Fun fact - Dylan's dad (Edwin Moses Jr) is an Attorney in Baton Rouge and big NFL fan ... I wonder if he's a Saints fan :p.

Kentucky - LB Jamin Davis.

Pro Day numbers:

6'4 233 lbs
42" vertical
4.42 40

I'd say JD's draft stock is trending upward.

Thats a pretty good comp... but for us, isnt that the role Zack Baun is supposed to be playing?

Grab Tyler Shelvin in the third round and Sean has his 3-4 defense...

Isn't Wade Phillips looking for a new gig?

Collins & Newsome II are players that could quite possibly be in our range & are a fit/want/need. So that means will probably draft a guard from Portland State :(

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

I highly recommend this interview with Zaven Collins...

https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles...pect-interview

He comes across as very humble and highly intelligent. Plus theres this little nugget:

Ive met with many teams. Ive met with a ton of scouts. My first big meeting was with the New Orleans Saints. That was my first meeting where we went through defensive coverages and whatnot. They had me learning their defense. Thats the big one so far.

Combine that with seeing Jeff Ireland talking to Zaven at his pro day today and where theres smoke, theres fire. I think hed be excellent at Will... which he mentions in that interview.

Are you doing the trade before Pick 28 or there?

Or you making that trade based on a player(s) that you prefer are falling to 28?

On the second one, just didn't see anyone I thought you have to draft him. So traded back. The top CBs had gone, no edge rusher. Collins had gone too. I think there was a couple of tackles there. The only real steal by the adp was Elijah Moore and I'm not picking a 5'8 WR in the first.

Just some fun so took the trades. It would be a dream scenario though adding that much depth for the next couple of years even if Loomis has to find the money to sign them

Think trading Horn might be a bit rich for the Saints on draft day now.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Forgive me for thinking out loud here, I just need to get this out there. Zaven Collins is a perfect fit for a Patriots-style defense. Hes Donta Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, etc. The Saints have this really weird desire to get these hybrid LBs without actually having the ability to implement a multiple scheme. Zack Baun is such a talented player, but we couldnt find a way to get him on the field. I fear it would be the same with Zaven Collins. Somebody in the organization wants us to run a multiple defense and we just arent capable of doing it. End rant.

Won't Zack Baum find a way this year with the depletion of talent around him?

Well thats the million dollar question. I really wish I could know the vision for Baun this year. After we drafted him Payton said they envisioned him playing the Mike. Id sleep a lot easier if I knew he was stepping into that role and we had one less hole to fill in the draft.

To me, this just reeks of Martez Wilson again. You have a pass rushing outside backer in Baun that succeeded in college doing just that. I believe he was given under 5 snaps all season and didn't rush the passer once. With them envisioning him at the Mike position.

He'll be another square peg round hole guy that FO can't make work.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Rumors are circulating now that the Saints are very intrigued by QB Kyle Trask. No way in hell that would be in the first round, but its possible theyre eyeing him in the 2nd.

K Major 04-04-2021 11:26 AM

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Trask's inability to move & scramble is a concern for most coaches/GMs. I do like his pocket presence & ability to read defenses. Put up big numbers at Florida against stellar SEC defenses. With all the "hype" surrounding Wilson, Mac Jones, Fields ... maybe Trask slides in the draft.

I wouldn't pick him at 28, but Day 2 or 3? ... maybe so.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

If he's there in the 2nd I'd say go for it. Or if they traded back and got a extra picks then yeah take the chance if you think he's good enough. I think he will be gone before the Saints pick in R2. Soneone will go for him after the others go early.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Sleight of hand wrt Trask. FO is trying to move other teams, Im not buying the Saints are interested. IF there are rumors about a specific player right now, there is a reason for those rumors to be made public. And its not bc the Saints are interested. CSP generally keeps a fairly secure war-room wrt draft intentions.

Sean is all about deception - he is House Loki...

Yeah I dont buy the Trask rumors at all. If anything, Paytons trying to get a team to trade back into the first round for him and push a non-QB further down the board. Maybe the Eagles, Broncos or Panthers could trade back into the first round for Trask if they dont get QBs earlier.

Yep yep.

But dammit, I still want Jabrill Cox in the 2nd (assuming he drops) :p. Demario Davis is a beast but one year older & not a whole lot behind him. Baun ... still a question mark.

IMO the meat and potatoes of the draft are rounds 2-4. Winfield Jr, Diggs, Hurts, Dobbins, Claypool & our very own Adam Trautman (3rd rd) taken on Day 2, 3 had impact for their respective teams as rookies.

Day 2 (see Michael Thomas) Saints draft selection could be just as important as that #28 pick.

A QB this year so early is a waste, imho. Roll with Winston or Hill..., or both at the same time if need. Give both a chance to earn, and own, the starting gig. I just dont see the value in a QB so soon, when we have Hill and Winston on the roster, and neither have been handed the keys to the team yet.

Bottom line, lets see what they can do. Our first three rounds, including comp picks, need to be immediate assets, playing assets also. Not projects.

Were going to trade up in the second round. With all the extra picks were getting next year we arent going to care one bit about trading them away. I think well go Zaven Collins in the first and then trade up in the second for a CB.

Maybe but if you Draft Trask in the 2nd round this year and he shows he can do a job even just to the same level as Winston or Hill then you save a fortune in 2022 with his deal being not much above 1ml a year. If the front office think he is a future starter i would argue it makes plenty of sense
