decision, not the Saints. Payton doesn't go to who offers the Saints the best deal, he goes to who offers HIM the best deal.

In fact, trading away draft capital would make the destination less attractive to Payton who would surely be expecting to play a major role in the draft process wherever he lands.
We own his rights and don't have to trade him anywhere. They're intially bidding to Payton, but they're also bidding to the Saints. You are mistaken if you think Payton holds all the cards. Payton may make the initial decision, but it will all boil down to what the two teams can agree two. We're not obligated to settle for anything and nor should we.
