We built it over twenty years ago. Expanded the deck all around and added a nice big pergola last Spring. I've successfully eliminated 3/4 of the grass I need to mow out back now. LOL! Can't convince the wife to go ahead and deck the rest.

Saints are cutting DT Taylor Stallworth. I don’t have the link handy. Shy Tuttle made him expendable and Ryan Nielsen reportedly loves rookie Malcolm Roach.

I'd hate to be keeping score for you. I threw competitive darts for many years. I was once on the board of the SBDA (Shreveport/Bossier Dart Association) and president of BAD (Bossier Association of Darts). The scorekeeper stands right beside the board. At my house if you can't hit the board you watch. LOL! A nice set of darts run from $50-$200 and I wouldn't want any of mine hitting brick.

Good start. Back in the early '80's I played in a lot of Open dart tourneys. Open means anybody of any level can enter and play through the brackets. I think it was about 1982 when Leighton Rees, World Champion in 1978, was making the tourney swing through the southern US and he played in the $25K Shreveport stop. I came up against him in the third round. We were playing 301, best two of three. I threw out my ass the first game and beat him. A big local crowd gathered around pulling for me. Hadn't had enough to drink to calm those nerves. He never said a word and played the best games I had ever seen the next two. But, to this day I can say I beat a world champion ... at least once.

He was about 42 at the time. Pretty much the prime for dart pros. This picture is from that era. Damn he was intense. I was pumped when I saw the bracket.

It sounds like the theme from Rocky or Over The Top from a Stallone film.

And I love it when they don't see you coming. My games were foosball and pool. I won the stick that was used in the Louisiana state Champions and went 14th in the Nationals from my friend. I was slightly better than he was. My eyes aren't what they used to be now though.

My other game was cribbage. I learned to play it from my Dad when I was very young. I played doubles with my great-grandpa, my grandpa and my dad. The National Cribbage Championships were held back in the '70's in Raleigh, NC. It was organized by a gentleman named Nick Pond who was the Sports Editor at WRAL TV in Raleigh. I think it was the 1978 ACC basketball tournament in Greensboro during a break between sessions that I challenged Nick to a match of cribbage. We were in the "press lounge" and he had just played someone else and beat them. I was photo editor of the NCSU newspaper at the time and had casually met him before, but here is this kid challenging him. He said sure. We played best two out of three and I beat him two straight. He said I was the best player he had ever met under the age of forty and on the spot invited me to play in the World Championships that Summer which was held at the Velvet Cloak Inn in Raleigh. I ended up having to turn him down because I didn't have the money or time to travel back there because I was earning summer money for school while working at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City.

It is a card game. There are several ways to score and you use a board that totals 120 points. There is quite a bit of strategy involved because you have to discard cards to the other player's "crib" which is an extra hand and and to your own when you have it. Dealer gets the extra crib hand. Six cards are dealt in two person play. Four cards are kept, two thrown away to form that third four card hand. The non-dealer then cuts the deck and the dealer turns the top card. That card becomes the fifth card in all three hands. But, before counting points in the hands you play a back and forth round laying down cards trying to form pairs, runs, totals of 15, totals of 31, or the last card that can be played without going over 31 using your opponent's play. This is called pegging. Hands score off of combinations that total 15, pairs, runs, and all of one suit. You can also get one point if the turn card is the same suit as a Jack in your hand. Any point missed counting by your opponent you can claim for your own.

I learned how to read what other players had and how they played, much like poker. It can be a gambling game, as well, with a fixed amount per point which can add up especially if you get "skunked" (beat by 30 or more points counts double) or "double skunked" (60 or more).

Ah, yes! Bourré! I used to play that in a couple of bars in Shreveport/Bossier area around '82. I won enough one night to buy a $700 car I needed when my piece of crap died. That is a cutthroat game. Match the pot if you don't win a trick. Another game better played against drunk or rich players. Preferably both. They finally made it illegal to play in bars here. Playing dollar ante I won $800 in one hand after the pot had built. I also won a diamond men's ring from a jeweler friend that played. So much fun. I love the game.

You wouldn't want to play me. Unless you partnered up in a game. Not cheating, but understanding my bids and how to react. Best for you.

Yeah, but not sure how Nolan's departure is going to affect that group and the rookies' development - especially with the diminished joint practice time.

Here's a recent interview with the new linebackers coach: Michael Hodges, that may answer some of those questions:

It doesn't really, because all it is - is talk at the moment.

Probably just me, but that number shouldn’t be issued to rookies.

Guys wearing 57 haven't been able to stay healthy - 57 should be retired along with 8...

Morten is one I'm on the fence about as he went to the Falcons (Thank you for that, Jim Mora), but I'd consider retiring his number as well...
