Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Now 5-8 and overall rankings. The rest are round 3 or later and I expect one of these to fall.
1.Adolphus Washington 2.Vernon Butler 3.Austin Johnson 4.Kenny Clark Washington had a tape of him finally on DB against MSU where he looked solid. He seemed to have drawn some double teams which held him back some. Butler's newest video against the other MSU was honestly not as good as the others. I was just not impressed. Clark and Johnson left the same impressions as before. I don't think any of these are better than the other four. 1.Reed 2.Robinson 3.Billings 4.Rankins 5.Washington 6.Butler 7.Johnson 8.Clark I will do one more batch because I do not care for the last two on my list. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
And now here was the next rankings for rounds 3-4
1.Maliek Collins 2.Chris Jones 3.Sheldon Day But then...............I found big time steals for the fifth and sixth round Matt Ioannidis vs Notre Dame (2015) | Draft Breakdown Willie Henry vs Michigan State (2015) | Draft Breakdown Ioanniddis plays also for Temple and looked better than Day, Collins, Jones, Clark, and Johnson imo with the reel I saw against Notre Dame. Henry also looked decent against MSU for Michigan. Now whoever was hyping him up I have to disagree........ D.J. Reader vs Alabama (2015) | Draft Breakdown Just did not see anything here that makes him as good as Lawson or Dodd, who are ends. Now the top 6 stays the same but from 7 on 7.Matt Ioanniddis 8.Willie Henry 9.Austin Johnson 10.Kenny Clark 11.Maliek Collins 12.Chris Jones 13.Sheldon Day 14.DJ Reader Two players I left out.......Javon Hargrave from SC State because there was not enough to go on(last time I think I was on a youtube highlight reel) and Hassaan Ridgeway from Texas. Onto LBs next. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Solid DT - Warm fuzzies
Jarran Reed A'Shawn Robinson Austin Johnson Kenny Clark Scares me - Crap shoot pick. Andrew Billings Sheldon Rankins Vetron Butler Interview - Where did you go? Adolphus Washington Chris Jones Sheldon Day Interesting prospect - Rotation with solid up side Adam Gotsis Willie Henry Matt Ioanniddis Javon Hargrave 50/50 - Depth upgrade/Diamond in the rough DJ Reader Hassaan Ridgeway Quinton Jefferson Jihad Ward Anthony Zettel Lawrance Thomas Luther Maddy Dean Lowery Niles Lawrence-Stample How low is low - Ton of coaching needed but high ceiling? Maliek Collins Problem child - personal favorite. Top 4 priority UDFA. Josh Tupou What a shame - such talented but does he get it? Darius Latham Nasty but multi suspensions and now a DUI Then there are UDFA to look at Chris Mayes, Connor Wujciak |

He can back up Byrd this season and take over in 2017 when Byrd gets cut. |

Jalen Ramsey, FS/SS/CB, Florida State, 6005, 209 4.41 Sean Davis FS/SS/CB Maryland 6011 201 4.46 Justin Simmons SS/FS/CB Boston College 6024 201 4.59 Top speed is an issue at 4.60 because he needs to work on being patience. Bites on ball fakes at times. Drew can coach him up. You can put him on a TE and feel comfortable. His all around game is about as solid as any in the draft. Excellent football IQ. Bounced around the secondary a bit too much at BC because he was that good. Not a finished product. Right now he is solid in zone and needs to work on man coverage. He is a solid tackler also. Shame BC did not turn him loose on blitzs too much. But when they did he looked pretty good. SS/FS right now IMO. I would be happy to see both of these guys in saints uniform. Both are tackling machines and ball hawkers. R3 Sean Davis FS/SS/CB Maryland 6011 201 4.46 R5 Justin Simmons SS/FS/CB Boston College 6024 201 4.59 Davis has the skill set that could make the final years of Byrds contract kind of a mute issue. Davis is vastly under rated. Simmons might give Kenny a run for his money in tackling skills |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
So I just did my rankings for OLB............not going to post vids, just rank them and describe some. Btw, I only counted those that should be third round. I did not include Jack, Smith, Floyd, and Lee.
1.Jordan Jenkins(is he related to our Jenkins?) I was mostly impressed by him more than the others and he is the lowest ranked by CBS of those I looked at. However, he had a dominant game against Vanderbilt and held his own against Bama(while the rest of the defense didn't). 2.Joshua Perry He's actual second round projected but I think he could fall to third as he's the fifth on the board. The rest just exhibited so many flaws and Perry appeared to play solid but not spectacular against MSU. 3.Kamalei Correa He had some nice plays in the tape I saw against Virginia. Virginia is considered one of the lesser teams in the ACC I know but they are a big school. It is a risk though getting someone from Boise State. 4.Kyler Fackrell Another who had solid plays but the best I could get(and only) was against Colorado State. 5.Deion Jones Looked better against Florida compared to Bama but for a school like LSU you expect more. This one's going to surprise......... 6.Su'a Cravens Why do I rank him this low? Because he's 1.not big enough 2.didn't look all that great to me against the likes of Stanford and ND and 3.He played for USC. USC has not been a contender in a long time and it's due to the fact that the school is known more for it's party nature. Players go there to have fun and to eventually get paid NFL money. How has Marquise Lee and Nelson Agholor done so far in the NFL(I know, receivers)? It takes these players a while to catch on once in the pros due to maturity issues. I can never endorse a pick from USC, ever. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Deion Jones i give a flyer to considering he has started for only one year. that begs the question, why only one?
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
So with all of that out of the way here are a number of draft lists.
Round 1...Jerran Reed or Shaq Lawson Round 2...Michael Thomas Round 3...Jonathan Bullard or Adolphus Washington Round 4...Guard Round 5...Matt Ioanniddis Round 1....Laquan Treadwell Round 2....Jonathan Bullard Round 3....Adolphus Washington Round 4....Guard Round 5....Matt Ioanniddis Round 7....Willie Henry Personally DT is deeper than DE. I think it's best to get a DE first, and wait for the third round to get a DT. We could just go 1-2 with DT, DE and hope Thomas falls to third round or we will be trusting Coleman. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Over thinking things here. As a project is he worth the time? watch yall think?
T.J. Green FS CLEMSON 6024 209 4.34 Hands 9 5/8 Arms 32 Short shuttle: 4.41 seconds 3-cone drill: 7.1 seconds One-year starter. Raw Raw as could be. But the measurable are off the chart. Tackling and coverage skills did improve this year. So is there enough upside to justify a 3 or 4 to let a kid keep on learning? |

Aside from WR Laquon Treadwell, I'd rather us take Jarran Reed or reach ever so slightly in my book for La Tech's Vernon Butler or reach just a tad more for Clemson DE Kevin Dodd in the first... Billings, Rankins, Clark, omg especially Clark all will end up being Sedrick Ellis 2.0 - NFThanks... |

What I can say about Marylands defense unit as whole is why I like this group. There is no reason they did as well as they did and hung in there each and every game. The defense was the heart and soul of the team and they all came to work with their big boy pants on. They played well as a unit. They are all well coached and know their responsibilities. Athleticism is one thing but having your head screwed on straight is another. blue collar, lunch pail toting players the lot of them. Those that know me know that is a high praise in my book. I went out of my to watch this unit play. Yannick Ngakoue has probably more upside than the media scouts are giving the kid. He is tough as nails and has a controlled nasty streak in his game. He is the type of player that is pigeon holed as to short and athleticism is questionable. But do not be surprised to see this kid have a long productive career in the NFL. They talk about his pass rushing a lot or the lack of but do not over look the kids ability to set the edge against the run. Defiantly one of the better ones in the draft. Pass rush is were the upside is under rated in this kid. Should have stayed in school and worked on his moves. Sean Davis was one of my favs from this team. A leader in a group of players like this says so much more than a leader on an under performing team like OSU for example. Explains my man crush? |

Jordan Jenkins? is the first thing I would ask, were did you go for half a year? nagging groin injury? I am not to sure I am buying into that 100%. I always thought he was a bit over hyped.

He'll make the occasional interception (which is rare for the Saints) but he's not very fluid in coverage and the liabilities will probably exceed the production... Late round safety to consider - Clemson's T. J. Green is who I'm looking as well as the Buckeye's Tyvis Powell... If we somehow sign Nick Fairley and relieve ourselves of a compulsory selection on the defensive line; we could look to Darian Thompson, who was an out-and-out ballhawk; had dropped him earlier from my Mock after a poor Combine performance, but in the last few days it has come to light that he was once of several players that had come down with a viral bug thus affecting his performance... |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Giving some details on my selections , along with alternate picks...
R1, S12 (Pick 12) WR Laquon Treadwell, Mississippi; Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 210 lbs.* • Treadwell is the best wide receiver, playmaker to come out of the college ranks since Julio Jones… • He’s a big, physical receiver with elite hands and catch radius, often winning contested passes... • Started immediately as a national top recruit; has competed and been successful against many of the top SEC defensive backs, many now in the NFL… • Only criticism is his straight-line speed isn’t elite though he's progressed from injury two seasons ago… • It is worth noting that Jerry Rice, Tim Brown and Michael Irving did not have great straight line speed... • Terrific competitor and skilled downfield blocker; respected teammate and locker room leader... • By adding Treadwell to the Saints wide receiver corps, you add the best possible candidate to not only replace Colston's reliable receiving skills, but equally important, his leadership and high character… • Having Treadwell, Cooks and Snead instantly makes the WR corps among the elite in the NFL... Alternate Selection: DL Jarran Reed, Alabama; Height: 6' 3"; Weight: 308 lbs. R2, S16 (Pick 47) DB Xavien Howard, Baylor; Height: 6’ 1”; Weight: 200 lbs. • Now, the Saints have sought a big, physical cornerback for versatility in match-ups, failing the past two years... • SJB lacked experience and the temperament for the position and Brandon Browner had seen better days... • Xavien Howard is an ideal candidate who surprised by coming out as an underclassman and probably would be a first rounder with another season… • Xavien's a big, physical CB with fluid hips, good change of direction (especially for his size), a violent tackler, and has great hands, ball skills. • Though his straightline 40 yd dash was average, his shuttle drills, and change of direction skills were at the top of this draft class… • With Keenan Lewis now on the wrong side of 30 and beginning to break down, Delvin Breaux needs a complement… • Howard’s size and skills would also lend to versatility and allowing him to also play safety… Alternate Selection: DE Carl Nassib, Penn State; Height: 6' 7"; Weight: 278 lbs. R3, S15 (Pick 78) DE Bronson Kaufusi, Brigham Young; Height: 6’ 6”; Weight: 285 lbs. • Kaufusi has the prototypical size, weight, arm length and hand size you want in a multi-front LDE… • Athlete that started out as a TE, Bronson, a coach’s son (Father was his position coach) moved to DE… • Productive history; 2015: 64 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles; 2014: 43 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, five passes broken up and seven sacks while playing injured; 2013: 37 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception and a forced fumble. • Kaufusi is an advanced project who with some pro-coaching can improve by disengaging blocks quicker and adding variation to his pass rush portfolio … Alternate Selection: FS Darian Thompson, Boise State; Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 208 lbs. R4, S14 (Pick 112) TE Tyler Higbee, Western Kentucky; Height: 6' 6"; Weight: 249 lbs. • Higbee has a terrific blend of height, arm length (33.25 in) and hand size (10.25 in)… • Converted Wide Receiver who is still able to add quality bulk to his frame… • Missed four games with knee sprain; came back early for conference championship, re-aggravating injury missing senior game, combine… • Despite abbreviated season caught 38 receptions for 563 receiving yards and eight (8) touchdowns… • As a receiver, he’s got the straight line speed to beat linebackers, safeties; good at find the soft zones in the passing game, great catch radius and ability to snatch ball away from body… • Though a work in progress, Higbee is probably the better of the blocking tight ends in the 2016 draft class… • Perfect time, place to take this tight end to develop behind recently signed veterans; as he develops, would allow the Saints to avoid escalating cap numbers of vet contracts… Alternate Selection: OG Conner McGovern, Missouri; Height: 6' 4"; Weight: 308 lbs. R5, S13 (Pick 152) LB Nick Vigil, Utah State ; Height: 6’ 2”; Weight: 239 lbs. • Two-time conference first team selection; lead his team with tackles... • Surprised at combine leading linebacking group in cone and shuttle drills… • Excellent instincts, ball location, read/react times and plays all out willing to engage larger blockers... • Good first step in dropping back in coverage, having speed, quickness, anticipation to maintain solid coverage… • Very good at navigating through crowds to generate an impact play; plays with great game speed… • Still needs to add size, bulk to his frame, but can come in as a 3rd down back immediately and special teamer… • Brother was signed as an UDFA at Miami and started two games by end of last season… Alternate Selection: DT Matt Ionnadis, Temple; Height: 6' 3"; Weight: 308 lbs. R6, S12 (Pick 187*) TRADED this pick with 2015 Sixth Round Pick traded for DB Damian Swann (2015, R5, S31, Pick 167) R7, S16 (Pick 237) OG Jordan Rigsbee, California ; Height: 6’ 4”; Weight: 305 lbs. • Plays with a nasty disposition, violent hands that jolts defenders, plays through the whistle… • Not a polished pass blocker, but he has the athleticism and tenacity to recover and keep fighting… • Rigsbee’s an athletic blocker, very good at getting out on screen plays and in pulling on run plays… • Rigsbee has started at four different positions for Cal; his most natural position is left guard... Alternate Selection: NT Chris Mayes, Georgia; Height: 6' 3"; Weight: 338 lbs. And it all continues to come together... :bng: |

http://walterfootball.com/college/Florida_logo.gif2016 Pro Day Notes: Tuesday, March 22, 2:45 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider image: http://walterfootball.com/college/Florida_logo.gif Florida Despite the fact it was a beautiful 80-degree day outside, pro day was held in the Gators' new indoor facility with its brand new soft, slow turf. Many of the players ran slower than expected and struggled with change of direction drills. That being the case, there were still some good performances. Defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard looked phenomenal in drills, displaying tremendous athleticism, agility and power. He was able to bend, displayed violent punch with his hands and easily moved about the field. Bullard met with the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans. I'm also told the New York Jets like Bullard, whom they would consider if they trade Muhammad Wilkerson. And the word coming from Florida pro day is the Jets are shopping Wilkerson. Whether the team can get a deal done anytime soon is another thing altogether. I'm told safety Keanu Neal continued the momentum of his improved 40 performance with a terrific position workout. Expanding on my earlier comments on Vernon Hargreaves' workout, besides looking quick and explosive, he caught every ball in drills. Teams were incredibly impressed. Tight end Jake McGee also had a strong outing, running in the low-to-mid 4.7s (4.72 to 4.76) and catching the ball well. Antonio Morrison participated in the workout despite the fact he's still recovering from an infection. Morrison did not run all that well and struggled in drills, but teams were impressed he competed. His schedule moving forward include 14 visits and eight workouts. Alex McCalister was another who was commended for his hustle, but I am told he struggled and did not look natural when practicing out of a two-point stance. Sleeper linebacker Anthony Harrell looked solid in position drills and was also tried at fullback. Receiver Demarcus Robinson, whose times range from 4.56 to 4.7, looked mechanical, lacked explosion and did not show much quickness in his route running. http://walterfootball.com/college/Lo...aTech_logo.gif2016 Pro Day Notes: Tuesday, March 22, 7:10 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider image: http://walterfootball.com/college/Lo...aTech_logo.gif Louisiana Tech Quarterback Jeff Driskel had a very successful pro day. Standing on his Combine testing numbers, Driskel threw about 60 passes and all but two (one short, one just out of the reach of the pass catcher) were on the mark. Many felt Drskel could really not have thrown the ball better. The quarterback met with the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions today and has a workout with the Arizona Cardinals scheduled for later this week. Defensive tackle Vernon Butler improved on many of his Combine marks, timing as fast as 5.05 in the 40, posting a 33.5-inch vertical jump and 9-3 broad jump. He also looked good in position drills. With Billings the Buttttt revolves around playing against spread offenses. OL players from the spread are fundamentally flawed at the pro level. They are always a project. So my fear is what happens when he faces a pro offense were the OL does not bail into pass coverage eliminating the gaping lanes he got in college. Can he handle an OL that punches first before giving as little ground as possible.
Billings does come with some bull strength. BUTTTTTT....... Rankings is all about speed so he is still the biggest BUT in the draft for me. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I think a 3 tech DT is our biggest need at the moment, but with so many good DT's in this draft we can find an instant starter in the 2nd round. I just did a quick 3 round mock to see how that approach could work:
Round 1 Pick 12: Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson - Perfect weak side DE to complement Cameron Jordan. The group of DT's is too deep to pass on a great DE here. Round 2 Pick 16: Chris Jones, DT/DE, Mississippi State - Boom. Day one starter at the 3 technique. Round 3 Pick 15: Joshua Garnett, OG, Stanford - Probably won't fall past the 2nd round so it's a no-brainer here. |
