Re: 2014 NFL Draft
I dont think you can take a rookie and sit him 3-4 years these days. With the new rookie pay scale it would be a massive mistake imo. You need to make the most of having a QB on a rookie deal to bring in the vets to help him. The Colts got really lucky that Luck(no pun intended) fell to them as Manning was nearing the end. If you want Bridgewater i think you can tell him he will sit for a year, max 2 years and still have 3 years on the rookie deal

Under the old pay system though. I just dont think the benefit is there in sitting a young QB these days

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Teddy Bridgewater is the only QB IMO that is a first round talent. even then i have ranked at the end of the first top of the second
so thats my BPA question . if we did take a QB i hope it is a ransom situation :) If i were to pick one to sit and develop It would pick between Carr or Zach Sleeper UDFA? Brett Smith QB Wyoming 6'2" 205 4.51 completed 62.6 percent of his passes for 3,375 yards. He threw 29 TDs and and 11 interceptions. In three seasons, Smith threw 76 TDs and only 28 picks. He's accurate, consistent, durable and a pretty good arm. I still believe SP has his goal set already with the kid from Tulane The average yearly salary for a player selected in the first round of the 2013 draft was $2,776,787.70. I've never seen this ESPN show Draft Academy before... Where the hell have I been?! Pierre Desir is looking pretty damn good to me now. He'd fit in considering we already have a Haitian from a small school by the name of Junior Goddamn Galette.

Desir is projected as a 3rd or 4th rounder, I believe...

Funny thing is Pierre actually was recruited by Mizzou, Kansas, & Michigan State(him & dennard would have been something) but academically ineligible. Desir would be a great selection, especially since there wouldnt be a dire need to start him right away & let champ/keenan coach him up, let him play as the nickel then overtake champ at some point in the next 2 years. He may not be there in round 2 when we pick again though. |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
I keep seeing plenty of 'experts' saying/mocking we should get Verrett as a Nickel corner. I really do not see the need myself, surly the reason we matched the Falcons offer sheet to Bush was that when we drop into sub packages it will be a three Safety out there with Vaccaro,Bush and Byrd with Lewis and probably Bailey. I get picking up a tall rangy CB like Baptise,McGill or Desir in rounds 2-4 or a later project pick to play behind White,Robinson and Bailey for a year. I know you can never have enough quality at CB and Linemen but surely there are bigger needs if the BPA is a close call

Any WR 6'0" or shorter that is a speed burner should not be an issue man on man. That why you draft a guy like this. man coverage on the fastest WR of average height. Let Lewis cover the tall guys and get safety help if they have speed also. Verrett is good enough to leave out there alone on the jitter bugs 90% of the time. We do not have a CB that can cover these players. Plus he has no problem in run support and he is a solid tackler. Unlike most of the CB in the mid rounds. Round 2/3 Baptise and McGill are not known for aggressive play and tackling skills are questionable. McGill does have a bit of a injury history also. Baptise is just learning the position plus has the best hands in the group. Desir is a solid gamble. but his shuttle and cone drills were less than impressive. If i was to go with his combine numbers the word explosive would not come to mind. How about the Gaines out of Rice. The kid just looks so smooth but he has aggressiveness issues also. But for the whole package he seems to the best package to gamble on. Phillip Gaines would get my vote followed closely by Baptise then Desir The best DB in 2/3 range is Deon Buccannon Washington St. hands down the best hands of any safety or CB in this range. Baptise is a close second. Aggressiveness is not an issue, you actually need to calm him down a bit. Rounds 4-6 This is the area i think that could give you the biggest bang for your buck. in the next few rounds Walt Aikens and Dontae Johnson. Then you have an injury flier option on Aaron Colvin |

And that Walt Aikens to Keenan Lewis; ironically, Aikens is actually slightly bigger, though as Shakespeare's Caesar would say the he 'has a lean and hungry look' or as Apollo Creed would say "eye of the tiger"... Qualities we must have in our defenders... |

Chip Kelly says Pro Day attendance is about more than workouts | ProFootballTalk
Excerpt: "Instead, Kelly said he likes to visit college campuses so he can get the perspectives of all the people who spent the last few years with these prospects. According to Kelly, finding out how a low-level staffer in a college’s athletics department feels about a star player can go a long way toward judging what kind of person he is." On Super Bowl trip, the Saints unearthed a gem named Jimmy Graham | Saints | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, LA
Excerpt: It was Graham’s coaches at the University of Miami who mentioned his name when the Saints asked them which Hurricanes player was most ready to perform at the pro level, even though he had played only one season of college football — as a backup. A little more than two months later, the Saints used a third-round draft pick, the 95th overall, to acquire Graham. Four years later, he was an Associated Press first-team All-Pro for the first time. And this would reinforce the story in the previous post... |

Great point JP. I heard Attachou on NFL radio this weekend discussing why he's so NFL ready. His college coach was an NFL coach who taught him how to study and prepare. I think this type of insight is often overlooked by the talking heads as many of us.
That's a kid worth trading up for! |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Reports are out Cooks may not be available at our pick. I do not want a wide receiver that we have to hope on, we need a sure thing. I'm hoping for Cooks, Verret, Denard, or Ford.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
The thing to remember in this year's draft is that there are some great CB prospects that'll be available later in the draft and that with the guys we've already got in Keenan Lewis, Champ Bailey, Patrick Robinson and Corey White we can afford to wait to take a cornerback late in the draft that can be developed...which is why I like either Walt Aikens in the third-fourth round or Aaron Colvin in the fifth round...

I've got it figured out 100%. Saints need Beckam in the 1st, Landry in the 2nd, Jeremy Hill in the 3rd, Ego Ferguson in the 4th and Barrow in the 5th. Wait Beckam won't be there. Damn. Lemme rethink. I almost had it figured out. Anyone else like the direction?
