I agree Shockey is a good TE, but if the same situation occurs in 2008...I don't see the big change. I say draft a TE through the draft. Enough of the walking wounded!!!! How many can the Saints afford (Vilma, Morgan, MM, Duece, Bush, Grant, Glenn, Meachem, etc.)? |

I don't recall anyone calling Shockey a cancer. He does have a big mouth and says some stupid things sometimes and is very volatile. Me personally, I think that the Saints are fine at TE. Mark Campbell will be back so the run game should improve. Billy Miller is a good blocking TE also and made some good receptions last year. Eric Johnson is a good receiving TE though he didn't play exceptionally well last year I think that he'll do fine this year. I have no idea what Buck Ortega and Ronnie Ghent are like as players but I'm okay with the current TE's on the team. |

Re: shockey to saints?
I took this from the first page of this thread... but this is not the first time I've read such comments.
I cannot think of any reason why this wouldn't be a great deal for the Saints. With Brees at the helm, and believe me, this is his ship, you won't have a QB that's pushed around like you did in New York. It would be nice to have a legitimate receiving threat at the TE position, Eric Johnson was ok, didn't have a great year as I had hoped, and there weren't any other teams beating down his door this offseason. And a little attitude outside of Will Smith wouldn't hurt either. If this was Strahan in his prime, instead of Shockey, not a one of you would strong arm this trade. Yet he's pulled similar stunts, so why is he exempt? |
The waiting drove me mad....

Re: shockey to saints?
Shockey gets a bad rep because he opens his yap, and he ain't got no yap filter.

Re: shockey to saints?
Whoa now. Strahan is one of the best DE's to play the game. Shockey is just a good TE. In fact, I think that Strahan is still better at DE than Shockey is at TE right now.
I know what you're getting at but Strahan was never as obnoxious (emphasis on noxious) as Shockey is. |

Re: shockey to saints?
Shockey wants the ball. All the players do. But when he was not getting it he would sulk and yell. It maybe NY or it maybe him. That for the FO to figure out. If they make the move then the saints a scary. Well if he can avoid the injury bug.

Re: shockey to saints?
All I can say is be careful what you wish for? Brees may be able to get into his face...but he will have no way of retrieving the ball that he just let go towards the sideline as Shockey cuts toward the post.
I'm not sure where I saw this, so I could be wrong, but I believe that Shockey can count up to his wonderlic score without taking his shoes off. Speaking of shoes...with a wonderlic score like his, he may be losing a lot of money on Bourbon St. until he catches on and says, "On my feet." |
Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!

SHOCKEY TO SAINTS STILL SIMMERING?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 10, 2008, 9:02 a.m. Last month, there were rumors and reports of discussions between the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants regarding a possible trade that would send tight end Jeremy Shockey from Broadway to the Bayou. As we’d last heard it, the Giants wanted a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper, and the Saints declined. But now renewed talk of a possible trade is emerging, from an unlikely source. Several readers have pointed out to us that WWE announcer Jim Ross has posted the following entry on his blog: “Reggie Bush was also at [WrestleMania] 24 and was hanging around Snoop Dogg’s trailer most of the afternoon on Sunday. My sources tell me that the New York Giants are going to trade outstanding TE Jeremy Shockey to Bush’s Saints, prior to the NFL draft. Shockey is an Oklahoma kid from Ada who told me last week he was looking forward to playing for the Saints.” Shockey has been the subject of extensive speculation, given that he played no role in the team’s stunning postseason run. Some believe that Eli Manning never would have become a championship-caliber quarterback is Shockey had not been injured.. |
