Be interesting to see what happens with Bushrod now.
Giants have re-signs Beatty for 5 years at $38.5(clauses 19ml guaranteed) Beatty’s contract is worth $37.5 million — and up to $38.75 million, with incentives — including $19 million fully guaranteed and a $12.5 million signing bonus, according to a person with knowledge of the terms of the deal. That person requested anonymity because the Giants do not disclose contract specifics. So around $7.5ml per year in cap space.Do we end up paying Bushrod similar and try to keep the line intact or look to a lower priced vet or the draft. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Bushrod probably thinks he deserves more than Beatty, since he is a Pro Bowler and a perennial starter at LT, but who knows..?
$7.5M would probably be as high as I'd like to see them go if they plan on re-signing Bushrod; I'm not saying he wouldn't be worth more in relative terms, but higher than that and I think the Saints are better of seeking an alternative. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
as the off season turns. freaking soap opera is in mid season form. gonna love the next few weeks.
i can live with fin numbers. Our of season turns on this move come on baby sign a LT tackle or not how much money will the signer walk away with in the way of bonus money? |

That's a good question! The Saints would probably offer much of the contract in the way of signing bonus while backloading much of the base salary, so they'd probably give a hefty handful of cash immediately to the player they signed with. ...and that's another reason why I'd like them to seek a cheaper alternative to Bushrod, since the Saints already have enough of backloaded contracts on their books - especially with the recent restructures. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
With our limited draft picks and needs at both Tackles, and the investment in Brees, Colston, et al - I can't seen how we don't sign at least one tackle - trick is do they pony up for Bushrod or pay more for a better Tackle?

Dunta Robinson released by the clowns. Does he have anything to offer?

I know Ivory had something to offer him this past season... :-) |
Haha
I loved that run, probably highlight of the season for me. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Like it was suspected, the Bills tagged Byrd, so he won't be available on the market.

The few who do make it to market will likely be way over-paid. I'm growing tired of that scenario. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
IDK, I have a feeling that someone like Connor Barwin could be had for very acceptable money, especially with this year's draft being so heavy on defensive talent.

True, I think Barwin was offered a multi-year contract prior to last season, which he turned down, and now after a disappointing season he hasn't been offered the same type of a contract by the Texans. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
What about bringing one of the Breadline Three just released from the Clowns just for fun? Think there'd be a place for Abraham or Robinson?
|
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets

Abraham has been their Will Smith for the past couple of seasons - being overpaid for the production they've been getting out of him - and there was a lot of speculation even last offseason that the Failclowns would cut him. He has lost a step during the past couple of years, and he lost a handful of games last season with an injury, which also made him a non-factor in the playoffs. Honestly, at this point in his career I would stay away from him, but who knows? He might be a fit for a 3-4 DE since he wouldn't need that explosiveness of the LOS in that position in comparison with a 4-3 DE, although I'd like to see him put on some weight if that were the case (6-4, 263). But I don't think he'd be a good pick up for the Saints. Robinson or Grimes on the other hand could provide some nice talent injection on the Saints' backfield, but there might be better fits out there than these two. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Robinson never did live up to expectations in atlanta. maybe a change in defense would work for him
|
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Dunta Robinson is one of those guys who dances around the field and celebrates like he just won the game, on every routine play, then suddenly gives up a big one. I don't see him being a fit in this locker room, but I could be wrong.

Top Ten FA List (JeanPierre) [Updated - 03/02/2013]
01 LB Daryl Smith, JAX 02 FS Kenny Phillips, NYG 03 NT Terrence Knighton, JAX 04 QB Matt Moore, MIA 05 OC Brian De La Puente, NO *RFA 06 TE Brandon Myers, OAK 07 WR Danario Alexander, SD *RFA 08 DE Ricky Jean Francois, SF 09 NT Sammie Lee Hill, 10 WR Julian Edelman, NE :saintsfan: |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
They may not be looking, but I really like Danario Alexander, he is a Robert Meacheam type reciever something the Saints sorely missed last season.

Really?! I think Morgan was very effective as the guy who could stretch the field, and he made some really nice catches down the field, the few he dropped were mostly on shorter passes. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
Alexander offers excellent size, can stretch the field adequately, and uses his hands in disciplined catches...
Smith, Phillips, and either Knighton or Hill would make excellent FA additons on defense with appropriate salaries, but can we afford anyone?!? |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
We're down to 10 days before the market opens!

Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
NFL.com says that OT Jake Long, Miami is seeking 11MIL/Annum; that's more than the franchise tag for an OL for 2013 which is at $9,828,000 for 2013 per USA Today...
Value of franchise tags determined for each position That's insane... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
long has always been a bit of a a head ache when i comes to contracts and self worth

Wonder who's courting Daryl Smith?
|
Wouldn't mind seeing him here.
Any vets we can pick up to plug positions is great IMO,we have limited picks and cap space so if we could plug either depth at NT,a new OLB/CB in FA we can pick the BPA in the draft rather than being forced to reach out of need. |

Was Meachem a #2?! My post was in regards to the one about missing Meachem and needing a player to replace what he brought to the table. |

I thought of him more of a No. 3, Slot/Seam Route Runner; as that, he was sufficient, but I didn't consider him a No. 1 or 2... |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
It appears that the Cows are about to put the franchise tag on Anthony Spencer so we can scratch him from the list.

Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets

And that was pretty much my point as well... I think an undrafted guy like Morgan has been able to fill the hole left by Meachem without any significant drop-off, maybe even the opposite. There wasn't any discussion about whether or not Meachem and Morgan are/were #2 or #3 or whatever in the Saints' offense; just about a receiver who can stretch the field. |
Re: 2013 Saints - Free Agency Targets
ok robert who? enough said
if a FA gamble does not happen i am looking at Ryan Swope, WR, Texas A&Min the third |
