As someone else pointed out here finding quality offensive line depth isn't as easy as it is made out to be. I'm not saying it wouldn't be great. What I am saying is that they don't just grow on trees.

Here's what we have now. We usually keep nine on the 53 man roster and a couple on the practice squad.

LT70Penning, Trevor 22/167Young, Landon 21/666Kidd, Lewis CF22
LG75Peat, Andrus 15/174HURST, JAMES CC/Bal62Kraemer, Tommy U/Det
C78McCoy, Erik 19/273GARCIA, MAX U/Arz65Pihlstrom, Alex CF23
RG51Ruiz, Cesar 20/164Saldiveri, Nick 23/476Throckmorton, Calvin CF2061Filiaga, Chuck W/GB
RT71Ramczyk, Ryan 17/172Norton, Storm U/LAC68Evans II, Mark CF23
Then we traded for or drafted the wrong players.
Davenport
Tommy Stevens
Adam Trautman
Zach Baun
Ian Book

Baun actually looked good this past weekend. He made some splash plays.

That said, why would we think any offensive lineman drafted instead of any of those players would eventually turn out any better than what we currently have to work with this camp? Once again, it all comes down to health. There isn't a team in the league with enough quality depth to not struggle with losing two or three starting offensive linemen. Not even the mighty "Feagles".

It seems there are only so many humans alive that have the ability and desire to be a great offensive lineman. I would love it if we had a full compliment of nine of them to start the season. But, like you, I have no idea how to go about that.

Out of that list, Davenport is the one hurts the most since he cost two number ones in essence.

Doesn't hurt anymore. Water under the bridge. Woulda', coulda', shoulda' has no impact on anything moving forward.

It's the very same argument. Historically, no player other than a very few handful are worth two number ones in a move up situation in the draft. Yes, Mahomes is one of those rare exceptions. Ingram's career was good, but still not worth two ones, arguably. I expect us to witness this very same argument play out with the former QB from Bama.

Then again, you have numerous number ones that have been selected that were busts on a single pick. It all comes back around to doing what you think as management is the best move at the time. Nobody knows how it's going to turn out in the long run and by then it no longer matters.

Re: The 2023 JeanPierre Saints Roster Depth Chart Thread

I thought that the Davenport was a good trade and believed he would earn his draft status. But we didn't see his injuries mounting up and shutting down a promising career. A promising QB may be worth two first round picks but rarely has it worked out for us. MI was good but not great. Which, is what I want from two first round draft picks.
