Scherff is the guy I'd want in the first round; and he's got that nasty demeanor you want back in our offensive linemen...

After that I'd wait till the third and take Donovan Smith from Penn State - he had a "here I am" display at Mobile Senior Bowl Week...

Re: 2015 draft??

So Vic Beasley weighed in at 246... That's fantastic considering most had him in the 220's. That's gonna calm a lot of concern about him.

Re: 2015 draft??

I always suspect at players putting on and loosing weight for combine. Can Beasley keep that weight on while training full time and can move at that weight in pads

hagan714 02-20-2015 09:08 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

Donovan Smith and Jake Fisher both are looking good. Smith has the upside and Fisher has the polish.

Re: 2015 draft??

Smith said in interviews he loved the idea of playing for the Saints and that the vets would be able to teach him what he needs to learn

He has to show that it is functional weight.

I want Collins. He will be an All Pro.

Re: 2015 draft??

Brandon Scherff performed 23 reps of 225 lbs bench press...

Honestly, am disappointed in that Brandon is known for his upper body strength...

Still like him as a first round selection, but am a tad concerned...

On the other hand, OL Ali Marpet, Hobart College, is having a combine display for the ages...

LSU OL La'el Collins or Roll Tide SS Landon Collins?

I'm talking about OL La'el didn't even know about Landon

Re: 2015 draft??

Speaking of the draft, with the NFL being a passing league now, I really wouldn't mind the Saints drafting Melvin Gordon or a back with similar skills in the mid rounds of the draft if and only if they go defense or offensive line in the 1st round

ChrisXVI 02-21-2015 08:56 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

I think I'm almost officially all in on Vic Beasley. I still want to see how he performs in drills at this heavier weight but he's looking incredible so far. For a guy that most thought was small and not very strong he's shattering expectations.

Re: 2015 draft??

Jeremy Langford, RB, Michigan State: 4.42 seconds dam so much for a 5th round steal. :brood:

A "committee back" with an ability to play on third downs. reliability in pass protection, the screen game and also the ability to get stronger and better as the game goes on.

That sums him up and now the secret is out. my fav day 3 steal at RB looks to be making himself money.

If Ingram does not sign would you take him in the third? hmmmmm i am strongly considering it.

that 4.42 puts him in my top 3 of backs. i was like everyone else wondering about his speed. he moves ahead of all the might mouse scat backs. just talked him into the second round.

he is clearly the best all around back in the draft.

a back Drew would love to add.

Re: 2015 draft??

Amari Cooper - is scary smooth.

gotta do some digging
Darren Waller - Chris Conley

Rannell Hall 4.60 disappointing. solid shuttle and cones though so pro day is huge

OG Jarvis Harrison Texas A&M impressed me to go back and look at him. motor issue? work ethic? scheme? talent is there. 330 lbs OG should not move this good

Still weak against the run, I'd expect

Gotta tell ya, these "measurables" coming out of the combine for linebackers are disturbing...

There's no need for another safety.

Very disappointing for Thompson considering he came in at 220LBS...

Shaq should be a 3rd rounder at best.

brees84 02-22-2015 01:17 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

Dawson 40: 4,95? 2 round? He stumbled on both runs...

Guy is probably smartest LB in this draft.

benardrick mckinney second 40: 4,69

early 1st round? No.

Re: 2015 draft??

another mid/late round guy, OLB Jake Ryan 40: 4,68
Thompson 4,72 and 4,69

Re: 2015 draft??

A top LB will be a split second ahead of other players ao the 40 times differences of less than .20 seconds is easily overcome

What down do they do a 40 yard dash? That's right they don't BFD

At the LB position, times do matter and is a good measurement of a players overall speed. After watching our core last year, we need FAST linebackers who can drop into coverage and chase down TE's or fast RB's.

Stephone Anthony is moving up the boards today. kid is making himself some money looks to have cemented himself into the 3rd round

Maybe we can get him now. ILB McKinnley is faster than expect? Hope we get him, too.

Dawson looked bad today (in drills also). Like he was out of shape.

I wouldn't touch McKinney in the first round.

Re: 2015 draft??

Alvin Dupree is my pick in the first:

Quote:

3. Kentucky's Bud Dupree recorded an 11-foot-6 broad jump, just an inch shy of Georgia wide receiver Chris Conley's 11-7 effort Saturday, which tied a combine record. Not bad for a guy who weighs 269 pounds. His nearest competition among the linebackers was Texas' Jordan Hicks, a distant second at 10-4. Dupree has been calling his combine shot since last summer, and delivered in emphatic fashion on Sunday.
Quote:

Alvin Dupree, 3-4OLB, Kentucky
Height: 6-4. Weight: 264.
Projected 40 Time: 4.74.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.
1/31/15: Dupree has a good skill set with speed, strength and athleticism. He needs to keep refining his pass-rushing moves. Sources have told Walter Football that Dupree could go from the mid first to the early second round.

The senior recorded 74 tackles with 11.5 tackles for a loss, one pass batted, one interception, two forced fumbles and 7.5 sacks. He's been much more disruptive than the numbers illustrate and his sack production was hurt by going against eight read-option offenses. Even though Dupree didn't have a huge stat line, he was very good against Florida as he caused a lot of disruption with pressure. Dupree had a huge pick-six against South Carolina in Kentucky's seven-point upset win. He did not impress against Georgia.

8/23/14: Dupree is a quick, strong and physical defender who can play defensive end and outside linebacker. For the NFL, he would be an interesting 3-4 outside linebacker or right end in a 4-3 defense.

Dupree played well in 2013 and was a nice weapon in Mark Stoops' defense. Dupree recorded 61 tackles with nine tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, one pass broken up and seven sacks for the season. The junior was disruptive off the edge. He was wise to return for his senior year.

It was nice to see Dupree build on his impressive 2012 season, when he totaled 91 tackles with 12.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and a pass batted. It was his first year of significant playing time. Dupree totaled 21 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, two passes broken up and a blocked kick as a freshman.

Personal: Majoring in community and leadership development. Son of Sophia Stephens and Alvin Dupree, Sr.

Well, they measure the 10 yard split during the 40. That's useful info....

Re: 2015 draft??

Was on Fanspeak earlier & Id be really satisfied if the Saints came away with a draft like this:

*Trade with Kansas City Chiefs
(swap 1st rounders & gain Chiefs 3rd round pick)

1.(18) OLB, Vic Beasley - Clemson

What a combine he had after bulking up to 246lbs. Putting up 35 reps on the bench was definitely a nice surprise. Beasley put to bed my concerns with His weight as long as he can keep it on. Also looked good dropping back in the coverage drills they had him run, besides not being able to hold on to the ball. Arrow is pointing up, so slim chance he's still on the board at 13, forget pick 18

2.(12) ILB, Denzel Perryman - Miami

Im Hopeful he's there in the 2nd, but its doubtful. I have no problem selecting him in the 1st, & trading back to do so would make it that much sweeter.

3.(11) OT/OG, Cedric Ogbuehi - Texas A&M

Falls this far? No way. His injury will land someone a draft day steal. Couldnt pass on him here.

3.(16) ILB, Stephone Anthony - Clemson

This pick finishes the revamp of our LB unit we all want so bad. No brainer

4.(13) RB, David Johnson - Northern Iowa

My Favorite RB in the draft & you dont have to spend a high pick to get him. Mark Ingram situation will determine whether this happens, but id like to make this selection regardless.

5.(12) OG/OC, Shaq Mason - Georgia Tech

Can play Guard or Center, Center may be what makes Him more money. Played well at the senior bowl & looked really good in practice, according to the guys there(Mayock, Jeremiah, Charles Davis.) Good value here.

6.(11) CB, Quandre Diggs - Texas

Highest rated corner left on the board. Covering the slot is where he'll make his living & can be a solid Nickel in the pros. Miami's L. Gunter was taken just before, which would have been my selection as he's bigger & better suited to play the outside.

7.(13) OLB, Charles "Davis" Tull - Chattanooga

His Combine performance was eye opening. He didnt run the 40 because of a hamstring issue, but despite the injury he had the best vertical of any LB(42.5") ..2nd in the broad jump(11') & 5th on the bench with 26 reps. Arrow is up, but with his recent showing its doubtful he falls this late.

*Trade with seattle (Saints gets Seattles 7th round pick for a future 7th)

7.(31) WR, Chris Conley - Georgia

Like prior pick Davis Tull, Conley Put on a show at the combine. At 6'3, 205lbs he had the second fastest 40 time, only behind Phillip Dorsett, with a 4.35 time. He jumped an insane 45" vertical & tied jamie collins broad jump record of 11'7. Those are freak numbers, but didnt exactly translate to much production at Georgia though. Worth a later pick but the combine definitely boosted his stock... so again, its doubtful he falls to the end of the 7th.

Highly unlikely we end up with a draft of this quality but we can always dream using Fanspeaks website haha. Feel most ppl would approve of this draft though, fun stuff.

blackangold 02-22-2015 11:20 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

That would be an amazing draft considering we walk away with 4 first rounders...

Beasley had an amazing day as well... no way he gets out of the top 10.

Ill encourage people to take a break from all the draft buzz until 3 weeks into free agency.
