The Chargers had ZERO offense! Their O.C. is a some guy named Joe Lombardi!

In the 2nd half Herbert threw for just 134 yards and zero touchdowns, while Ekeler didn't gain a single yard on the ground in the final two quarters. The offense scored just three points in the second half compared to the 27 they scored in the first half. Just look at their drive charts after halftime:

7 plays, 37 yards, punt (2:32)
7 plays, 45 yards, field goal (2:13)
14 plays, 58 yards, missed field goal (6:57)
3 plays, 5 yards, punt (2:16)

Things should be heating up!

I hope a new team announces Payton before superbowl. I can't start my offseason dive until I know what we're working with!!

So the Chargers 🔌 could only muster up 3 points second half? Kicking fgs instead of going for it.

Offense went conservative & the defense couldn’t make a stop.

Playing “safe” gets you beat at this level.

Not sure if Staley survives.

This sounds like the perfect haul to me.

But then there is this fact.

I want Sean Payton to be successful with the Chargers. If he can agree with ownership about investing in the team like Gayle Benson has done then he will have landed in a sweet spot.

Re: Cards, Texans permitted to interview Sean Payton

Here's Sean Payton spelling it out himself. There's not going to be any bidding. There's not going to be a high 1st round pick. There's not going to be multiple 1st round picks.

Sean Payton says that if he takes a head-coaching job, the team that hires him will have to give the Saints a mid-to-late first-round draft pick.

Payton told Colin Cowherd he and Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis have come to an understanding that that’s what his new team will give the Saints, if Payton takes a head-coaching job.

“Mickey Loomis and I have talked already about it. I think ultimately the compensation for the Saints will be a mid or later first-round pick,” Payton said.

Payton plans to speak with the owners of the Panthers, Cardinals, Broncos and Texans this week. Loomis has indicated that the Saints are making sure any team that talks to Payton is well aware of the compensation the Saints will expect, and that all teams talking to Payton have accepted that compensating the Saints is part of the deal.

LOL. Guido you want to badly to be right...

If Loomis gives SP away for a single late first-rounder, we can all get used to being a bad team for a long time.

Once again, I would LOVE for it to be anything better, but logic stands that the Saints have little to no leverage to demand more. All I've done is attempt to temper what appears to be unrealistic expectations by some.

As for being a bad team for a long time, a first rounder plus any other picks puts us ahead of the curve. We got two first round players last year and we should get another this year. If we were going to be as bad as you surmise an additional 1st wouldn't make much of a difference one way or another. To think otherwise is just being overly pessimistic.
