Alabama Pro Day today. Looking forward to seeing a 40 time for Rashaan Evans.

I understand he isn't running the 40 & there is no injury concerns. Any insight here?

How important are 40 times actually? The other day on NFL Radio they were talking about the six fastest 40 times ever by NFL players and only one of those players has had any significant impact in the NFL, Chris Johnson, and his impact was fairly short lived.

You’re right... I have no idea what’s going on there. Saw him doing drills and he looked great. Very explosive. Can’t imagine it has anything to do with concern over his speed.

IDK, depends on what coaches, scouts you ask as it relates to the position. For me a linebacker must be speedy. They are covering tight ends & sometimes a WR. Same goes for cornerbacks ... often times they are running side ways & backwards.

IIRC Lattimore ran a sub 4.35 & Crawley 4.41. That's blazing so at the corner position, speed is extremely important.

Just my .02 .

I’m not too concerned about 40 time for LB’s unless it’s 4.70+. You want to look at drills that focus on change of direction and acceleration like the 20-yard shuttle and three-cone (both of which Rashaan Evans tested in the average to outstanding range at the combine.)

Pro Day March 7: Alabama/Colorado/Colorado State | Draft Analyst

Ok apparently Alabama is having a second Pro Day on 3/28 and that’s when Rashaan Evans will run a 40.

And here’s a good tidbit from the above website...

Da'Shawn Hand sat on his terrific combine numbers but looked terrific in drills today. The senior lined up at defensive end in Alabama’s three man front but most teams are projecting him as a three technique tackle. Nick Saban has been singing Hand’s praises to NFL coaches, telling them Hand was willing to put the team over himself the past two years. I’m told the New Orleans Saints are very high on Hand, who will be a top 50 pick in April.

You want to at least run certain times at certain positions if you want to be effective. You can’t play cornerback in the NFL running a 4.7, but you can probably make that work at safety since you’re playing so far off of receivers most of the time. It’s not as important as some make it, but it’s also not as insignificant as others try to say.
