I get your logic and agree, but we fairly recently (2015 iirc) drafted a third round QB, didn’t work out but the FO must have though very highly of him, given the fairly high draft pick, 75 overall, used. I’m not as confident in the Saints player analytics wrt QB’s as I am wrt OLinemen, lol.

The way I’m looking at the QB pos’n right now is unless there is a slam dunk guarantee starter, in this draft, who will be better than Jameis or Taysom..., then don’t address a possible “need” or a possible “cap saver”. This team has some quite obvious, unambiguous needs. Prioritize those.

Lee I know this is only a "mock" but I hope the Saints stay away from guys with medical red flags in college. Especially that high in the draft. No biggie if we are taking a gamble on a 6th or undrafted player. But 1st or 2nd round ? No way.

Ha'oli Kikaha comes to mind.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Yeah i'd be the same in a actual draft.
Just really really bored messing around.

For me that's what comp picks are for, players slipping out of the first and second rounds due to injuries i have no issues throwing a comp pick at them, even if you have to red shirt IR them for a year. But i agree the first two rounds should be as sure a bet as you can

Zaven Collins will be the pick in the first whether I agree with it or not. A CB like UCF’s Aaron Robinson or Stanford’s Paulson Adebo will be the pick in the second.

Nah it'll be

R1 Terrace Marshall
R2 Jabril Cox
R3 JaCoby Stevens

Coaches are going to stop the moaning at no LSU Players

Reality is

R1 Wyatt Davis
R2 Pete Werner
R3 Shaun Wade
R3 Baron Browning
R4 Tommy Togiai
R6 Trey Sermon

Tom Brady was the 199th pick, Round 6. Joe Montana a third round pick. Drew Brees was the 32nd pick, and Brett Favre 33rd pick, both in the second round...

Kurt Warner was an Undrafted Free Agent...

So your QB can come from any location, though I admit, most come in the first round...

Samuel may be a reach, but he'll justify the pick...

Don't get the grade on Jabril Cox, he'll be fire opposite DeMario...

Know the popular pick would be a WRz, but I want those two TE packages to move methodically downfield, eating clock...

Spencer Brown is my still, and allows the team to move on from Mr. Glass...

Robinson can move in behind Cam Jordan, learn, develop...

Bates makes the TE group young and elite...

With so much veteran money tied into RB, Jermar Jefferson gives a less expensive, more explosive RB to spell Kamara...

Tommy Doyle is listed as a tackle, but he can be a Carl Nicks type LG...

Surely the NFL could make more money if they stretched it out longer. Anyone remember when it was a one day affair? It's just another one of the moves Godhell has made to over saturate the market.

I'm surprised that we don't have a 4th game during the week. That would give us Sunday football games which last all day. Monday night football which the NFL is trying to run more double headers on Monday. Then there's the Thursday night games which aren't as fun to watch because they don't have a full week to practice. So that still leaves four more days for the NFL to further expand and over saturate the NFL market.

I'm in. I'll watch NFL every day as long as it is live. The market isn't close to being saturated because every new time slot becomes one of the top viewed programs on broadcast TV. There are a lot of people that work on Sundays so being able to see live games on other days is great.

Fully understand..., and agree. So..., which one of the potential second round and later guys are going to supplant Tom Brady, or Joe Montana? I don’t think the Saints know either. If they did know, unequivocally and unambiguously, then I’m all on board with drafting a Tom Brady or Joe Montana or Drew Brees replacement, in any position.

Trust me, I know the quantitative analysis is there on dang near everybody in the draft, regardless of pos’n, but sometimes fit with a team, or a single bad position coach, or a personality quirk, etc... can turn a superstar in the making into persona non grata with an NFL team’s FO, ensuring he is seen as a bust.

It’s the uncertainty, not the round drafted. imho, if you’re drafted, you have the potential. After that, it’s just development and fit that makes the difference between success or failure. Brees wasn’t exactly a stud puppy at San Diego, and regardless of injury, I firmly believe he would have been completely wasted had he and Payton not found their joined at the hip relationship.

Taking the best player available is a luxury that we can’t really afford this year with so many holes.

As many holes as we have wouldn't taking the best player available most likely fill a hole?

TJ is much more of a slot guy than boundary corner.

But K, what do you do with Gardner? If anything, this Saints roster is thin on boundary, outside-press CBs right now...

At least P-Rob and P.J. can spot-start for you a couple games per season at the outside CB2 spot...

Halloween, you might want to flip Walker Little and Davis there; Walker Little for sure is being talked about in the first round among the more credible scouting services...

Personally Davis is a 3rd grade, though a late 2nd reach would certainly be in his range; but Little is skyrocketing up boards right now...

My favorite tackle, one I hope we draft, is Northern Iowa's Spencer Brown; he could start as a Rookie, allow you to move Ramczyk to LT, pay him accordingly...

You could get some serious draft capital for Armstead, and unload his contract number with a sign and trade...

105. DE Patrick Jones II (Pitt)

I’m still not sold on Stokes being a first round talent but I’m not a know-it-all.

IF our CB2 out of Farley, Horn, or Newsome isn't there, nor a really elite top 3 WR doesn't fall, I'd move back and get more Day 2 picks...

There's no DL nor OL out of the top 10 that's a R1 pick to me, nor a QB not named Trevor or Zach...

Aside from QB1 (Brees), and CB2 (JJenkins), we're essentially returning the same roster, so it's not like we have that many holes as you've argued in past posts...

Same roster minus thirteen departures. That's basically a fourth (24.5%) of our 53 man roster from 2020. That's not including the possible loss of Lattimore.

I'd prefer Ceedy at safety ... good range and instincts.

Malcolm Jenkins is old.

I personally would like to see Little tutored by Armstead for a year, if Armstead goes down then Little gets worked in early. Davis is rising to a late first or early second close enough at where we pick. I don't want Ram moved, he's nasty where he's at, nothing gets by him.

I think Jenkins is a weak link in the D, seems Allen is trying to form the secondary around him which is a mistake. Enter a sideline to side line lb (Jamin Davis) and another S Andre Cisco it ends the Jenkins 2.0 experiment.

Rashod Bateman - WR Minnesota

Excellent technique catching the ball, solid speed and runs great routes. Notice the route starting around 1:22 ... next level stuff.

I love to see WR's catching the ball with their hands. Body catchers look so damn awkward and clumsy.

Couple of Day 2 CBs I like are Paulson Adebo and there's talk Asante Samuel could fall into Round 2 because of his height, and his SPARQ...

XVI - IIRC you called it on Chauncey Gardner J months before that draft class :bng: .

Zaven Collins would be a hell of a pick @28 if he's still there.
