2022 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

Wonder if we see a Taysum extension
I could see him getting a new 4 years deal but being paid in that TE/WR 2 sphere around the 9/10ml mark. I guess it all depends if he feels he is a starting QB or if he knows that being a offensive weapon and back up QB for the Saints is best long term. Could take a big chunk off the cap.

I just can't see the team investing in a one read and run QB. Taysom is a great gadget player but when he's under center he's very limited. Taysom needs some touch to his ball since he likes to throw bullets.

Regardless of what we think Taysom could, or could not become, his current contract stupefies me. Why give him that much money, wrt cap impact, when:

1) His body of work hasn’t proven he’s that valuable.

&

2) They’re not even certain he’s “the guy”.

For all the amazing cap maneuvering and work the Saints as an organization have been behind, I just don’t understand that contract. It baffles me, lol, yes, I did say “baffles”.

No way I pay him anywhere near 8 digits in an extension. Maybe $4.5M per year, somewhere in that range, not much more though.

I'm not talking of them investing in him as a QB but as a offensive weapon/back up QB. As a all round weapon and part of the QB room I think you can justify a 9/10ml a year deal. It depends if he still thinks he's a starring calibre QB
