You would take PJ that high? I like PJ, but id Rather have Trae Waynes there. Daniel Jeremiah was just studying him this week & was tweeting out some thoughts...one of which was that he believed Waynes is better than any CB in last years draft(ie: Dennard, Fuller, Verrett, Roby, etc)

Thats pretty high praise....i'll take that all day. & for a #2 CB behind Keenan makes it even sweeter.

Biggest positive on the kid is he's not handsy, doesnt have to rely on grabbing & pulling his matchup. I saw a video the other day of him shadowing the wr step for step. Quite impressive & arrow is only pointing up for him.

I dont exactly have a favorite prospect id like to have with our 1st round pick, but he's definitely in the top bunch. Day 2 would definitely have to be Perryman with a few close seconds.

Should have stated that's what I picked on the Fanspeak Draft Simulator...

Shaq was gone...

PJ has a larger body of work than Waynes and he always has the 'big game within the big game'...

I'd probably try to move down four to five picks and pick up an additional pick...

I enjoy talking about the draft.... but I have come to the conclusion that until the Free Agency period is over it's pointless. We might need a CB or ILB right now, but in a few months we could pick one up via FA.

That's usually the case. We address our biggest needs in free agency. I guess that's why Loomis likes to draft developmental players or take fliers on small school guys.

I know but it would be nice to see the players that you(any of us) get drafted and make an immediate impact or become good if not great. Right now I'm leaving mine the same but you never know Loomis might be trolling on this sight and see how right I really am.(ha,ha) Note: I do think I could draft better than they do at times.

I'd prefer Shaq Thompson in the first...

if he's not that there as I suspect he'd be gone because of his unique skill set, I'd take PJ...

now if we can move down a few spots, say to 18, gain a second round pick - hell 'yeah, I'm down with that action...

Shaq by most mocks I have seen isn't projected to go until the late 1st...

I would rather we draft some one else, but I wouldn't hate the pick.

Re: 2015 draft??

Quinten Rollins or D'Joun Smith could be good budget corners for the 3rd-4th round...

Quote:

D'Joun Smith, CB, Florida Atlantic
Height: 5-11. Weight: 190.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Projected Round (2015): 2-3.
12/15/14: Smith will play at the Senior Bowl and sources have said that Smith has impressed them. He totaled 53 tackles with eight passes broken up and one forced fumble this season. Smith has speed and athleticism to be a cover corner. Opponents didn't throw his direction much in 2014.

Smith had 13 passes broken up, seven interceptions and 35 tackles in 2013. As a sophomore, he notched 25 tackles with eight passes broken up. Smith also served as a kick returner and averaged 26 yards per kick return as a senior.

Personal: Son of Jason and Tosha Smith.
Quote:

Quinten Rollins, CB, Miami (Ohio)
Height: 6-0. Weight: 179.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Projected Round (2015): 2-4.
12/15/14: Rollins is a two-sport star who also has started on the basketball team. He was the 2014 MAC Defensive Player of the Year with 72 tackles, seven interceptions, four tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and nine passes broken up. Rollins needs to fill out his frame for the next level, but playing basketball could have held him back in that regard. Rollins is sticking with football for the NFL and has accepted an invitation to participate in the Senior Bowl.

Personal: Son of Kendra Rollins.

Re: 2015 draft??

We've got to get the front seven reinforced on defense as no defensive back can be expected to cover as long as we've asked our defensive backs to cover at times...

hagan714 01-18-2015 05:06 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

we need 1 solid CB and i agree any addition to the front seven would be a huge help. or rotation up front stinks. NT appears to big the biggest area of need. last year they stunk up the joint

Re: 2015 draft??

If Shaq Thompson is off the board when we pick, I'd move back and try to get an extra pick or two in the top 75...

After the top 7 picks, I really like the idea of moving down and gaining players in the second and third round pick range, for example...

LB Denzel Perryman, Miami (Fla.) (5-11, 242)
LB Paul Dawson, Texas Christian (6-2, 230)
LB Zack Hodges, Harvard (6-2, 235)
LB Lorenzo Mauldin, Louisville (6-4, 256)
CB D'Joun Smith, Florida Atlantic (5-11, 175)
OL John Miller, Louisville (6-3, 315)
DE Henry Anderson, Stanford (6-5, 295)

Re: 2015 draft??

i am more of the school fix the offense first and keep the defense off the field mentality this year. too many issues with what we have right now.

at least with the offense it is easier to see what needs to be fixed. the defense is a mess personnel wise in the secondary. and the front 7 is a mental basket case all together. god only knows what is going on up front.

Either of these guys would do it for me. Went to 3 TCU games this past season (Ft. Worth) and I like what I saw from Dawson.

You know, I went back and watched a TIVO'ed game my friend had of a TCU game and I saw something that the Saints could use in Dawson...

...a linebacker that can cover in pass defense and open field tackle...

Carl Davis Iowa is getting good press also.

Jordan Phillips need those medical evals on the back

ton of jr DT in the draft so it is hard to tell how this will all shake out

I'm warming to the idea of trading back to the end of the first round and selecting Perryman to cornerstone the new 3-4 defense we've sought...

What the the mechanics if trading back? Getting another teams late first round pick and swapping of later round picks to move up the queue in the later rounds? For example we trade 13 and our 3rd round pick for another teams 25th pick and mid second round pick.

I think he may go around the early to mid twenties. If we traded down what kind of comp. would we get trading down in that type of range?

I know, but McKinney is a big run stuffing LB that I think would pair well with Lofton. I really like Perryman though,I just want some big run stuffing ILB's on this defense. Ideally ,i would love to draft both of them!

If we didn't need a NT so bad, thats the 2 I would want also. McKinney,Perryman,Lofton,Ediboli, with Jr. on passing downs and Harrelson and Powell at swingman. Instant improvement. Maybe we trade someone for more picks, I can only hope.

Re: 2015 draft??

Too many not taking notice of Kendrick

Eric Kendricks, ILB/OLB, UCLA
Height: 6-0.
Weight: 230.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.
12/13/14: Kendricks has 139 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, two passes broken up, three interceptions and one force fumble this year. The senior is a sideline-to-sideline run-defender who covers a ton of ground. He also is an asset in pass coverage as he guards some receivers well in man coverage and does very well in zone. In the NFL, Kendricks should be a three-down starter.

The senior was all over the field against Virginia to open 2014. The big plays he made led to 14 points from the Bruins' defense. Kendricks stripped a receiver of the ball deep in UCLA territory, and a teammate scooped up the fumble to return it for a touchdown. While the quarterback was flooded with defenders on the next drive, Kendricks had tight coverage on the running back and was able to undercut the throw to pick it off and run 37 yards to take it to the house. Kendricks totaled 16 tackles, two passes broken up, the forced fumble and the interception against Virginia. He also was impressive against Texas (11 tackles), Arizona State (10 tackles), Washington (13 tackles), USC (14 tackles, 1 INT) and Stanford (11 tackles).

8/23/14: Kendricks played well in 2013 with 105 tackles, four tackles for a loss and an interception. He was third in the Pac-12 in tackles. Kendricks is an instinctive defender who can defend sideline-to-sideline.

Kendricks was a backup until a breakout 2012 season in which he led the Pac-12 in tackles. Kendricks had 149 tackles with six tackles for a loss, two sacks, four passes broken up, two forced fumbles and one blocked kick. His instincts were excellent as he did a great job of reading and reacting. Thanks to a disruptive defensive line and star outside linebacker Anthony Barr, Kendricks was able to make plays off of them.

Kendricks is getting good preparation from a UCLA coaching staff under Jim Mora, Jr. that has a lot of pro experience. While Kendricks plays middle linebacker for the Bruins, he would have to move to outside linebacker in the NFL if he can't add weight.

Personal: Economics major. Son of Marv Kendricks and Yvonne Thagon. Eric Kendricks is the younger brother of Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks, a second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of California.
