other than that the kid has all the major negatives i look for in a WR. checks off 9 out of 10 boxes. almost a perfect score speed wimp that has no guts and shows little to no real effort to become a well rounded WR Pass - you can find these type of guys all day long on the refuse pile of cut NFL players |

A receiver that drifts in routes doesn't sound like a big deal to the casual fan; but if you're familiar with the timing tree route of the West Coast Offense - you know it's a huge deal...

Quote:
Colorado State's Weston Richburg is a phone both technician. head on a swivel quick feet, good short area mobility and athleticism. The biggest pluses on the kid is Highly intelligent.great intangibles, Biggest knock is strength. sandwiched between two all pro's and some weight training he should be good to go and only get better. He does have a mean streak to his game and likes to finish blocks offs. big plus in my book. Arkansas' Travis Swanson. Best suited for a zone-blocking scheme? dirty player is always a plus in the trenches if he is smart and gets away with it. There in lies the rub. can he handle the mental aspect of the job at the NFL level. never talked to the kid so i can not answer that concern, but at times his play did leave you wondering. Plus he does not seem to play with his head on a swivel as well i would like. But he would be serviceable for sure, But I would always have the RB dbl checking for blitzes and stunts up the middle. much like they had to do with DLP. developmental picks Utah State's Tyler Larsen Ahh a pre season must watch of mine. He did not disappoint. scrappy blue collar mentality that held his own. he loves his pancakes that is for sure. he definitely is among the best at finishing of his blocks at all levels. i actual watched second level defenders pull up and flinch when Tyler had them in his sites. truly fun to watch. man-blocking system? maybe but with his mentality i think he is hard to pigeon hole. Oklahoma's Gabe Ikard i do not get this kid. he may play up to his competition. at times this year he looked like a #1 OC totally ignored by the media much of the season. So focus and comment are my #1 concerns with him. But the skill set is there North Carolina Russell Bodine Now IMO here is a player that must interview well and should have probably stayed in school. Because if your looking for a player that may develop into a starter but at the very least has an excellent shot at developing into a valuable backup at both OG and OC for years to come, this might just be the guy. He needs some positioning coaching without a doubt. he got exposed this year trying to be the heart and soul of the interior line. But as a Jr i have to ask was it a learning experience? or exposure of serious limitations? i am going with a wake up call As you can see i like interior OL that are hard nosed blue collar lunch pail toting players and have a nasty edge to thier game. Spiting on a defenders hand is cool in my book, aka Conrad Dobler mentality.;) But they have to be smart and play with their heads on swivel in order to pick up the complex stunts and blitzes that will have thrown at them at the NFL level. no matter who you draft you will need a safety blanket IMO in the presence of a veteran mentor to back them up and help coach-em up. Goodwin would be an excellent spot player for the job. he played OG for years before switching to OC. he understands what these guys will be trying to do on all levels of the interior line for those young pups here some clips Conrad Dobler yes he was a saint |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Last year was bad enough in regards to the pocket and I really do not want to see Drew getting sandwiched because he has no pocket to step into this year. There isnt many top vets around to bring in that are a lock to play better than what we had last year. Id be hapoy to see Goodwin play out his ladt year with us and try and get another ring while helping his replacement get ready for a year.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Bryan Stork Fla St. OC/OG/OT/TE
versatile player for sure but i worry about injury. foot knee shoulder agility in the phone booth is not his greatest trait. I see a lot of DLP in the kid. teams will stunt him and blitz him all game long. In no way could he start anytime soon. |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Really hope Shazier and Ford are smoke screens; it'll be Jenkins 2.0 with the bowtie and BS game and Ford is Galette which we already have a limited-to-pass-rush linebacker...
Hoping Stork is also a smoke screen as I'd rate Bodine, Larsen, Stone ahead of him and should also be avaiable... Like that we met with Aikens, hoped the Saints identified him to develop behind Keenan Lewis... Josh Walker private meeting is interesting; Walker could be drafted in the sixth round or, more likely, groundwork for an UDFA sigining... Demarcus Lawrence?!? hmm... |

Middle Tennessee State offensive guard Josh Walker is scheduled for a private workout with the Indianapolis Colts' offensive line coach on Monday, according to a league source.
He visits the Colts this week. He also has an April 9 visit with the New Orleans Saints. Walker was an All-Conference USA selection. A durable player who never missed a game, Walker has drawn middle to later-round draft grades despite not being invited to the NFL scouting combine. I know every one loves Calvin and he is a good player but i still do not rate him in the top 20, beauty contest only go so far in book. he has some issues with his game. tackling is one of my pet peeves. knock out hits look good on espn but open field tackling is more important. plus his coverage skills need work. elite tools and potential is what your drafting and i can understand the move. Deone Bucannon is the player i really like. he will go higher than the media say and should be the second or third safety off the board. He is the best SS/FS in the class. i would take him over Calvin or HaHa or Ward. Aaron Colvin on day 3 is a steal if the medicals are good. sit for year on IR as we always do. he slid after first round rating at the beginning of the year to a 2/3 range. even then he was a bargin. |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Award for the most pointless and boring mock draft goes to drafttek.com.
R1 David Yankey OG Good player no doubt but wouldn't play for two years with Grubbs and Evans on roster and plenty of depth at guard available later. R2 Bashaud Breeland CB Not looked at him much but he wasn't one of the 5 CB the saints spoke to yesterday and better players still on the board. R3 Weston Richburg Cant complain here, though I think it will be Stork drafted to compete for the job. R4 Ryan Carrethers DT Just whats needed! So far three of four picks are back ups. Carrethers just needs to beat out Bunkley and Jenkins to get game time. R5 Jack Tyler ILB Lets spend a 5th on a 6ft 230lb (4.8 40) of a ILB that may battle it out to be the 4th option at the position. R5 Matt Patchen R6 Cornelius Lucas Both LOT, no complaints None of the needed WRs or DE/OLB |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Bashaud Breeland please just say no, kid needs serious coaching and that on fundamentals and attitude in run support is timid to say the least. ceiling is not that high for a kid with a low floor to begin with.
Weston Richburg in round 3 would be a steal R6 Cornelius Lucas OT Kansas is an interesting long term project. he has a mean streak to him and from reports he is a hard worker. foot injury needs an eval. 36 3/4" arms? dam talk about a wing span at 6'8. "work in progress" for his entire career is my favorite quote on the kid. at 6-8 he maybe one of those kids that were still growing in college and just now is getting use to to his body. the rest all i can say drafttek geshhh but they due have the best trade chart on the net pass on lack of talent, injury or just major reach factor |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Aaron Murray (ACL) threw 52-of-54 catchable balls at Georgia’s pro day on Wednesday, but NFL.com's Gil Brandt noted that "toward the end of the workout it appeared as if his arm got tired."
Murray's surgically-repaired knee "looked stable" in front of reps from 20 NFL teams. Included in that bunch were the QB coaches from the Cowboys, Jaguars, Chiefs, Saints and Rams. Interestingly, Jacksonville also sent its head coach (Gus Bradley) and general manager (David Caldwell), while St. Louis dispatched director of player personnel Taylor Morton. Brandt did clarify that, despite the fatigue, Murray looked good. "He’s a not-get-too-high or not-get-too-low type of player," the analyst wrote. "If there’s a run on quarterbacks in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, he could wind up being selected in that round." Source: NFL.com |

Actually like Aaron Murray and he's the reason I DON'T trust Mettenberger as he beat him out at Georgia... In truth, see the Saints picking prospects I'm not as high on; there's prospects I like better than they may take; and I'm hoping for a situation like last year with the injuries in that other teams' moves, selections force their hand and they end up with the best player for the team... Last year Saints FO nailed it in the draft, until the last pick at least; this season, I'm hoping for smoke screens and that they take Attaochu and wait for a guy like Aikens in the fourth-fifth round... |

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
After 54 throws his arm got tired??? No crap, Gil Brandt, let's put you out there to throw the ball 54 times and see if your arm doesn't get tired. There have only been a handful of times a QB threw that many times in a game, and they're getting breaks in between series.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft
I'm hoping that any interest in Roby is a smokescreen. That guy is not a football player. If we take a CB early it needs to be Verrett.
|
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Kyle Fuller currently projects on many boards at No. 27...
While I'd be crushed if we don't get Attaochu, could live with Fuller... While I'd clearly disclosed I don't like Ohio St - I'd be very, very disappointed if we took another OSU player like Shazier or Roby... We've had our quota in Will Smith and Malcolm Jenkins; they too were billed as fast, stong athletes; the only speed I ever saw out of either of them was Jenkins catching a player from behind, at our goal line... While I appreciated the effort, I'd rather our defense never let it get to that point - don't get the Saints FO fascination with OSU players; their supposed speed/athleticism never translates to NFL Football Fields... |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Hey Jeanpierre, I'd argue with your use of the word never, but that's really not the point. You brought up two pretty poor examples and if I really had the energy, I'd bet I could match you at least three to one in successful NFL players from tOSU. But really, who cares?
I think you're absolutely right about Roby. I've spent way too many hours watching his play over the past three years and he's about as over rated as it gets. I'm really hoping someone reads the hype and picks him before us so we don't even have to worry about it. Shazier, on the other hand would give us a second Vaccaro on the team as far as lights out hitting goes... for a little while. He'll end up in rehab pretty quickly as pro players are a little larger and more savvy when it comes to crazy heads down body tackling. I'm hoping we don't draft either too. Just wanted to say something about blanket statements. |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Seer1, PM a list of OSU players and I'll respond and you'll see where I'm coming from re: OSU alum when you see the names/expectations...
There's some exceptions, but there mostly role players... |
Re: 2014 NFL Draft
Kyle Fuller injury history, Roby is inconsistent at best. Alvin Scioneaux? UDFA? a bit on the small side have to read up on the kid
