We shall see. Terrific talent though.

I just dont know what were going to do at that other outside CB spot. Jenkins is great but age+money puts him on his way out. Obviously we need to pay Lattimore big money so we need a guy on a cheap rookie contract opposite him.

I havent watched the two Georgia CBs yet but theyre getting first round buzz. Have you watched them at all yet?

As a side note, I was just thinking about how teams meet with prospects who they have no chance of drafting just to do research for the future. We met with Jameis Winston before the 15 draft when he was obviously the #1 pick and somehow hes now going to be the successor to Drew Brees.

We'll see how that works out.

I'm only familiar with Tyson. Good in press coverage but average ball skills. I think he will go up the draft board because he has recovery speed 4.4 guy. Scouts and coaches love speed.

IMO he is a Day 2 selection.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

I keep coming back to DT Levi Onwuzurike. Hes such a perfect fit at 3-technique. Onyemata can be that rare 1-technique who pressures the QB. Onyemata is so freaking strong he has no problem splitting C-G double teams. Onwuzurike has such a deadly quick first step.

Food for thought. A great overview of how critical the draft is to a teams immediate success:

Since adding Ireland, the Saints have hit on nearly all their picks, even though they've overpaid for some - the case to continue to build through the draft...

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

Thought I'd highlight the offensive side a bit.

Nico Collins - WR Michigan. Opted out of the 2020 season due to the pandemic. Big kid (6'4) , good speed (4.55) & catches everything in his zip code. He is another 50/50 ball guy like Callaway with big play ability. Solid showing at the senior bowl.

Possibly a day 3 or 4 selection , which would be tremendous value based on his skill set.

Has there been talk of ever doing another B&G forum member mock draft, where each of us picks a different NFL team? I remember this when I had the Vikings and correctly picked Adrian Peterson.

We all cling to our 15 secs of fame when we were right... ;)

As prized a prospect he was, that was huge for the Vikings to go against conventional wisdom and select a RB that early even then...

Since Jeff Ireland joined the team we have fewer holes each year. Last year we were at the point that we were cutting talented players. Boston Scott is a great example. The rest of the teams are lining up to see what we do on cut day so they can swoop in and grab our castoffs. As I mentioned in another thread Ireland is great but they have to stop moving these rookies to a new position.

The combine would have been last week. The league has already stated that there would be no combine this year at all. Besides, the last thing the NFL wants to do is send hundreds of people into a state that has decided to ignore best practices when it come to COVID control. Their success of the past season was made possible by their concerted effort to be ultra conservative in those matters. No way they suddenly abandon that approach. There will be no combine and that is a simple fact.

Besides, the combines are greatly over-hyped. Beyond the physical exams and the one-on-one interviews there is little to be gained from the Underwear Olympics.

I agree. We definitely need to see what we have. I have heard that TE is the second toughest position to master behind QB. You have to spend time with the offensive line, the receiver corps, and the running backs.

On offense, definitely; you're basically an offensive lineman and a receiver...

Having the best side by side has it's advantages; but you probably get a better take at the Senior Bowl - problem there is that two coaching staffs get exclusive looks at players...

That's what I've heard. The combine has morphed into an event primarily for the media and fans. The main thing the teams get out of it is a networking opportunity.

Re: 2021 NFL Draft: New Orleans Saints

I love S Trevon Moehrig, but I dont think hes actually the best scheme fit if Marcus Williams leaves. We run a single-high safety scheme and the best fit at that FS position is Richie Grant or Jevon Holland.

Scheme fit is king folks. NFL front offices are not looking at some draft nerds big board when they pick the best player available. We picked Cesar Ruiz because he is an incredibly agile center who fits into our zone blocking scheme. He was miscast as a guard this past season because he didnt have the full offseason and preseason to get down all of the protection calls.

Good range & instincts. RG had a very solid, productive senior bowl week. I think he should add more bulk at the next level.

He could be a 2nd/3rd round gem for a team. See Antoine Winfield Jr - Bucs. mid 2nd rounder and immediate impact player.

Actually, Trevon has the makeup of an outstanding Strong Safety as well - my point is he could play either, or be tremendous in a Cover-2...
