These are some of the receivers drafted 3rd or later in the 2012 draft. Wikipedia links to describe their current status.

Out of receivers only Jones(sort of), Hilton, Wright, and Benjamin have done anything. Hemingway never got enough targets(and playing for Alex Smith). And out of the olinemen I think only two here did anything. Mosley and Brooks.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

It's a much deeper defensive linemen class than wide receiver class for sure...

But they'll be a couple of third day guys who could surprise...

It is likely we don't select Treadwell...but you can bet that they'll miss Marques Colston after this season...

Guess Marques failing this year's physical made the Saints face the obviousness that NFL players have age limits...

Was Colston a difference maker last year?

Anyways, I think we might end up drafting Jackson. Brees wants a playmaker.

Why did the saints not know that before? They thought Colston was not done?

Out of this draft class if we pick one I would rather have T. Sharpe he has the most upside of any of them. Should be running wild by mid season. .

Of course they knew, but they've been in denial about his health; just like they've been in denial about other personnel...

But the fact that he won't be on the sideline in black and gold - well, ****te is going to get real for the offense this year without a comparable talent...

So we're going to struggle on offense again. Great. I guess when we missed on CJ that was it. If Cooks needs Colston to make him play hard then he's no Antonio Brown.

I'm frustrated. We better draft a ROTY candidate.

I don't think the NFL Gods will help us until we show we deserve it.

Will...

...you gotta settle down, man...appreciate you're passion...but give things a chance to shake out first...

even if the Saints don't take Treadwell in the first, they're are some options there that could still be very effective...

...maybe not the monster Treadwell could be in this offense, but still pretty effective...

...and remember, let's see if Jeff Ireland can't continue to be a positive check in the draftroom...

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I never said I only wanted Treadwell. Thomas, maybe, but not Treadwell. Just someone who will not be a bust and will make the catches.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

What about Rashard Higgins in later rounds?

Quote:

Rashard Higgins*, WR, Colorado State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 196. Arm: 32.25. Hand: 9.75.
40 Time: 4.64.
Projected Round (2015): 4-5.
4/2/16: Higgins totaled 75 catches 1,062 yards and eight touchdowns in 2015. He missed one game because of injuries, but his production was down a lot because of coach Jim McElwain's departure to Florida and quarterback Garrett Grayson's to the NFL.

Higgins has good quickness, route-running and hands. He's a polished receiver, but was extremely thin, and that had teams grading him as an early rounder for Day 3. Higgins gained a lot of weight for the combine, so maybe that was why he ran much slower than expected.

8/10/15: Higgins was one of the most productive wide receivers in the nation in 2014 as he caught 96 passes for 1,750 yards and 17 touchdowns. The sophomore showed excellent hands and route-running. With head coach Jim McElwain in Florida and quarterback Garrett Grayson playing for the New Orleans Saints, Higgins' production is likely to decline as a junior. He had 68 receptions for 837 yards and six scores as a freshman.
Quote:

Strengths
Has sink into his breaks and comes out with enough juice for workable separation. Possesses decent run after the catch talent. All-*day hands catcher with good extension who saw substantial improvement with his battle against focus drops. Focuses like a laser when tracking the deep ball. Understands how to work late separation along sideline through leverage. Always on top of his high-*point game as a downfield pass catcher. Subtle in his routes but able to get corners leaning.
Weaknesses
Pedestrian speed into routes. Will need to improve the sharpness of his routes to gain adequate separation in the pros. Had moments of nonchalance near end zone. Saw explosive catch rate drop from 25 percent to 13 percent. Play strengths is a shade below where it needs to be. Can get stuck to press coverage and will need to vary and improve his release. Gets in the way as a blocker, but might lack commitment.

Captain Obvious Strikes Again, ESPN's Tripplet Says The Saints Could Take a Cornerback

Damn, Tripp, of course they could take a CB, they could also take a defensive linemen...

Hope ESPN is paying him well as his online editors make him look a douche...

Wish the local paper had been stronger and he could've stayed...

Well, I've made this point before...

Being No. 1 on offense doesn't translate to the big board that determines the winner...

In fact, say you drop the highest and lowest scoring games to eliminate "flukes" and the Saints were barely No.10 in scoring last season...

We move up and down the field, but we weren't finishing as we have in the past...

And two big reasons for that were that we missed big receivers in Colston and Graham...

That's why I've banged the drum for Treadwell and had for Tyler Higbee...

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Here's the thing with Jack and Smith and players with those type of injuries...

One of the big issues that limited the Saints with Vilma was developing continuity...

With Vilma's bum knee, it was week to week, probably last minute assignments adjustments whether he played or not...

That is an unnecessary burden, strain, stress on a defensive unit as a whole...

I'd rather have a bunch of high-effort, average athletes who are going to man up and play and develop team chemistry than have a weekly update on whether one player will be able to play or not...

Do we really need another thread on one player about how he and his (fill-in-the-black) is feeling?!?

My biggest fear in this draft is that D.A. starts us drafting 4-3 personnel and we're back to the see-saw of square pegs and round holes and D.A. is gone in another season or two...

...never developing one system or another...

I'm not sold on Allen either. He wasn't a DC in 2009. And the 4-3 or 3-4 mixing could be a problem. We're supposed to go back to a 4-3 but who knows.

I think I'm just about 100% on board with those picks JP. That would be as close to perfect as we could get.

I have heard some chatter lately (from Mike Triplett I think) about the Saints doing something completely out of the ordinary and looking to trade down. Tony Pauline also mentioned it a few weeks ago saying we had interest in moving down and taking Kamalei Correa later in the first.

I look at Oakland and judge their drafts under DA. not bad not to bad at all. He is a bit of a gambler I have to admit. His FA moves one year was his death sentence. I hope he learned his lesson.

He proved to be one thing Rob was not. A coach involved on the field and one that makes changes on the fly to adapt to the flow of a game. that alone is enough in my book to sit back and watch the game unfold vs yelling at the TV and wanting to slap Rob to wake him up as to what is happening on the field.

DA is a hands on coach. Rob was not

check this kid out

Darius Jackson RB Eastern Michigan 6000 220 4.40
20+ catches the past two year and plays in a pro set offense
I know RB is not high on the needs list but

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I think RB is a need
Ingram cant get through a seaso healthy
The less said about the stupid money spent om the injury case that is Spiller the better. The other two back Hightower hasnt played 16 games in years and Ballard hasnt played 16 games since 2012. Thats alot of physio/hot tub time between them.

In all honesty, I can see it happening. Don't want it to, not a bit.. but I can remove my fan bias enough to see some logic in it. And really, if we were to draft a QB in the first he would be the one I'd feel best about. Not sold on Goff or Wentz, and I'm not totally sold on Lynch either.. But he has come a long way in a short time in terms of the work he's done to prepare for the transition from college to the pros. He has all the physical tools and attributes you'd like, plus a lot of natural athleticism. If his dedication to his craft continues like this then I'd say give him 2-3 years and he could become a really good pro. Obviously we would all prefer a day one starter with our first pick, but it would be a solid investment in the future.. in fact if it stops all the "life after Brees" type threads it might be worth it on that alone!

Seriously though, prepare yourselves people. If he's sitting there at 12, have yourself a strong drink with a couple of muscle relaxers crushed up in it on standby and just know that this too shall pass...

WillSaints81 04-25-2016 07:37 PM

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I believe the transition from Drew will have to be a RB not qb. Because we won't get a qb that will do what Drew has done, you better have a RB to carry the team. If Deuce had a defense in his era, saints are playoff teams.

Thing is Sean Payton is likely here beyond Drew so he will try to find the next big qb. But now now.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Would you guys be disappointed if we drafted Reggie Ragland in the first round? I saw him mention somewhere that the Saints were one of the teams who have shown the most interest in him. Seems like the kind of unexpected pick we'd make.

CheramieIII 04-25-2016 08:12 PM

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

There is no way we could have bad luck with all of the RB's this year. Ingram has never been a 25 carry a game guy. Give him 15, Spiller 5, Hightower 5 and Ballard a couple. The Backfield is fine. If we draft a QB it won't be in the 1st 3 rounds. DT/DE, CB and OG, Safety or DT

Best thing the Saints can do is wait till the end of the season; if Brees finishes breaking down to injury as he did last year, Saints gain some leverage...

This last deal is gonna be ugly with Brees...And I wouldn't give guaranteed money past next season...
