Can Southlake (Humphrey) step up his game in 2020? How about Callaway? Or sleeper Juwan Johnson?

I'll take anyone of these guys over Austin one reception Carr.

K - are u guys baiting me up on this Austin Carr BS . The reason Carr and TLL are back in the fold is because of ties to the NFL fraternity that they take care of family of favors from bill parcells to Megan Payton , it is what it is like the Tracy Lawrence song - I was up for a promotion but the bosses little brother got the call [emoji529]

IDK St Thomas ...

Austin will be a camp beast then flame out again this season. His biggest supporter is Brees (talked him up last training camp) yet he flamed out in 2019. Maybe Tre Smith steps up in a big way? Or maybe a undrafted guy?

Insanity. Resigning the same players that didn't work out last season again this season.

New blood, new hope :smokin:.

I really think a big reason for this is the shortened off-season. Having players in place that already know the system, whether or not they make the final roster, can be more important this year than a slight upgrade with no familiarity with the system.

That's why they brought back Austin Carr...

Shortened OffSeason, need as many WRs that know the system in camp to assist with the tutelage of the younger WRs is where my thoughts go on this...

Payton has been particularly OCD when it comes to the crispness and flow of practices and having more veterans familiar with the offensive vernacular, drills, routine eases that concern...

Ty ... potentially another weapon on offense.

Bring in a legitimate pass rusher (Everson Griffen) and this off season is complete. Surely we freed up cap space to bring in another edge rusher?

Coach does tend to like signing former Vikings players.

Did I say I want Everson Griffen :D ?

Re: 2020 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

I love the Ty Montgomery signing. He has a lot of upside as a 3rd down RB and he can be a legitimate slot WR.

jeanpierre 05-15-2020 06:28 PM

Re: 2020 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Now the question is do we end up keeping four (4) RBs and one (1) FB?

Saints have Ty Montgomery listed as a RB...

Saints have Ty Montgomery listed as a RB...

As he was listed most recently. It is for payment reasons. They agreed to a RB contract level as opposed to a WR level which is higher. Makes sense.

Might also have something to do with Montgomery having poor hands, and that's why he's playing RB...

He does offer something in the return game, though...

He does offer something in the return game, though...

ProFootball Reference: Ty Montgomery Career Stats

Poor hands? PFR says he has a 73.6% career catch rate. That's not bad. By comparison Todd Gurley's career catch rate is 72.4% and I've never heard anyone say he has poor hands.

Montgomery really only had one bad receiving year and that was when he played for Baltimore. His catch % was 62.5 that season. The team rate was only 60%.

In his first season before he played RB he had a 78.9% rate. That's very good. I think it would be hard to say he has "poor hands."

Utah, he was moved from WR to RB (see scouting report) because of his hands; sure you'd agree it's different catching lobs out of the backfield vs darts downfield in coverage...

According to ProFootball Reference, since joining the league, he's not even in the top 200 on catch rate for RBs...

That was the point I was making about his position designation; and one of the pluses of his addition to the roster is that he'd been a solid return guy except for one gaffe Packers fans couldn't forget...

I was under the impression he switched to RB because Eddie Lacey and James Starks got injured and they were desperate. Randall Cobb was even lining up in the backfield at times.

Yes, that's what I remember too. GB was out of RBs and Montgomery was pressed into service.

That's why I pointed out his catch rate before being moved to RB. 78% is crazy good for a WR.

I'm not saying he's the best receiving back in the league but to say he has "poor hands" is quite a stretch.

Yes. That was the impetus for the move. I remember all the talk about that on NFL Radio when it came about.

And that interior defensive line, Shy Tuttle graded better...

Uneasy part is the defensive front seven injured players and not knowing how their rehab is coming with all the guidelines the past few weeks...

Only Anzalone, that I know of, has commented on social media that he was doing great...

Starting Monday rehabing players can report to the team facilities. No other players or coaches can, however. Only rehabs.

Guido, what is the rational behind limiting coaches?

According to NFL Radio it is the unlevel playing field argument. Apparently every state will allow rehabilitation (ie. medical), but not regular business (ie. coaching and healthy player training). Therefore, only those services allowed across the board are being allowed by the league. Just like the draft. Even if one state would allow a gathering the fact that not all did required everyone to draft from home.

All I wish for is to have the best player at each position, and a equal player at strength for a back up.
