Who is Baptiste? Does he play for the Saints?

elite ability - but not physical enough IMO. should have stayed in school. the best way to neutralize him is to run right at him. Jr already fills that roll. god knows we do not need another one

he reminds me of a poor mans donte flowers. 4 or 5 games the talent makes you drool. the other games he is hard to see on the field, he looks like any other guy out there. i still do not see the love for Donte either

scares me is all i can say. huge roll of the dice in my book. plus i would not be surprised if he is there in the 3rd.

Maybe not a full time starter in his first season but we don't have young LB's like him.

ok were is the love for drew? ROT please. the first two picks have some really good players that can be playing right out of camp or by mid season. plus there are more than a few that can slide inside to guard in a heart beat.

protect Drew in 2015 should be our battle cry:D

Hey, I'm all for protecting Drew. Most will agree that another 1.5 seconds gives Drew the time he needs to make our entire receiving corps pro bowlers again.

But is it ROT we need more than C or G?

Any chance the nasty DT from Washington falls to us?

Have another name from you everybit as good as Eli...

OLB Lorenzo Mauldin, Louisville; 6' 4", 244 lbs; 2014: 51 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, three passes defeneded and a forced fumble.

Shelton?!? Well, there's three teams ahead that have a strong NT need including Chicago (moving to 3-4 base), Redskins (but that may allow Scherff to sneak through), and Cleveland right in front of us; the Vikes are another possibility because traditionally they like to run a 4-3 with two big interior NT behemoths...

Plus there's the possibility somebody jumps in front of us....

But it's a possibility...

I think we've got the NT we need, he just wasn't healthy this season...

Re: 2015 draft??

My first 3 rounds:

1. Vic Beasley
2. Denzel Perryman
3. John Miller (G)

O-line heavy draft would include Donovan Smith in 5th and Adam Shead in 6th (if he is there)

hagan714 02-01-2015 01:41 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

Shelton or Scherff falling through the cracks is possible. slim but possible. if they do and the saints do not make the pick i will be drinking heavy again this year during the draft.

La'el Collins still appeals to me. cap wise in two years with the ability to slide to guard. PJ did a good sales job on the kid.

then you got the Jr wonders
Eddie Goldman
Malcom Brown
Ereck Flowers

heck i could walk away from the draft happy with

La'el Collins - JP sold me on him
Reese Dismukes - Danno sold me on him
Cedric Ogbuehi - come on there in 3rd on IR gotta do it
Donovan Smith - solid developmental prospect as any in the draft

2015 line up
LT Terron Armstead
LG Ben Grubbs - La'el Collins
OC Reese Dismukes
RG Jahri Evans
RT Zach Strief - La'el Collins

IR Cedric Ogbuehi
OC/OG Tim Lelito and RT/LT Donovan Smith are the depth.

2016 line up
LT Terron Armstead
LG La'el Collins
OC Reese Dismukes
RG Jahri Evans
RT Cedric Ogbuehi

OC/OG Tim Lelito and RT/LT Donovan Smith are the depth.
Zach Strief becomes your player coach and mentor

can/If Litto do RG in 2016?

Re: 2015 draft??

Shelton or Scherff falling to us with Shaq on the board would be tough...

But I really believe Shaq would have more inpact because we currently or getting, little to nothing from that position and because he's versatile...

Like Shelton...Love Scherff

But the impact of a Shaq Thompson would be humongous...

We get an outside linebacker who can sack and create turnovers...it's an element we really haven't had but one or two seasons since 'them'...

hagan714 02-01-2015 01:41 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

tell ya what give me my draft in 2015 and you get the rest and all the defensive FA you can sign.

In 2016 the draft is all yours, defense that is. as well as more FA signings.

only add a piece or two in 2016 for the offense

i like Shaq Thompson. i would bounce him between OLB and SS all day long. though i am leaning to SS. cut the field in half and let him run wild. SS is where started at. then move kenny all around to do his thing. still do not see a true SS skill set in kenny game. never did

Re: 2015 draft??

I'm not so sure Kenny Vaccaro isn't a Free Safety; either way, seems that Rob may have made things way too complicated; too much if this, then that; not allowing him to just make a judgement then react which would allow him 'to play faster'...

Re: 2015 draft??

My most recent draft from Fanspeak

Round 1: Shaq Thompson - OLB - Washington
- Does he fit into a 3-4 defense? Not really. But he's a good football player at a position we need an infusion of talent, and he can add some weight and be that edge guy for us.... hopefully

Round 2: Denzel Perrymen - ILB - Miami
-arguably the best ILB in the draft. Good feet, active hands, agile, uses leverage and fast enough to play in coverage. May not have the idlea "height" tho

Round 3: Reese Dismukes - C - Auburn
-Rimington award winner and overall quality center. If he beats out Lelito, then Lelito can play guard and backup the center position

Round 4: Steven Nelson - CB - Oregon State
- Good instincts, fast, tough and plays with a chip on his shoulder like he's the biggest guy on the field. We need toughness and a punishing attitude in our secondary like Seattle. He also had 3 passes deflected in the senior bowl

Round 5: Shaquille Mason - G - Georgia Tech
- comes from a zone blocking scheme but was dominant at the Senior Bowl during the week. If he pans out, the center of the Oline could be Lelito, Dismukes and Mason in the future

Round 6: Stephone Anthony - ILB - Clemson
-fell to the 6th round in my Fanspeak draft and grabbed him up. He gets the job done. Perrymen and Anthony as our future MLBs?

Round 7: John Crockett - RB - North Dakota State
-small school back who racked up 2000+ rushing yards and had 30 receptions. Played in the East-West Shrine game. Good vision, good hands, multi purpose back. And in round 7, can't complain with a potential sleeper

Looks good but I cannot no way shape or form can talk myself into taking Thompson in the 1st( I've tried) I may be totally wrong about the guy and if we take him I hope I am but I would prefer to get a safer draft pick. To me he is all or nothing and to draft him and he fail would set the D back badly.

I wasn't sold on him either, but I've watched some YouTube videos on him and read some analysis and I'm coming around (plus Beasley had already been selected in my draft). He won the Paul Hornung award for most versatile player in the nation, which Odell won last year. Read that he's a team player and great locker room guy, plus great athleticism (played OLB, ILB, Safety and RB last year). Fast, very good in coverage and a student of the game... I've read. All things we want to hear about regarding a football player. And if he's as versatile as they say, Rob Ryan should be able to put him in positions to be successful. If we drafted him, I wouldn't be mad

Anthony in the sixth, not gonna happen...

He's definitely a third rounder, possibly second round, and that's pre-combine...

Fanspeak needs to add:

DE Lynden Trail, Norfolk State (Sr); 6' 7", 260 lbs
OL Cole Manhart, Nebraska-Kearney, (Sr); 6' 5", 304 lbs

to the draftee dBase...

Re: 2015 draft??

ok lets compromise here

OLB SHAQ THOMPSON WASHINGTON

CB MARCUS PETERS WASHINGTON
slide stops here Rob swears he can keep the kid in line. job is on the line now

ILB STEPHONE ANTHONY CLEMSON

OT ROB HAVENSTEIN WISCONSIN 6'7" 332 5.39
here is my compromise for RT, typical Wisconsin lineman

OT TAYO FABULUJE TCU 6'7" 335 5.03
Jumbo set OT that can do some fill in at DT also.

RANNEL HALL CFU SR 6005 200 4.45
WR/KR/RB does anything you ask of him and produces.

round 7?
OL Cole Manhart, Nebraska-Kearney, (Sr); 6' 5", 304 lbs
John Crockett - RB - North Dakota State
works for me

More draft analysis has Shaq Thompson playing a SS Joey Browner (aka Kam Chancelor role)...

With the personnel we currently have under contract, that may mean Kenny Vaccaro and Shaq Thompson would be up for the same role...

To get those would be steals. Are the 2 backs for ground and pound? I like both. What to do with the O-line, will Grubbs and Evans hold up or do we need some youth on the front line? A major trade could fix all of our needs!!

Regarding the offensive line...

First, would be before free agency getting resolution on contracts for Galette, Brees, Colston, Evans, Grubbs, Hawthorne...

Second, in free agency, sign two of these three and you've immediately got one of the best and youngest lines in the NFL...

G Clint Boling, Cincinnati (Georgia); 6' 5", 311 lbs., age 25

C/G Stefen Wisniewski, Oakland (Penn State); 6' 3", 307 lbs, age 25

C Rodney Hudson, Kansas City (Florida State); 6' 2", 299 lbs., age 25

Third, now you can draft development projects with later round picks, using your premium picks on defense where you'd see your greatest impact...

Fanspeak's On the Clock Mock Draft Simulator

No. 013 (R1, 13) NT Jordan Phillips, Oklahoma; 6' 6", 334 lbs.

No. 044 (R2, 12) LB Denzel Perryman, Miami (Florida); 5' 11", 245 lbs.

No. 075 (R3, 11) LB Stephone Anthony, Clemson; 6' 3", 245 lbs.

No. 205 (R7, 13) LB Davis Tull, Tennessee-Chattanooga; 6’ 3”, 245 lbs.

With this draft simulation, was able to get the middle of the field tightened up...

Found another great CB candidate to develop without using a high pick...

Allen is a great fit to what the Saints do in the backfield...

Beckwith adds to Lelito to give us a great young interior line corps to develop; invaluable depth...

Wouldn't it be great to find Tull with a seventh....

Re: 2015 draft??

There's a guy coming up in the ranks from a very small school. His name is Ali Marpet. Idk if y'all heard or read about him,but he's worth taking a look at. Scouts are starting to take notice to him. He played OT,but projects as an interior lineman in the pros. He held up very well in the senior bowl against Danny Shelton and other big school D linemen. He also projects to fit well with ZBS. Let me know what y'all think.

No. 075 (R3, 11) LB Stephone Anthony, Clemson; 6' 3", 245 lbs.

No. 109 (R4, 13) CB Ladarius Gunter, Miami (Florida); 6’ 1”, 200 lbs.

No. 140 (R5, 12) RB Javorius Allen, So Cal; 6' 1", 220 lbs.

No. 171 (R6, 11) OL Ben Beckwith, Miss State; 6' 4", 317 lbs.

Not bad, but its hard for me to get on board for Phillips at #13.
Injuries are a concern but my biggest issue is he's a flash player. Makes the one highlight play then disappears. Goes on a stretch without getting much production and stays blocked. Although i am intrigued by his potential & size. Rather wait & see if we can land him in the 2nd, i Doubt it but id feel more comfortable that route. Same with Arik Armstead at DE

Re: 2015 draft??

I wouldnt be mad at all drafting Perryman & Dawson round 1&2. Would be early but I'd rather get guys that are football players & could make immediate impacts on our team & revamp the LB unit. Im just hoping we at least land one solid LB in round 1 or 2.

Source: Ali Marpet*|*Hobart,*OG*:*2015 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

01/25/15 - 2015 Senior Bowl Stock Report: Ten who stood out in Mobile...Ali Marpet, OG, Hobart College: Marpet was arguably the most pleasant surprise of the 2015 Senior Bowl. All week long, the former Statesman left tackle demonstrated impressive strength, balance and toughness despite making the jump from Division III and switching inside to guard. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

Read about him leading up to the Reese's Bowl (Sr. Bowl); showed significant improvement each day adapting to the level of competition...

I consider performance in the game as important as the week of practice; some guys are practice studs who freak on game day...

He had a good, but not great game as expected...

Wouldn't spend a third on him as some project, but if he's there in the fourth after the compensatory bullshinski (about three picks) at the end of round three and through four, then you've to consider him...

Re: 2015 draft??

OLB SHAQ THOMPSON WASHINGTON
same ol sane ol

CB KEVIN JOHNSON WAKE FOREST
i would not be surprised to see him be the second CB off the board at the bottom of the first. same ol same ol

OT JAKE FISHER OREGON
Ok saints swing backup OT just got a huge upgrade and a player that can push for playing time right out of the gate. ok needs to clean up the penalties but blocking for Drew and protecting a true pocket should clean up a bunch of them right away. needs to bulk up and hit the weight room

DE LYNDEN TRAIL NORFOLK STATE
Not sure if he will be here he has that could go in the second or third written all over him. then again a small trade up could get him. interesting prospect

RB TERRENCE MAGEE LSU
Ok way high for most but he has proved he is the complete power back in the draft. power runner that catches and blocks extremely well. i do not see us getting into a bidding war for Mark

DT LETERRIUS WALTON CENTRAL MICHIGAN 6051 321 5.19
Who? high motor guy with a bit of room to grow. bit of a low floor to start out with but has a solid ceiling and may be one of those players to shock everyone IMO

C GREG MANCZ TOLEDO 6047 307 5.08
I found my round 7 guy and say who once again? i like this kid. small school issues but he is athletic enough. played OT OG and C. A solid shot gun snapper to boot. what sealed the deal is extremely high football IQ. The kid does not get made a fool of on the field. potential starting OG or C down the road? solid chance with this kid. East-West Shrine Game help to keep him in the lower rounds. he did not fair so well and came away with a torn labrum

actually looking at it looks like a typical head scratching saints draft.

Love the first round pick...

Have to watch more of your second round pick as I'm not seeing it...

Check out the kid from Miami, he's currently a fourth rounder...

Trail in the fourth is where he should be taken; you're right that someone will reach in the third, probably among the compensatory selections (Three in the Third Round)...

I think our draft should have the intent, focus of solidifying the middle of the field...

But Shaq Thompson would allow us to do so much...

remember ia talking a #cb with that pick. i really do not see a true #1 CB in the draft except maybe Marcus Peters who as we know is all about interview skills.other than that all #2 in my book.

PJ is too up and down in my book.

Quinten Rollins draft another project?

Kevin Johnson best feet and hips in the draft. might be the best man cover in the draft. i am waiting for the beauty pageants numbers. that is were i think he will shine over the others.

Re: 2015 draft??

The only issue with Rollins is that he's only played the position for a year, does he regress or have a low ceiling?

I'd risk an early third on Rollins, but can we afford to do it after the selection debacle of last season when we clearly should have taken an OLB then?!?

Rob Rang seems to think the Pats will take Rollins with the 32nd pick - first round...

pats want him they will go get him and train him up. that is what they do. load up with starters and draft better prospects to replace them when they ask for the huge contracts. fans here do not get so bent about project picks even in the first. he will see the field some how some way

Re: 2015 draft??

On Fanspeak lately, Bernardrick McKinney has been available in the 2nd. In Walterfootball's latest mock, they have us taking him in the second also. I didn't see him play, but from what I've read, he's lost in space and not good in coverage. I read he's a downhill thumper with speed who could play ILB or OLB. So, for those who watched him play, how's his coverage skills? Because he sounds like what we already have at LB except taller

He's a taller Curtis Lofton.

Re: 2015 draft??

1) Landon Collins*, S, Alabama
Height: 6-0. Weight: 222.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.
2/7/15: Collins had 103 tackles with seven passes broken up and three interceptions in 2014. Sources say that for the NFL, he is a strong safety type who will do well playing in the tackle box. Collins is not a deep free safety who can cover receivers or tight ends in man coverage. That could hurt him on draft day.

2) Gerod Holliman**, S, Louisville
Height: 6-2. Weight: 213.
Projected 40 Time: 4.63.
Projected Round (2015): 2-3.
2/7/15: Holliman enjoyed a massive 2014 season for the Cardinals. Replacing Calin Pryor, Holliman was one of the breakout players in college football. He led the nation with 14 interceptions. The redshirt sophomore also had 40 tackles with three passes broken up. Holliman had an excellent game against Florida State with two interceptions. He also had two picks against Virginia and Florida International. Holliman returned the one against Florida International for a touchdown. He has both size and instincts, but has to get better at tackling and providing more stable support in the ground game.

3) Jaquiski Tartt, S, Samford
Height: 6-1. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.57.
Projected Round (2015): 2-4.
2/7/15: Tartt created some draft buzz with an impressive skill set on display for Samford. He totaled 62 tackles with one pass broken up and one interception this season. Tartt was solid against Auburn.

4) Durell Eskridge*, S, Syracuse
Height: 6-3. Weight: 203.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Projected Round (2015): 2-4.
2/7/15: Eskridge recorded 62 tackles with one interception and three passes broken up in 2014. He has some athleticism with size and quickness. Eskridge could be a free safety candidate for the NFL.

5) Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 194.
Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
Projected Round (2015): 2-4.
2/7/15: Randall had a strong senior season with 101 tackles with three interceptions, eight passes broken up, two forced fumbles, 9.5 tackles for a loss and a sack. He has had a big presence for the Sun Devils' defense and stayed around the ball. Randall could have some free safety potential for the NFL. He had a strong week at the Senior Bowl and showed some coverage skills as a free safety.

I see what i did there....
