Re: 2015 draft??
this guy will end up at RT and then be be moved to guard when all is said and done. he can not handle a speed rush.
Round 1 - OT La'el Collins, LSU (Sr); 6' 5", 321lbs oh we will be picking hire than this. he is a late 20a pick at best |
Re: 2015 draft??
perfect pick in round 1
Brandon Scherff OT Iowa Second best Cedric Ogbuehi OT Texas A&M Third option Trae Waynes CB Michigan watch the saints pick Melvin Gordon or DeVante Parker or Kevin White |

OT BRANDON SCHERFF IOWA CB Kevin Johnson Wake Forest C HRONISS GRASU OREGON RB JEREMY LANGFORD MICHIGAN STATE WR BRESHAD PERRIMAN CENTRAL FLORIDA not settled on players beyond this ILB A.J. JOHNSON TENNESSEE ? |
Re: 2015 draft??
I'd like to see Lelito play centre the rest of the way to see if we need to draft a centre or not.
I'd like to see the centre of the defensive line filled. Look at it like a central spine of NT and ILB's. If we ca stop teams through the middle and start covering the short passing routes with the ILB it will give the rush that extra second to start getting pressure which inturn helps the secondary. |
Re: 2015 draft??
The Saints need to draft more bread and butter players from well known programs and established schools. Too many reaches and projects and grasping at exotic butterflies. I'm getting tired of all these players from places like John Jay Haircutting School, Walden College and University of Saskatoon. Give me some good old fashioned SEC road graders or cornfed Big 12 plumpers for the O line, and big tough mean defensive guys from proven places like Mizzou, LSU, Bama, Notre Dame, Michigan -- places that actually produce football talent. They've definitely outsmarted themselves with some of these reach picks.
|
Re: 2015 draft??
MLB McKinney, Miss State w/1st Round Pick -- he is a proven commodity for the last 2 years in the SEC West. We pick up MLB DePriest, Bama or MLB A.J. Johnson, Tenn w/4th-to-6th Round Pick (depending on their respective combine results & interviews).
You want to get serious about this linebacker thing, you get some proven run stoppers AND coverage linebackers from the best conference against the best competition on the biggest stages. You want to get serious on building a strong Front 7, you get some proven talent at MLB. Sending out a flyer like that 4th round pick on Fortt to shore up your ILB problems has proven to be both stupid and stupider. We're right in the middle of SEC country who are cranking out proven NFL defensive talent year after year after year, yet we've drafted only 8 SEC players of the 53 players drafted during Payton's tenure since 2006. Of those 8, only Marvin Mitchell (7th Round, 2007) is no longer playing after 7 seasons with 3 teams. Also, if we pick up a CB, S, or WR with any picks that we have to move up to get or that isn't an obvious BPA I'm pretty sure I'll throw my T.V. out the window. |

We maybe the highest picking Division Champ in NFL History Now if the Saints would for once approach the draft with the idea of getting picks instead of giving them away i could see this pick. I like him but in no way is he the talent of a C. J. Mosley. Trade back and pick McKinney maneuver around the second and get additional picks and walk away with my two favs at man CB for that round CB Charles Gaines CB Kevin Johnson CB Kevin White is my third if we were to go CB later in the draft. He is more a slot guy IMO Now I would love it. two rounds and two of the biggest needs filled right out of the gate and extra picks still in our pocket. but alas this is the saints we are talking about here. Drafting to help solve cap issue? nah that concept does not computer. |

I would target in the 20s Benardrick McKinney ILB second option Danny Shelton NT maybe? Also do you draft a RT that can move to OG in the first? I say yes. both OG are now up there in age and there contracts are making them more appealing to be cap causalities. who knows win the starting RT position right out the gate maybe. draft another one to groom and if the football goods are on your side when it is time to switch players all the pieces fall into place with out missing a beat. La'el Collins - he is a homer everyone knows him. RT all the way. better run blocker than pass blocker. has issues with speed and is ok in recovering when beat Ty Sambrailo - Rot all the way also. I like this kid. probably the better pass blocker of the two. I like his recovery when beat. great at pushing the defender wide. better foot work in my opinion. More than anything else he plays nasty. he has a mean streak to him that Collins does not have. their run blocking about the same. hands down the pancake king of the two. ranking difference? colorado st vs lsu. level of competition. In the big picture if the top two are gone i go ROT as a pick towards the future. right now Ty Sambrailo get the nod IMO. Benardrick McKinney ILB/OLB Danny Shelton NT ? Ty Sambrailo ROT/OG Nate Orchard DE/OLB is my a wild card. i want to see how does when the beauty contests starts. senior bowl and combine stuff. as an OLB he has all the skills you look for. but raw raw raw. converted WR. Utah did not know what to do with kid. he has played all over the place because of his skill sets. So there is a reach factor here and some hype but if i had to pick one to keep an eye on it is this kid. opposite of JR on passing downs could be something to see. I like him more than i do Alvin Dupree of Kentucky. just too much hype and ceiling talk for my liking with little to back it all up with plus he is more of a true DE IMO. Nate has the production to justify the hype if that is ever really possible |
Re: 2015 draft??
Let me say that I'm more a SEC Homer more than a LSU homer even as a Louisiana native, resident...
I even pull for the Tide when they appear the best option; though I don't suck the tailpipe for the Crimson and holler "Roll Tide" for entertainment... That said, La'el Collins is a beast and his issues are coachable; great character, tremendous size and strength; he would add an immediate level of toughness to the Saints Offensive Line... |
Re: 2015 draft??
- i still have a solid man cover CB or two at the top of the wish list. For the biggest bang for the buck this team would improve the most with a CB that does not demand safety help the entire game. got some really nice #2 CB prospects in this draft IMO. It would free the safeties up to support elsewhere.
- RT needs a hit for sure. It is right up there with CB. Speed rushers off both ends by the elite defenses in the NFL are killing us. I love Streif but I think the the style of defense played today in the NFL is just a bit to focused on stopping the passer and wears him down. as veteran swing man in the backup role he has a few years left in him. which would be huge upgrade to what we have now and would buy us some time. La'el Collins game reminds me of Streif style. But I do like his size and the flex option he offers of sliding into the guard position when we are ready for a changing of the guard inside. Ty Sambrailo also offer us that flexibility - K.J. Wright is dream pick up for the off season. I want his clone if he resigns with seattle. that is why i am watching Nate Orchard so closely Then i ponder moving Harilson into the middle, who with out a doubt is our best all around LB. but can he man the middle. i think he could. possibly? maybe? We can get all three in the first 3 rounds i think, |
Re: 2015 draft??
Vic Beasley!!!!!!
|
Re: 2015 draft??
I'd like to see La'el Collins in the first round. Put him next to Terron Armstead and the keft side of the line would be amazing. Kenny Hilliard in the 6th or 7th would be great unless we could get Hilliard as a free agent. How can the Saints be one of the only NFL teams with no LSU payers? After Cooks last year our draft was terrible. We could've drafted Jarvis Landry and Ego Ferguson last year. Both currently are solid starters at need positions.
|
Re: 2015 draft??
I'd like not to draft a cornerback with an early round pick because our talent evaluators seem incapable of making the right selection...
The only success we've had was in free agency periods which I'd prefer that route regarding cornerback, having a proven commodity... I'd like to see us focus on the front lines, offensive and defense (front seven) - we no longer control nor or tough enough on the lines... |

Re: 2015 draft??
Latest draft
Round 1: Vic Beasley - OLB - Clemson - stud at a position of need, that's all Round 2: TJ Cummings - OT - Pittsburgh - fell to our spot in round 2. Strief is getting up there and we could use a new bookend across from Armstead coming up, tho Strief is still reliable. Round 3: Tre Jackson - OG - Florida State - mammoth OG, mauler in the run game. Good in pass protection, but not great. But he can get there! He can replace Grubbs or Evans, then we'd have four guys in the Oline 25 years old or under Round 4: Kevin Johnson - CB - Wake Forrest - smaller school for D1 big boys. Last two seasons has had 25 PBUs and 6 INTs. Read some nice things and figured in the 4th, he'd be a good pick and it's an area of need for us Round 5: Josh Shaw - CB - USC - was suspended most the season due to lying about hurting his leg (said he jumped out a window to save his drowning nephew or something). He gets his hands on a lot of balls and is value in the 5th Round 6: AJ Johnson - ILB - Tennessee - was thrilled he fell this far. Stud MLB who is all over the field. Just get the job done Round 7: Ray Drew - DE - Georgia - some Dline depth, tho we have a lot of young talent at the DE position as it is |

Re: 2015 draft??
Hey Brett Perriman former Saints WR was from Miami I think. Any relation to current Hurricane LB Perriman? Anyway my take. La'el Collins in the 1st-put him next to Armstead and the line's looking good. La'el is a premier left guard and run blocker. Just what we need. All D the rest of the way until the 6th round where we take LSU RB Kenny Hilliard. We've had good success with Hilliards right? We can't let him go somewhere else(leading rusher in LA high school history-more yds than Fournette), especially when we can get him late. We are one of the few teams in the league with no LSU players. LSU has more players in the league than any other college. The fans love it and they're great players. It's win win.

I can't see Collins being in the board. These early mocks etc have the Saints picking in the 10-13 range but If we win this week and the clowns loose as expected I can't see the team letting the division slip. We will pick 22+ and the top OT/OLB will be gone

Re: 2015 draft??
This is quite interesting
14 for '14: Top small-school prospects Mike Huguenin College Football 24/7 writer While the vast majority of players selected every year will come from the FBS ranks, there still were 26 non-FBS players selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. Included in that total was one FCS player selected in the second round, Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. And there were four non-FBS players in the third round. As part of our "14 for '14" series, here's a look at 14 of the best small-school prospects for the 2015 draft; all are seniors, and each will be on scouts' radar this fall. Bryan Bennett, QB, Southeastern Louisiana Particulars: 6-foot-3, 205 pounds Buzz: Bennett's name should be familiar to fans, especially to those who follow the Pac-12: He was the quarterback Marcus Mariota beat out to earn the starting job at Oregon in 2012. Bennett was Mariota's backup that fall before transferring to Southeastern Louisiana last season. The junior threw for 3,165 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 1,046 yards and 16 touchdowns (a single-season school record) for the Lions last fall. Bennett, who led the Lions to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs, was the Southland Conference Player of the Year. Scouts will be looking to see if he can improve his accuracy this fall; he completed 61 percent of his passes last season. Quinn Epperly, QB, Princeton Particulars: 6-foot-3, 220 pounds Buzz: Epperly is the reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and won the award in his first full season as the starter. Epperly completed 68 percent of his passes and threw for 2,137 yards and 25 TDs (against just three interceptions) last season; he also ran for 570 yards and 18 TDs in 10 games. Epperly, who is left-handed, accounted for at least three touchdowns in each of the Tigers' last nine games in 2013 and completed an NCAA-record 29 consecutive passes in a win over Cornell. Princeton scored 50 points five times last season; the Tigers had scored 50 points five times in previous 48 seasons. David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa Particulars: 6-foot-3, 225 pounds Buzz: Johnson is heading into his third season as a full-time starter for the Panthers; he was a part-time starter as a redshirt freshman in 2011. Scouts like his size and speed combo (he has been clocked in at sub-4.5 seconds in the 40). Johnson also is proficient as a receiver, but his main talent is as a runner; he will run behind a good offensive line this fall and should easily top 1,000 yards for the third consecutive season. Jake Kumerow, WR, Wisconsin-Whitewater Particulars: 6-foot-5, 195 pounds Buzz: Kumerow has good size and good hands and is a deep threat for the Warhawks, the reigning Division III national champions. He also is the son of former NFL first-round pick Eric Kumerow; the nephew of former NFL first-rounder John Bosa; and the cousin of Ohio State star sophomore defensive end Joey Bosa. Jake Kumerow began his career at Illinois but transferred to Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater before the 2012 season. Last season, Kumerow had 77 catches for 1,331 yards (17.3 yards per reception) and 19 TDs; he had six games with multiple TD receptions and had five 100-yard games, including a 103-yard, two-touchdown performance in a 52-14 rout of Mount Union (Ohio) in the Division III title game. Cole Manhart, OT, Nebraska-Kearney Particulars: 6-foot-6, 300 pounds Buzz: Manhart will be a three-year starter at left tackle for the Lopers, a Division II program. Manhart is big, strong -- he can squat 500 pounds -- and plays with a mean streak, but he's also nimble enough to play H-back in what Nebraska-Kearney calls its "hammer package." Manhart was one of four Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association players named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association last season; two of the other first-team members -- Pittsburg State wide receiver John Brown and Lindenwood cornerback Pierre Desir -- were taken in the 2014 NFL Draft. Manhart was the only unanimous selection on last season's All-MIAA first team. Tre McBride, WR, William & Mary Particulars: 6-foot-2, 205 pounds Buzz: McBride will be a three-year starter for the Tribe and is coming off a season in which he had 63 receptions for 801 yards and five TDs. McBride also served as the Tribe's kick returner and averaged 27.5 yards per return. He has 15 TD receptions in the past two seasons and runs well for a guy his size (he has been clocked sub-4.4 in the 40). MyCole Pruitt, TE, Southern Illinois Particulars: 6-foot-3, 250 pounds Buzz: He will be a four-year starter for the Salukis and has been remarkably consistent, catching between 43 and 48 passes for 562 to 601 yards in each of the past three seasons. His touchdown total has been consistent, too, going from three in 2011 to four in 2012 to five last season. He was ranked third nationally in receptions (48) among tight ends in the FCS last season despite missing two games with a broken leg. He plays in a run-oriented offense and is a solid blocker. He also has H-back potential at the next level. Kevin Rodgers, QB, Henderson State Particulars: 6-foot-3, 215 pounds Buzz: Rodgers has been a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy -- which goes to the top player in Division II -- in each of the past two seasons. Last season, he threw for 4,807 yards with 40 TDs and 12 picks, and completed 68.95 percent of his passes. He threw for 4,002 yards and 41 TDs in 2012. He has thrown for at least 400 yards nine times in the past two seasons and has 18 300-yard games in that span. Rodgers, who already has graduated and is working on his MBA, holds school records for passing yards, touchdown passes and completions. Fans will get a chance to see Rodgers on the CBS Sports Network on Sept. 18, when Henderson State (which is located in Arkadelphia, Arkansas) plays host to Southeastern Oklahoma. De'Ante "Pop" Saunders, CB, Tennessee State Particulars: 5-foot-11, 200 pounds Buzz: Saunders was a two-year starter at safety at Florida before he was kicked off the team late in the 2012 season. He had four interceptions, 39 tackles and nine pass breakups for Tennessee State last season as a cornerback, but his best pro position might be safety. Saunders -- who started as a true freshman at Florida -- lacks elite speed, but he has great instincts, is active in run support and can lay the lumber. Saunders has NFL talent, but red flags are flying with regard to his character. Jaquiski Tartt, SS, Samford Particulars: 6-foot-1, 218 pounds Buzz: Tartt has good size and is extremely active in run support; he also runs well for his size (he has been clocked as fast as 4.46 in the 40). He had 98 tackles last season for the Bulldogs -- the year the team won the Southern Conference. He also had one interception, which he returned for a score, and nine pass breakups. Tartt has made 192 tackles and scored three defensive touchdowns in the past two seasons. The safety only played one season of high school football in Mobile, Alabama. Lynden Trail, OLB, Norfolk State Particulars: 6-foot-7, 260 pounds Buzz: Trail is an intriguing prospect because of his size, production (he had 8.5 sacks and 94 tackles last season) and background (he began his college career at Florida and was considered one of the nation's top high school defensive ends at powerhouse Miami Washington). He also had 12.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, two blocked kicks, 10 quarterback hurries and eight pass breakups last season. He has 14.5 sacks and 29.5 tackles for loss in two seasons with the Spartans. Trail has gained more than 40 pounds since graduating from high school. Of note: He didn't play at all at Florida -- he redshirted as a true freshman in 2010 and did not seeing any time in 2011 before deciding to move on. But as he has gained weight, he has made big strides on the field. His size and pass-rush skills are notable. Charles Tuaau, DT, Texas A&M-Commerce Particulars: 6-foot-5, 310 pounds Buzz: Tuaau, a native of Hawaii, made a huge impact in his first season with the Division II Lions after transferring from a California junior college; he had 12.5 sacks and 25.5 tackles for loss -- staggering numbers for a nose tackle -- in garnering Lone Star Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors last fall. Tuaau signed with Hawaii out of high school but ended up at Pasadena City College in 2011. He played for Riverside community college in 2012 then signed with Oregon State in February 2013. But he didn't meet OSU's academic requirements and ended up at Texas A&M-Commerce (known as East Texas State until 1996), which is located in a town of population 9,000 about an hour northeast of downtown Dallas. His disruptive nature will intrigue NFL scouts. Zach Wagenmann, DE, Montana Particulars: 6-foot-3, 250 pounds Buzz: Wagenmann is easy to spot when you watch a Grizzlies game on TV -- he's the guy whose long blond locks are flowing out of his helmet when he is running down opposing quarterbacks. He will be a three-year starter for one of the best FCS programs in the nation and has 20 sacks and 29.5 tackles for loss in his career. Wagenmann had 8.5 sacks, 64 tackles and three forced fumbles last season. His pass-rush prowess is what has garnered notice from scouts. He didn't get serious about football until he was a junior in high school, instead concentrating on basketball. Xavier Williams, DT, Northern Iowa Particulars: 6-foot-4, 311 pounds Buzz: Williams is big, physical and active. The then-junior had 74 tackles last season to go with 5.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss; he also blocked five kicks in the 2012 season, one of which occurred against Wisconsin. Williams is a former high school wrestler who does a good job with leverage considering his height. |

Cole Manhart is one of the guys I've been following; want to see him at the combine in some of the skills drills...
Lorig has been an utter bust - I'd take a look at bringing in Northern Iowa's David Johnson; if Austin Johnson is unable to recover at least you'd have one Big Johnson to replace the Broken Johnson... |

Wanted Richburg for Center but he went too early in the 2nd. Other than Cooks (who I didn't think we be there at 26 and didn't see us moving up that far), I thought we'd get some nice WRs much later. Cooks was the only one to trade up for, I thought. My other 2 favorites were CB Verrett and LB Borland. If we hadn't traded up for WR, I was hoping for overlooked Landry in the 3rd and hoped for overlooked Abbredis in the 5th and Janis maybe in the 7th or and (lo and behold) they were both there then and Green Bay took both. GB isn't afraid to take white WRs. I'm satisfied with Lelito (and wondering why he's not starting after seeing Goodwin allowing a sack and getting pushed back on some run plays last game). Could not figure out why we didn't get OL depth, especially ROT. Harris was terrible again on the pass. Now I hope for ILB CB QB OLB ROT G/C |

Meant to post this as a Trade Back Alternative... Round 1 - Trade Back Round 2 - NT Malcolm Brown, Texas (Jr); 6' 4", 325lbs Round 2 - LB Jake Ryan, Michigan (Sr); 6' 3", 235 lbs Round 3 - FS Kurtis Drummond, Michigan St (Sr); 6' 1", 200 lbs Round 3 - OG Jarvis Harrison, Texas A & M (Sr); 6' 3", 325 lbs Round 4 - LB A. J. Johnson, Tennessee (Sr); 6' 2", 242 lbs Round 5 - OL B. J. Finney, Kansas (Sr); 6' 4", 303 lbs Round 6 - DE Henry Anderson, Stanford (Sr); 6' 7", 295 lbs Round 7 - OL Eric Lefeld, Cincinnati, (Sr); 6' 6", 315 lbs At the end of the day, we've got to get better, younger, faster stronger, affordable personnel on the offensive line and and in the defensive front seven, and really up the middle; and we're gonna need more than seven picks to get it started... Have had serious doubts about the Jarius Byrd signing with regards to health and I don't see that changing... Don't list a CB because rather see us sign a proven, healthy veteran as we did with Lewis to complement same... Gotta feeling Loomis will end up re-signing Roll Tide, so that's why I didn't list a RB, which I believe should be taken in later rounds if we did so... Bunkley looks done, so NT to rotate with Jenkins, who I think is still injured, would do wonders to shore up the front... We need some depth at DE, especially with Hicks possibly leaving soon... |

Haven't been impressed at all with him... Once he was back, he wasn't playing until Austin Johnson (nice find) got hurt that he saw more playing time and then he had some gaffes... The fumble in the Green Bay game... Missed lead blocks that saw Roll Tide get busted in the backfield... We should have been signing younger offensive linemen, and defensive front seven, maybe younger cornerbacks with the energy we put into signing BigFoot... Not rooting against the guy, just not impressed with the money we committed to a free agent full back... |
