i was stressing the point you made. first and for most
affordable depth is key |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Okay, so why does it seem like it's been so much easier for us to spot the hidden talent on the offensive side? Is it our scouting or is it our coaching, or lack thereof? Over the years we've picked up some bigger names like Franklin and Ellis and they pretty much come to little. If our track record doesn't improve, does it really matter who we pick up?

As far as D goes, I think we have the talent but not the right coaching for the talents they possess. We have gone through now 4 defensive coaches since 2006 and force feeding them to adapting to the coaches style of D instead of using their strenghts. Having said that, I think we could use upgrades at several positions but we can use some of the guys we have if they work hard and if Ryan can teach them in ways thats they can be at their best:bng: |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
A big part of that seeming disparity between the offense and defense when it comes to getting the most out of rookies and FAs has probably a lot to do with the lack of continuity on the staff the Saints have had on the defensive side.
|
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Do you think Sean's ready to focus on the D after having to watch our amazingly historic defense on tv last year?
|
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Several of you have keyed on the problems being coaching and others on talent...
The truth is its been both our scouting department and defensive coaches together have failed miserably in identifying and developing talent... ...and that's where Coach Payton really needs to address and cement his place as an elite coach besides just his salary indicating same... |

( i know a re post)
Affordable FA driven list William Beatty OT NYG Terrance Knighton NT Jags Brandon Myers TE OAK Brad Jones ILB GB James Ihedigbo S/ST BAL Leodis McKelvin CB Bills - i want to see him come in at least Priority #1 OT OT is the issue this off season and will drive everything in FA and/or the draft. William Beatty OT NYG will be cheaper to sign than Bushrod IMO. - can play both RT and LT -Draft in round 1 or 3 LOT/ROT if one falls to you -Both players should be about the same as Bushrod will be asking. -i believe you have solved the OT position for the next 3 to 4 years. imo that would be the best cap move plus would aid in the running game and give Ingram a fighting chance to prove his worth as a #1 pick in this offense Priority #2 - True 34 NT run stopper for depth Terrance Knighton NT Jags - talked at length already Prioity #3 , Insant Impact Brad Jones ILB GB Brandon Myers TE OAK James Ihedigbo S/ST BAL Signing any of these players would free up the draft greatly and would have the biggest bang for the buc, |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
i wonder why the saints are not asking these players to stop in workout
Aaron Curry - 34 ILB Selected by: Seattle Seahawks Traded to Oakland Round: 1 (4) lmao overhyped "can't miss" star mistake was putting him at OLB knee soreness ???? Sergio Kindle - rush linebacker in a 3-4 Round: 2 (43rd overall) labeled as one of the most versatile hybrid defenders lmao overhyped and yet i have to admit i fell for it too bad knee, which required four surgeries by the time he entered the draft fell down the stairs, fracturing his skull DUI arrest back in December of 2010 why not kick some tires and lite some fires Jeff Faine | Center how about an old time fav |

But it's either Bushrod or Bust; and then we'll definitely have to lean on the Draft... NT is a definite must-add... Hope we have enough left to grab a defensive play-maker... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Getting the feeling the Saints are feigning non-interest to limit the offers that Bushrod receives...
Backup plan is currently Charlie Brown... Saints primary pass protection, different than the rest of the league is in the Center and Guards... David Quessenberry would be my primary target, to be taken in the third round... Really liked Eric Fisher, and he went off at the Senior Bowl (Good for him/Bad for Us)... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
If the Saints don't make a move on Bushrod, expect a first or third round pick to be spent on Left Tackle...
This is risky, really risky, even though Drew's protection is based on Drew sitting behind the Merlons of his Guards and Center... We use the Left Tackle more for running game and for sealing off outside for wheels and swing passes to Sproles and screens to Thomas... |

Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Bills cut ties to WR Nelson - Sports - The Buffalo News
The former Florida Gators standout was expected to be tendered by the Bills, but now it looks like he will hit unrestricted free agency. Teams looking for a good possession receiver should go for Nelson, because he moves the chains very effectively from the slot. His price tag should come cheap due to the injury, and I don’t have much concern about the ACL tear. Nelson is a receiver who builds his game on consistency, and teams in need of a very good No. 3 receiver or more production in the slot should go after the 6’5″, 26-year-old. Nelson has been recovering quickly from the injury, and he is expected to make OTAs. Buffalo Bills will not tender David Nelson - Musket Fire - A New England Patriots Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more. 2. David Nelson, WR, Florida -- He elevated his draft stock at the Gators pro day, running 4.57 in the 40, with a 38-inch vertical leap and a broad jump of 10 feet, four inches. Though Nelson got overshadowed at times among all of Florida's playmakers, scouts are enamored with his 6-5 height and ability to use his 217 pounds to block and give his quarterback a big target. "He's a tough kid and a competitive kid,'' one NFL scout told me. "He's got rare height and he catches the ball well. He runs good routes and he's just crafty. He'll make someone's team.'' Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
I'd like to see the Saints be able to sign Danario Alexander; big body, great burst, good hands - if the chemistry is there, it would render the Saints passing game near unstoppable...

Maybe Bushrod and his agent are waiting for OTs like Albert to set the market before announcing what they are actually looking for, since the Saints might have already indicated that they wouldn't be pursuing his signature. |
It's not a great year to be a good LT on free agency.Jake Long,Albert both free agents,Luke Joeckel,Lane Johnson and Fisher in the draft for a fraction of the cost.I don't see any of them getting the massive payday they want.

Wonder if Brees is going to look at Brady's deal and reconsider doing something friendlier to the team's salary cap and his pass protection...

Those $26 and $27 million cap spikes at the end of the Brees deal seemed artificially high to me, like they were forcing it in there. Brady's "old" cap number this year would have been at $21.8 million, and that is not really all THAT far from Brees' projected $26.4M in 2015 type numbers, especially if you consider it in terms of an "arc" of the contract, or where they were in the timeline of the contract. We shall see. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
didn't we just give him 40 or 50 million for resigning? either way it is too early. next year maybe. but 2015 looks to be the target year to extend the deal like Bro says. we will have colston and both guards in FA too
This is looking the Guarnteed money each player has coming to them in their contracts and their FA year all the info i post was Guarnteed money for the length of there contract thus totally useless with out the contract info on the break down sorry completly sloppy on my part |

Harper Salaries per spotrac.com -

Far too much.
I'd keep him for the right money but wether he'd take such a cut or cut I'm not sure. Not even sure how many teams would touch him at $7ml a year either. |
