Sure, walk him in and see what he's got left; if we can get him healthy and back on track, WTH! The Aussie I'd like to acquire is DL Adam Gotsis, Georgia Tech; they could be roommates... |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
He's battled injuries and cancer, and I don't know if he's even able to play but if so... He could definitely be a run stopper

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Geez...This is what it's come to...Bargain Basement Hunting...NT Jessie Williams...
Maybe we'll get lucky and find a copy of the Declaration Of Independence... Of course, that will have no value pretty soon either... |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Akiem Hicks is still available, but he's probably pissed at the Saints

Question is, why was he shipped out in the first place?!? Sidebar: Mitch, how are y'all doing in Alexandria with regards to the flooding?!? My daughter goes to the Louisiana School in Natchitoches and the images are pretty awesome... |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
We dodged a bullet with regards to the water, not flooded at all. But from Winnfield north it's crazy.

We're all clamoring for D-Line, but we may have the answer already on the roster.
Tyeler Davison and Kaleb Eulls could be primed for a huge season... It could happen... |

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Some free agent possibilities remaining:
DE Chris Long RG Evan Mathis FS Eric Weddle LB James Laurinaitis LB Sean Spence |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
I'd sign Sean Spence. I'm just going to assume we're a 3-4 team from now on. Eric Weddle isn't going to come to New Orleans. I wouldn't mind Evan Mathis on a 2 year deal. I don't know if Chris Long or James Laurinaitis can play in the 3-4. Plus James is slow. We're trying to get faster.

John Jenkins was a big 3-4 NT that we spent two draft picks to get... Jenkins was asked to lose weight last pre-season and be a 3-tech Tackle - bad, bad idea... Cam Jordan's size and abilities allow him to play in either a 3-4 or 4-3... Stephone Anthony can play in both sets, but was projected to be a standout 3-4 ILB... Davis Tull was scouted best as a 3-4 OLB, Jack Linebacker... Tyeler Davison was projected as a Nose Tackle or a run stopping 3-4 DE... Now, the last group of UDRFA clearly were better suited to a 4-3, and also added to Rob Ryan's exit and Allen's installment... But I don't agree necessarily that our talent is better suited 4-3... In Fact, I'd argue it's a mistake putting Allen in charge now because we had clearly acquired personnel to transition to a 3-4; Sean Payton was on record as saying so... Our problems on defense will continue as we flip-flop on our defensive identity... I'm not overly optimistic spending high draft choices on defense with Allen in charge running a 4-3 defense with best talent best suited to a 3-4 ... |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Chris Long and potroast are the signings I'd like to see.
|
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Jeff Ireland and company needs to have another solid draft.
If we are running the 4-3, I'm still beating the drum on Mr. Nick Fairley. The quickness and speed is still there and he is strong. Bring him in on the cheap to New Orleans. |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Probably won't see more signings until we get closer to training camp...
Veterans aren't going to participate in the off-season, mini-camp programs on a minimum, low-ball salary... They'll hire a trainer and stay in some kind of shape and wait out attrition and for teams to come to them (leverage)... |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Tyeler Davison is a poor mans Sheldon Rankins Just needs time to develop. Tyeler Davison is better off at 43 DT not 34DE or a 34 NT. His game is all about quickness and splitting the gaps. Never agreed with the 34 DE talk. Plenty of upside at the right position. Actual may turn out to be better than Rankins at DT down the road.
John Jenkins is a rotational NT in 43. He is not quick enough for 43DT. Not strong enough for 34NT. Not sold he has the desire to be the starter Stephone Anthony fared pretty well as a MLB in a 43 set. I will judge in 3 years what we got. they dumped a lot on the kid. so far so good Davis Tull I can see him as a 4-3 Sam. Starter? not sure yet. He was a WR in high school which always helps. He is athletic enough to handle it. Remember he was one of the freak-show in the pre draft beauty pageants. He obliterated the Combine 42 1/2-inch vertical and 11-foot broad jump and a pro day forty of 4.57. Thats still freakish even by 2016 standards. Football IQ was rated as high. No one questions his motor either. Give him a couple of years and lets see what we got. There is more to this kid than pass rushing skills. Plus special teams impact will be huge while we are waiting. I am actually looking forward to this show over the next couple of years. But Kikaha is the biggest question mark in a 43. Hard to peg the kid for anything but a 34. Kikaha game is down hill and behind the line. DE? He may end up being a pass rush specialist. But I am not selling him short as an option at SLB. Some work is needed, ok maybe a good bit but stranger things have worked out. Besides it not like we have any DE opposite of Cam anyways that provide a pass rush. Weak side attacking DE? I see this group as flexible enough to go 43. But we have a bunch of starters right now that are better suited as rotational players. Which I may blame Rob for but I will give DA some time and see were he goes with this. Tyeler Davison DT is the move I am hoping for the most this off season. He does needs a space eater with some pass rush skills to open things up for him. |

There's an interesting name. |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
I honestly don't know anything about Craig. Fast? How is he in pass coverage? If he can be had on the cheap, bring him in to camp and see what he does.
Side note: I wonder if the Saints FO have any interest in Zach Brown or T Whitehead? |
Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
I think Whitehead must have resigned with Detroit. I didn't see his name on the list of available free agents. Haven't seen news of any transactions regarding him either though..

Re: 2016 Saints Free Agency
Fry,
Thanks for the update. Yep, I see the Lions re signed him (Tahir Whitehead). |

If you watched any Browns games in 2014, you probably noticed Robertson jump off the screen when they were on defense. The guy is a playmaker. He started games at the Mo and Mike linebacker spots in the Browns 3-4 defense. Robertson had 99 combined tackles in 2014, but 37 stops at, or behind, the line of scrimmage. He is always around the ball, which is an instinct you want in a linebacker. He also is good in coverage, with 4 passes defensed and 2 interceptions last year. This earned him a +2.2 cumulative grade via Pro Football Focus. One of the attributes that sets Robertson apart from his peers is his intensity. He’s a tenacious player and that type of swagger and spirit could be used in Denver. He also has experience playing with his former Browns teammate, T.J. Ward. But that’s neither here nor there.
