Are you guessing or do you have inside info?
Be happy enough with that.
It means we can focus on a pass rusher line depth and BPA in the draft.

Re: Nnamdi is still looking at Niners, Saints

If Nnamdi really puts in the work (which he will) so that he can protect his legacy and try to make a push for the HOF, he would be a genius pickup at the right price. I'm thinking three years, this year a signing bonus plus a 1.25 base salary, total cap hit around 2.5 this year would be a "good price."

Rob knows how to maximize his skills, and he would definitely step it up in the weight room and film room to show Rob he can still do it and to show the HOF voters that he can write a third chapter better than his second.

Winfield is way over the hill, why would you want him? Nnamdi is better

Re: Nnamdi is still looking at Niners, Saints

Honestly, San Fran might also be a good landing spot for Nnamdi, but the Saints have RR who knows how to utilize his skill set best. The 49ers are a good team with a shot at a ring. So it comes down to money I guess.

Report: Saints “Pushing” To Sign CB Nnamdi Asomugha

Ian Rapoport tweets that the New Orleans Saints are “pushing really hard” to sign free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha.

Rapoport adds that Asomugha is reportedly “torn” between the Saints and 49ers at this point in time.

A previous indicated that the 49ers are unwilling to offer him a starting job before training camp. Given the Saints level of interest and the likelihood that they could offer him a starting job, it would appear that they’re the favorites to sign Asomugha.

We have Nnamdi listed as the No. 12 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Weve made it obvious to Asomugha that hes wanted on our team, this is probably his last chance to make a name for himself, come to New Orleans with Rob Ryan

Re: Report: Saints “Pushing” To Sign CB Nnamdi Asomugha

Was is he torn by...

If San Fran would have done a terrific job, he would have never got on a plane...

And if he wanted to be with the Saints, he would have signed by now...

Does he want the Saints to release players (i.e. Harper) so the Saints can meet his salary commands despite get 4+ from Philly in guaranteed money...

Let's move on...

Wouldn't the money be better spent on a pass rush, which at some point last year everyone complained about. The inability to get to opposing QB's without blitzing.

I would think so Joker. i would be putting OT ahead of both but they will do as they please and it aint so bad to have a problem of to many good CB on the roster

Usually March Madness is taking care of me at this time, but I'm not sure I can wait another month for something to happen!

It's more than likely not even about the money. I guarantee that he counts as the league minimum against the cap this year for whoever signs him. He'll get a two year deal with a nice signing bonus and maybe $7-8 guaranteed, with most of that back loaded on the second year. We have (and will) do a lot worse for our team with a lot more money. I wouldn't sweat it. Loomis has these things figured out and wouldn't even pursue him if he couldn't make it work for the team as a whole. The decision for Asomugha boils down to either playing for an already proven defense without knowing his roll or playing for the coach that "made" him on an unproven defense. It's a tough spot.

Agreed. I also think he is sorta holding the phone line open a while longer in case a third team wants to jump in and make a bid.

If I'm wrong about this guy I'll be the first to admit it, but he spent the last two years being burned by every WR he lined up against whether it was man coverage or zone.
I hope his signing if he does doesn't result in us losing a younger player.

How many players are we going to sign for whom the "magic payday" resulted in their lack of commensurate performance. I'd rather hungry and slightly less talented than supremely talented and unmotivated.

Maybe we should put their contracts in a performance base only type of way, we wouldn't have to worry about a salary cap issue, he!! the way our D played last year they would be elgible for food stamps.

Florida Gulf Coast University?!?

Are you kidding?!?

Men's College Basketball with its one year commitments and decline in passing, dribbling, and skilled shooting is geauxing the way of the NBA...

And yet you get Florida Gulf Coast University, I'm back in!

REALLY?! This guy is one of our starting QBs and with Nnamdi, lewis. greer, robinson and porter coming back our secondary will be the best in the nfl.

with victor, lofton, vilma, hawthorne not bad at linebacker either

if we land albert at lt

all we need is the dline and the draft should be about nothing but the dline

That sounds pretty magical.....don't count on it though. :-) I can't imagine how we can make ALL of that work. It is nice to dream though.

Re: Report: Saints “Pushing” To Sign CB Nnamdi Asomugha

I sort of don't understand the fuss about Aso. I mean, if the price is acceptable, why not? It's a passing league, and any team can use all of the DB help they can get. It's fairly obvious that we plan on addressing out pass rush woes in the draft. The DB market is very buyer friendly this year. I say go for it. No one is complaining about the year we brought Sharper in, and he was in far worse condition with many more miles on him. Also, let's not forget that the general consensus around the entire league is that Aso was misused in an inappropriate scheme in Philly.

I think that it is obvious that the Saints want Nnamdi and they want to upgrade their pass rush with young talent from the draft

It does appear that way. They may also be confident in Galette and Wilson as well. I'm hoping Ryan saw film of Galette and thinks he can make this young man a dominant force. I hope he sees some Demarcus Ware type talent in him.

Maybe asumuaga didnt like the turf in philly like a race horse likes only certan tracks or conditions to the turf or dirt. Maybe he loves him some superdome for a superbowl.

Its pretty much a done deal. I know a guy that knows a guy and he has already taken his physical, gone out in New Orleans for a night out and had a really good time. Unless he totally has a change of heart he will be a Saint in 2013.
