Far be it from the NFL to miss a marketing opportunity...

But having guys side-by-side is advantageous for perspective...

Reminds me of the ole Jim Finks adage - if you got two guys on the draft board when you're picking, take the bigger guy...

Was the track 39.5 yards? Was there a back wind? Was it on a competition track or another surface? If you place a golf ball on the course will it roll down toward the finish line?

These are all concerns with isolated pro days that was discussed a few days ago on NFL Radio. As meaningless as the time of a player who has trained specifically to run a 40 sans any football gear is it does have some significance when compared to others under the exact same conditions. The combine does provide this at least.

CB Patrick Surtain ll - Alabama serious skills, high football IQ, form tackler and the ability to make plays on the boundaries.

In case you were wondering, this is the son of former Dolphin legend Patrick Surtain. Also New Orleans/Ednar Karr native.

I get it but I'm putting prospects out there for others on B&G who may not follow a ton of college football :p.

But you never know who may drop to us (see Ramz) @ 28.

I haven't been much of a college football fan since running a bowl pick 'em contest 25-30 years ago. Even then it was the teams and not individual players. Once the Saints draft them then I can learn what I can about them. I don't have much interest in them until they wear the Black and Gold or begin becoming viable fantasy players in the NFL. Sure, there's your Trevor Lawrence types that crossover into the mainstream, but I couldn't name five other players in college ball.

This my favorite thread of the year. After reading all this I not only know what players I want but I'm familiar with the rest of the players entering the league. For example last year before the draft I knew that Callaway and Trautman were going to be productive from their tape and not just their highlights.

Time to dive into CB tape with the Janoris Jenkins cut.

Jaycee Horn is still at the top of my list of CBs, if we pick at No. 28; he could still be there...

I was just watching some more Greg Newsome tape and hes so agile and smooth flipping his hips. Fast too. Perfect complement to Lattimore handling the big physical guys.

*Edited for more detail.

I'll stay close to NOLA here

LSU CB/S Kary Vincent Jr

Back story : He opted out of the 2020 season due to Covid. Nickel corner opposite Stingley in 2020. Slightly undersized but good in man coverage. Vincent is the son of Vincent Jr -former 6 rounder out of TAM and Saints practice squad player.

Projected as a mid to 5th rounder.

Y'all do realize we still have uncertainty at all three of the interior offensive line positions?

Of only two guys in that group that played well last season, we recently released one and the other is named McCoy...

I think its going to be way stronger next season when Ruiz moves to center.

The 40 is important, but as AG pointed out, these are guys running on their home surface they've been training on...

Taking a guy to an unfamiliar place (kinda like a road trip) and scouting reaction, performance is another value of the NFL Combine...

Know some are hoping for Mac Jones to fall for us at the end of Round One...

But I'd like the opportunity for Florida's Kyle Trask or maybe Stanford's Davis Mills with a Round 3 pick...

At this point we should probably just start drafting a QB every year at some point. It may take a decade or more to luck into one that can actually efficiently start an NFL game. At worst we would keep a cheap scout team QB in house.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah - LB Notre Dame

Textbook tacker, good in coverage and arrives with bad intentions :biggun:

He's top rated on a lot of scouts boards. Not sure if he is a "fit" for us but has a good body of work up in South Bend, IN.

Great player, but where does he fit in our defense? We like prototypical LB body types of at least 62 and 230 lbs. If we target any LBs I think itll be Kentuckys Jamin Davis or Jabril Cox.

Think I've found the most unrealistic mock draft tool going. Though I'd be happy enough it it happened.

Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 1 (JAX): Mac Jones, QB, Alabama (A)

Round 3 Pick 1 (JAX): Greg Newsome, CB, Northwestern (A)

Round 3 Pick 3 (HOU): Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington (A+)

Round 3 Pick 34 (COMP): Quinn Meinerz, OG, Wisconsin-Whitewater (A+)

Round 3 Pick 42 (COMP): Caden Sterns, FS/SS, Texas (A+)

Round 4 Pick 4 (HOU): Brady Christianson, OT, BYU (A+)

Round 4 Pick 17 (HOU): TeDarrell Slaton, DT, Florida (A+)

Round 4 Pick 28: Jermar Jefferson, RB, Oregon State (A+)

Round 6 Pick 33 (COMP): Chauncey Golston, DE/OLB, Iowa (A+)

Trade R1.28 to Jags for picks R2.1 and R3.1
Trade R2. 28 to Houston for R3.3 - R4.17

Wouldn't be surprised if Mac Jones fell out of the first round; not sure if I were the Saints GM I'd take Mac Jones if he fell to No. 28...

While I've read some scouts arguments about Levi Onwuzurike not being a first rounder, and there's some validity, he's still has a floor of late first, early second round...

Lee, would you share the URL for the mock draft tool you were using for this haul?

You're probably right XVI.

The shame of it is that for a very brief period we had Kwon A, I saw some of the best linebacker play in a good while from New Orleans.

I just hope we can find another young assassin to pair with DD before his play falls off. Maybe the Saints front office mind set is to find one via Free Agency? Vilma, Fujita, Demario just to name a few.

Maybe Baun breaks out this year assuming he's put in a position to succeed.

BTW, if Cox falls to the second round you gotta give him draft consideration. A lot of LSU players continue to transition well at the next level.

They could throw the prototype measurables out the window for a player of JOKs caliber. Now that I look at it, Kwon Alexander was just about the same size as Owusu-Koramoah (Kwon had about 10 lbs more on him.)

I really need to see how we approach free agency before diving too deep into potential draft prospects.

Chris, I just don't see how we are going to be players in free agency. I realize that this team always has a surprise or two during free agency but this year I will be really surprised if we can bring in another quality vet.

Agree with you 100%. I think its a get under the cap and retain a couple of our own type of year. I expect one splash signing that makes everyone say How did they do it?
