Re: 2015 draft??
Reality setting in that we will geaux another year with a difference maker at OLB (Vic Beasley)...
Unless we can make a trade with Washington and Beasley falls there for the fifth pick, it's not gonna happen... Worse case is Beasley falls to Atlanta... What sucks about the Week 17 game is that Tampa whipped our arses and then through the game... We should have just let the Tampa Bay game geaux... http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/premi...t.php?d=zkjmox 013 (R1, 13) OL Brandon Scherff, Iowa, 6' 5", 319 lbs. 044 (R2, 12) LB Stephone Anthony, Clemson, 6' 3", 243 lbs. 075 (R3, 11) OL Ali Marpet, Hobart, 6' 4", 307 lbs. 109 (R4, 13) CB Eric Rowe, Utah, 6' 1", 205 lbs. 140 (R5, 12) WR Austin Hilll, Arizona, 6' 2", 210 lbs. 171 (R6, 11) LB Davis Tull, Chattanooga, 6' 2", 210 lbs. 205 (R7, 13) OL Mark Glowinski, West Virginia, 6' 4", 307 lbs. Still like what fell, we address some critical needs and we get depth, youth on the offensive line... This draft reinforces that we have to find a way to get some room under the cap and get some help... :bng: |
Re: 2015 draft??
Chances are we will get our hands on a good OL or pass rusher. Worst case scenario we have a good position to trade from and get a additional pick later on.
|
Re: 2015 draft??
OL Brandon Scherff, or La'el Collins
huge cap friendly pick ups. plus i have to put Jr on the back burner for Washington. Perfect trade bait is either Grubbs or Evens. Washington needs either guards. heck they need a center too If we draft one of the two best ROT?LG prospects in the draft why not pick up the phone to Washington and move up in the second? RT/LT Jake Fisher still my fav for RT OG/OC Ali Marpet come on Hobort on OL just fits OG/OT Sean Hickey is on my radar. need to see what he does on his pro day. |

Harold is the only one we'd have a chance, but Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Arizona, Kansas City are sure to snag him mid-Round 1 where he should fall... Mauldin could geaux in the late second round... Hodges is a real question as he didn't have a great combine other than interviews... Tull is being mocked as high as the third round, I like in 5-6 round... Ryan is a great football player with limited athleticism, like him better as a two down thumper... Washington is an intriguing prospect; he needs a year in an NFL weight lifting program though... Gregory, Ray and Dupree just don't like; not just because of scheme, but just feeling bust with them because they're undersized and are third down specialists... Know we were just spit-ballin', but I'd really like to geaux to the Redskins and swap first rounders, for Junior Galette... |

Re: 2015 draft??
i am not impressed with most of the OLB in the draft. the ones i like have red flags off the field or injury issues.
so i am leaning more to ILB 3 down Eric Kindricks - out of the box plug in 34 ILB? lacks the bulk but instincts, speed and ball-skills are off the chart booby prize Stephone Anthony- #1 upside ILB with 3 down possibilities 2 down thumpers right now Benardrick McKinney - size alone but needs work promise as a 3 down booby prize Taiwan Jones - miss McKinney then he is a solid booby prize. might only be a two down thumper Other we have not talked about really Trey Flowers (DE, Arkansas) - i just keep going back to him over and over again. i think he can develop into a solid three-down player in the NFL. Preston Smith (DE, Mississippi State) is another option here Ifo Ekpre-Olomu (CB, Oregon) - day 2 pick to man the slot might be the injury steal of the draft. round 4? Blake Bell (TE, Oklahoma) - interesting day three prospect to develop? 6’6″ 260 4.80 in the 40, 4.32 and 11.81 shuttles? sure hands and shown improvement as a blocker. lets bum Jimmy out in two years and make him a WR lol |

Agree with you about offensive line. What team needs is players with attitude on defense even more. I get it, character counts but there has to be players out there that don't get arrested and play with a mean streak on the field

Re: 2015 draft??
Just seen Jeff Duncans mock
Trae Wayne Does anyone actually see the top CB dropping to 13?. There are always teams desperate for secondary help willing to reach. HT:*6'0"*WT:*186LBS. SCHOOL:*Michigan St. ARM LENGTH:*31" HANDS:*8 1/4" COMBINE STATS 40 YARD DASH:*4.31 SEC BENCH PRESS:*19 REPS VERTICAL JUMP:*38.0 INCH BROAD JUMP:*122.0 INCH 3 CONE DRILL:*7.06 SEC 20 YARD SHUTTLE:*4.39 SEC ANALYSIS Strengths Good length. Loves to compete in man-to-man and is mentally tough. Asked to play on an island and did so successfully. Allowed just two touchdowns over last two seasons. Bump-and-run specialist. Recovery speed to make up for separation. Maintains feel for vertical threats and uses his frame to pin wideouts against sideline. Excels in deep, man coverage and can be smothering. Acceleration and length to contest any throw on the field. Well-coached and plays with proper leverage in coverage. Can be intimidating and disruptive against finesse receivers. Drives forward with burst and runs through targets, jarring balls loose. Wrap-up tackler who understands his responsibility against the run. Weaknesses "Grab, grab, grab!" Transition to a less hands-on cover style will take time. Would grab opposing wide receivers at top of route at times rather than trusting length and ball skills. Penalized nine times over last two seasons. Tight through hips and tends to play upright. Struggles to mirror and match against quickness. Hips and feet get clumsy in transition. Allows brief separation window at the top of short and intermediate routes. Fails to sink hips to stop, causing balance issues. Sometimes plays with blinders on and anticipation is below average. Slow to process combinations. Sources Tell Us "I didn't think anyone had a better combine than (Trae Waynes). He was faster than I thought and looked great in the drills. He's the top corner and I don't think it's close." -- NFC director of personnel NFL Comparison Antonio Cromartie Bottom Line He's a bump-and-run cornerback with the length, deep speed and confidence to handle himself down the field against speed. Waynes plays too handsy for NFL officials and that could show up on Sundays due to his lack of great feet and suddenness. He needs technique work and could be inconsistent early on, but he has a very high floor. Nate Orchard OLB HT:*6'3"*WT:*250LBS. POSITION:*DE SCHOOL:*Utah ARM LENGTH:*33 3/4" HANDS:*10 1/8" COMBINE STATS 40 YARD DASH:*4.80 SEC VERTICAL JUMP:*31.5 INCH BROAD JUMP:*115.0 INCH 3 CONE DRILL:*7.28 SEC 20 YARD SHUTTLE:*4.43 SEC 60 YARD SHUTTLE:*12.06 SEC ANALYSIS Strengths Good foot quickness. Tackles struggle to handle his inside move. Explodes out of a track stance on passing downs. At his best as a squared-up rusher with a two-way go. Utilizes unique stutter step combined with burst to beat tackles inside. Seamless coordination of hands and feet as a rusher. Smooth hips to backpedal into space or turn and run laterally. Stronger at the point of attack than given credit for and offers scheme versatility. Shows juice upfield out of stand-up position. Still improving and learning his craft. Has ability to discard and make plays against the run. Has upper-body flexibility to beat blocker with shoulder turn. Still improving, but shows ability to use hands to help him win quickly. Played well against Stanford LT Andrus Peat. Weaknesses Not much of a factor against the run. Will get engulfed at the point of attack. Scouts say he lacks "lead-dog aggressiveness." Not consistent enough as edge setter and rarely looks to lay a shoulder into fullbacks and tight ends coming across to block him. Wins with foot quickness and effort over skill and counter moves. Has a mechanical spin move. Short strider who doesn't gain as much ground around the edge as expected. A little tight in hips and rounds the corner rather than turns it. Only one year of big production. Sources Tell Us "When I'm on the road, I hear other scouts tell me they think he's tough enough but his tape doesn't show it. He's a finesse player with some a high ceiling as a pass rusher, but he could easily bust out." -- NFC director of college scouting NFL Comparison Trent Cole Bottom Line Teams will either be wary of Orchard's single season of sack dominance or they will view it as an indicator of growth and potential stardom. Orchard will be below average against the run, but his draft grade and paycheck will be tied to his athleticism and pass-rush talent. If he can develop counter moves, he has big potential. If not, he might be nothing more than a middling, situational pass rusher. Ali Marpet G HT:*6'4" WT:*307LBS. SCHOOL:*Hobart & William Smith ARM LENGTH:*33 3/8" HANDS:*10" COMBINE STATS 40 YARD DASH:*4.98 SEC BENCH PRESS:*30 REPS VERTICAL JUMP:*30.5 INCH BROAD JUMP:*108.0 INCH 3 CONE DRILL:*7.33 SEC 20 YARD SHUTTLE:*4.47 SEC ANALYSIS Strengths Good foot quickness with ability to reach and hook opponents. Quick out of stance and into defender. Usually the low man using hips and arm extension to lock out and control his man. Has leg drive to drive his man backward and finish. Consistent with hand placement in run and pass. Plays with advanced technique for a Division III player. Weaknesses Played against inferior athletic competition and wasn't challenged enough. Gets caught leaning and lunging. Lets inferior athletes get to his edge. Average with redirect. Has short legs. Needs to add more thickness through entire body. NFL Comparison Eric Kush Bottom Line Has the body type and movement of a zone-scheme center with guard potential. Technically sound and has athleticism to become an NFL starter, but must prove he can handle the substantial jump in power and speed he will see. Lorenzo Doss CB HT:*5'10"* WT:*182LBS. SCHOOL:*Tulane ARM LENGTH:*29 3/4" HANDS:*9" COMBINE STATS 40 YARD DASH:*4.50 SEC BENCH PRESS:*9 REPS VERTICAL JUMP:*33.5 INCH BROAD JUMP:*115.0 INCH 3 CONE DRILL:*7.20 SEC 20 YARD SHUTTLE:*4.26 SEC 60 YARD SHUTTLE:*11.90 SEC ANALYSIS Strengths Smooth trigger with limited stall at the top of his backpedal when firing forward. Can gather himself quickly to change direction. Takes few false steps and is able to sink hips and hit brakes quickly when called on. Former high school wide receiver with reliable hands and outstanding balls skills. Looks to attack the throw as often as he can and is rarely outmuscled on 50/50 balls. Has 15 career interceptions in three years, including two for touchdowns in 2013. Above-average instincts and feel for what quarterback will look for on third down. Athletic with the hips and feet to act on instincts and ball skills. Called a "workaholic" by teammates. Plays through pain and rarely misses practice. Weaknesses Fell in love with the "big play" after 2013 and took too many chances in 2014. Desire to challenge every throw leads to undisciplined, lazy technique at times. Plays tall in backpedal. Takes aggressive, high-risk angles in attempt to undercut throws and make the interception. Will likely always be a feast or famine cornerback as a pro. Gets too committed to recover effectively against a double move. Relies on grabbing and downfield mauling that won't be allowed in NFL. Atrocious outing vs. Rutgers, giving up six catches for 162 yards and three touchdowns. Inconsistent play speed on tape. Inconsistent demeanor in run support. Can be bullied by bigger wide receivers at the point of attack. NFL Comparison Buster Skrine Bottom Line Doss is a thin but functionally strong cornerback with an overriding desire to compete for every ball thrown his way, which led to 33 passes defensed and 15 interceptions during his three-year stint at Tulane. He wasn't challenged very often in 2014 and his long speed will be revealed in his workouts, but his ball skills and ability to flip the field should gain him additional attention from general managers. Xavier Williams DT HT *6'2"*WT:*309LBS. POSITION:*DT SCHOOL:*Northern Iowa ANALYSIS Strengths Former wrestler who plays with low center of gravity and displays natural strength and leverage. Plays with consistent effort level and dominated a lower level of competition. Tough guy. Plays with a strong base and can absorb and withstand double teams without giving up much ground. Tenacious pass rusher who fights hard to get to quarterback. Weaknesses As a pass rusher, stays centered to offensive linemen and doesn't get to the edge often enough. Slow to react off snap, causing him to get hung up against zone blocks. Wasn't able to step his game up when taking on tougher competition. Nothing special about athleticism or burst off snap. Bottom Line High-cut developmental prospect at defensive tackle who plays with the motor and toughness that teams will love, but he is still in need of more seasoning and growth. As he competes against better competition, he could show quite a bit of improvement Marcus Murphy*RB HT:*5'8"*WT:*193LBS. POSITION:*RB SCHOOL:*Missouri ARM LENGTH:*31" HANDS:*8 5/8" COMBINE RESULTS 40 YARD DASH:*4.61 SEC BENCH PRESS:*11 REPS VERTICAL JUMP:*29.0 INCH BROAD JUMP:*109.0 INCH 20 YARD SHUTTLE:*4.40 SEC ANALYSIS STRENGTHS Has the foot quickness and acceleration to make something out of nothing when called upon as a runner. Needs to play in space, but has quality traits for a runner, despite size. Has enough speed to turn the corner and hit a big run down the sideline. In passing game, mismatches inside 'backers with razor-sharp cuts to the sideline, creating easy throws for the quarterback. Looks to adjust his routes over the top of coverage if quarterback scrambles. Has excellent hands and concentration to finish a catch despite impending contact. Celebrated kick- and punt-return specialist with seven career return touchdowns at Missouri. WEAKNESSES Needs to improve his reads and feel on stretch plays flowing outside. Small running back with limited amount of carries he can offer in a given game. Tends to float in space as a receiver rather than working back to the ball. Doesn't make the sharp, downhill cuts expected from him as a running back. Missed 2011 with a shoulder injury. He tries to get in the way as a pass blocker, but lacks bulk and strength to be trusted with blitz pickup on next level. NFL COMPARISON Dexter McCluster BOTTOM LINE All-purpose running back with a lean frame and a big heart. Showed consistency of effort and production during his time at Missouri. His value as a runner is limited due to his size, but he has the potential to become a legitimate target out of the backfield and might warrant some reps in camp as a slot receiver. Murphy can step in and immediately challenge for the top spot as a kickoff and/or punt returner. Greg Mancz C Sounds interesting Late in the draft, the Saints like to take developmental types like Mancz. A multi-year captain with a 3.7 GPA, he’ll fit right in with the Saints’ veteran line and could develop into a starting center in time. Here’s all you need to know about Mancz: He’s the first offensive lineman in the history of the Mid-American Conference to be named the league’s MVP. ANALYSIS Strengths Technician. Proper hand placement in pass protection and as a run blocker. Uses his understanding of positioning, angles and leverage to open running lanes. Allows defenders to run themselves into the wrong gap. Rarely out of position and has plus balance at impact. Displays very little wasted motion. Breaks down in space and finds target when pulling or climbing to second level. Plays with great confidence and composure. Can sink hips and drop anchor against bull-rush. Well-schooled with excellent football intelligence. Team leader. Has played tackle, guard and center and is proficient snapping from shotgun. Weaknesses Doesn't play with desired power. Needs more bulk and strength in lower body. Usually gets movement on nose tackle with help from a double team. Questionable hand strength to latch on and contain defender. Won't stay glued to second-level block as consistently as expected. Didn't face size and power in the MAC that he will see in NFL. NFL Comparison J.C. Tretter Bottom Line He needs a year in the weight room, but Mancz is ahead of the game in terms of his understanding of offensive-line play. After playing all three positions, Mancz offers the type of versatility that teams covet, but his average play strength could be a draft-day counter to his versatility. Based on Mancz's tape and history, one would have to expect that he will find a way to succeed in the league. |
Re: 2015 draft??
Please .. not another CB in the 1st round. I like Trae ... actually I like him a LOT but I hope we go OL , then LB in the draft. Hopefully we can find a solid #2 corner in FA (Culliver, Buster Skrines, Jackson, Cox).
Corners coming out of college are so risky. |
Re: 2015 draft??
There are 6 foot and bigger corners that can be drafted in the later rounds that could make an impact with this team so I really hope they address OL and LB earlier in the draft this year

Re: 2015 draft??
McKinney reminds me of Hawthorne. While the kid is athletic, I'm not sure he can cover well enough.
He'll slip into the 3rd round. |
Re: 2015 draft??
I think Kendricks might be the type of ILB we need next to Lofton. The guy can move sideline to sideline and cover.
Eric Kendricks*(ILB) HT:*6'0"*WT:*232LBS. POSITION:*ILB SCHOOL:*UCLA ARM LENGTH:*31" HANDS:*9 5/8" COMBINE STATS 40 YARD DASH:*4.61 SEC BENCH PRESS:*19 REPS VERTICAL JUMP:*38.0 INCH BROAD JUMP:*124.0 INCH ANALYSIS Strengths Confident with a downhill, attacking mindset. Good feet to slide, follow and burst to developing run plays. Can turn and chase sideline to sideline. Diagnoses quickly and attacks run fits while avoiding blockers. Is always around the play. One of the most productive tacklers in college football over the last three years. Outstanding at sinking hips and changing direction. Exhibits good play speed and is able to cover man-to-man in space. Good zone awareness and makes plays on the ball. Weaknesses Despite the high tackle numbers, doesn't meet ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage as much as he could. Could use more weight on his frame. Will drop his head at times when meeting ball carrier in the hole. Wasn't much of a factor as a blitzer. Sources Tell Us "His production and character makes it easy for a scout to bang the table for him. The only blow-back I anticipate in my room is regarding his size, but if you stick him at the WILL spot, I don't think it matters." -- NFC West regional scout NFL Comparison Wesley Woodyard Bottom Line Kendricks is an intelligent leader with high football character. Scouts don't see the same explosiveness in Eric as they see in his brother Mychal (Eagles LB), but they do see the same level of production and desire. Eric Kendricks plays with plus instincts against the run and pass. He has the athleticism and demeanor to be an impactful, productive outside linebacker in a 4-3 for years to come. |
Re: 2015 draft??
Kendricks may go late 1st, early 2nd

Maybe a second, probably a third. It wouldn't even surprise me if it was less or not sorted till next year. I cant understand whats taking so long to sort it out the are not saying they didnt do it. The leagues discipline system is a joke. Players getting investigated and possibly suspended after the courts/attorneys decide there is no case to answer. How can the league think its allowed to discipline a man when the courts dont? |

NFL draft: Year off a blessing in disguise for Belsterling
Taylor Belsterling's body and ability have finally caught up with his dream to play pro football. He's no longer that tall, scrawny 165-pound receiver who literally just played his senior year at Catholic. Now a muscular 204 pounds, the 6-foot, 4-inch Belsterling has caught the attention of several NFL teams because of his size, speed, hops and hands. blah blah blah At Troy's pro day earlier this week, Belsterling ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.5 seconds, had a vertical jump of 36 inches and board jumped 10 feet, three inches. Belsterling also finished the L drill in less than seven seconds at 6.97. He was one of two athletes out of 19 Monday to do achieve that with former Troy receiver Chandler Worthy being the other. Worthy, who is several inches shorter and 31 pounds lighter than Belsterling, completed the L drill in 6.94 seconds. blah blah blah "The (New Orleans) Saints have had three different guys evaluate him," Turk said. "I think the (New York) Giants have shown a lot of interest. That's the way it appears anyway. Those two stick out, but there are others." NFL draft: Year off a blessing in disguise for Belsterling ignore the blah blah blah it is a good read. |
