One thing really likable about Shane Buechele, he can throw multiple arm angles and he throws the ball to the side of the WR opposite the DB...

Oh, the other thing - he's very, very smart...

Outside of QB, I think the Saints need to draft another CB.

Jack Rabbit is still good, however he's older and of course we have Latt.

After those two, it gets really "iffy" on those boundaries.

And we can't afford him...

Jevon Holland - S

Oregon

Slightly undersized (6-190) but he's good in coverage. Could drop to the 2nd round.

To some he’s the top safety in the draft. I don’t know how it’s going to go for players who opted out last season when there’s no combine or private workouts leading up to this draft.

Some scouts are grading him higher than Trevon Moehrig - who I really like...

Since I have no impact on who we end up taking I'll just wait and find out when it happens. I never get pissed off that the guy I thought they should pick wasn't picked. It makes the draft so much more enjoyable I would imagine.

What linebackers you like?

Good NFL pro prospect right here.

I love Kwon but he probably won't be back. Saints need some young dawgs + DD is one year older. I appear to be a broken record, but sign me up for fast sideline to sideline guys who arrive with bad intentions. See Tampa Bay.

Speaking of LB’s, Jabril Cox is almost a Kwon Alexander clone. I’m not sold on Missouri’s Nick Bolton yet.

Cox? The kid who played for the LSU Tigers last fall? Saints won't touch him, just like last year with Patrick Queen.

All I know is at the end of the day, 6 former Tigers will be playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday evening. Hopefully the Saints scouts get the memo that there are some difference makers in Baton Rouge we should take a serious look at in the 2021 draft.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

I’m fairly certain the team plans on Zack Baun being the starting Mike LB next season. Payton stated after the draft that they envisioned him playing that role and they gave him a whole season to learn and make that transition.

Forget about a LB in the first round.

K Major, I’ve been saying it I joined the forum - a linebacker with range this year, PLEASE!! Kwon was arguably the piece that helped our defense most last season. Watching Levonte and Devin in the Super Bowl (and previous SF and SEA teams) made me envious!

I'd be real happy if, in the second/third round, we landed one of these guys to play opposite DeMario Davis:
(In no particular order)
  • Jabril Cox, LSU - terrific coverage LBer who can even match up on slot receivers, as well as RBs and TEs; yeah, I know, he's LSU...

  • Chazz Surratt, UNC - recruited as an ATH-QB, smart guy, reads fast and has athleticism to make it happen, create turnovers...

  • Dylan Moses, Bama - dilemma with Bama players is their depth and who's coasting off others; he looks the goods...

Have been trying to go back and find solid film, this year is going to be difficult to stack because of the #WuhanPandemic f'ing everything; but I was looking forward to these guys this year...

76,

I agree 100%. It's a shame Kwon couldn't stay healthy though. He was a bright spot alongside DD the minute he suited up game 1.

Devin Smith is an absolute stud for Tampa. We need one in New Orleans.

It will be interesting to see how Baun is used in season #2.

If history has shown us anything about Saints drafts, a LB (especially from LSU) will not be chosen in the first round. All through Payton’s tenure, they’ve had a total of one drafted first IIRC.

Facts.

I watch LSU more than most and what I've seen is that he has good hips/change of direction. Match up nightmare for TE's & can cover.

Not to mention he "fits" the 4-3 scheme. Coach "O" had nothing but praise for him as a player & sees him as an "immediate impact player" at the next level.

A lot of LSU players transition well to the NFL. IMO he's worth a serious 1st round look.

OK, so it needs to be O-line, Cox or a FS. It will change before the actual draft I'm sure.

Yep.

Just last year I didn't Ruiz coming & McCoy the year before.

Good talking points though :D.

I always plan on them drafting for the trenches in the first round. It's been their MO for quite a few years now.

Don't think we could have drafted him faster than the 5th overall pick like the Bucs got him with. And just out of curiosity, which LSU linebackers were the Saints in position to draft and didn't?

2020 draft Patrick Queen. 65 solo total tackles/40 assisted/3 sacks/2 FF and 1 INT. Very good production in his rookie season for Baltimore.

We selected (I'm not complaining) Ruiz instead.

Speed at lb is a must. White were in every picture , near every tackle, on every play thru out the playoffs except Washington I believe and into to S bowl. What does Payton and mick don’t get. Love triangle with Fabio/ Thor slash bust well 3 rder can’t say that we fail often on those

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Having 2 LB's that can run like greyhounds and being able to match an offense's speed in the nickel more easily is now going to be the new meta in the NFL. The fast LB's out of college are going to be in high demand now. The Vander Esch's aren't going to fall in the draft like they used to.

Also the saints defense lost there mojo when quon went down. I would take a LSU LB that didn’t start or played second fiddle to stacked players over there. There built on speed and cover always have been.,but I don’t know diddily squat. Offensively we were in trouble before the season began. People talk about Drew didn’t have that eye of the tiger. I never responded to the few that were saying this but may have had something going. Not the commander on the field? I just can’t finger it. Maybe when MT went down he knew it was gonna be a beotch season.

In DW's case, True.

Was making a humourous (and truthful) reference of the perception (ongoing joke here) that they're have been LSU and LBer options (and LSU LBers) on the draft board in second, third rounds...

Those were usually traded a way because of regular moving up in the draft...

jeanpierre 02-11-2021 05:26 PM

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

And for what it's worth, I'm on board with the BPA - but I'd prefer either a CB or OT at the end of the first round...

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Matt Miller, formerly of Bleacher Report, has launched his own draft website and his first mock draft is free for non-subscribers. Here’s the link...

https://www.thedraftscout.com/p/the-draft-scout-mock-10

Here’s what he has the Saints doing and I think we’d be very pleased:

28. New Orleans Saints- LB Jabril Cox, LSU
Analysis: Barring a massive trade and a lot of assets trading hands, the Saints head into the offseason without an expected starting quarterback.

With no quarterbacks on the board who can become the replacement to Drew Brees, the Saints are likely to rely on the return of Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill to solve the quarterback position.

So where do you go with pick No. 28 overall? You address the defense.

Jabril Cox was hard to miss at LSU thanks to his 6’4”, 245 pound frame and ability as a lockdown coverage linebacker when matched up against tight ends and backs. He shined once again during Senior Bowl week and secured his position as a Round 1 talent.

The former North Dakota State star has the athletic tools, coverage traits and instincts the NFL craves for linebackers.

60. New Orleans Saints
The Pick: CB Elijah Molden, Washington
Previous Pick: LB
