Hagan,

Remember the SP presser from a few months ago where he kept stating "we need to be at the QB by 3 Mississippi?" Not saying Spence will be the selection however he is certainly on the Saints radar. They have spent quite a bit of time with this kid (Senior bowl, combine, dinner, visit, workout etc).

Imagine this... a former Buckeye in Black and Gold .

We'll reach and make him a first rounder

We did it with Patrick Robinson when he was billed as an early third round pick.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Given how the draft went last year I'm going to take a stab at who I think Ireland picked out. Last year Ireland picked players from Stanford, Clemson, Washington, FSU in the first three rounds. Given the concussion issues, it should come as no surprise Swann played for Georgia a school that really hasn't had many defensive players recently translate to NFL.

1.Either Lawson, Robinson, or Jack is the pick. Jack is at the top here, and Robinson and Lawson is a pickem.

2.If he's available and saints go Lawson or Jack round 1 I believe this Clark will be the pick. Possibly the first two picks could be from the same school. Odds are though that won't happen with Ireland. Otherwise if it is Robinson, I think it is Bullard from Florida. Possibly he could be paired with Jack. And Bullard is supposedly DT capable, and we do like hybrids.

3.If we don't go Jack in first this is where I could see it being Smith. Otherwise it's Washington from OSU. I could see the saints getting perhaps a second DT here if Bullard is not taken.

4.This is where guard comes into play. However it may be a OT. I believe BPA will be Kyle Murphy from Stanford if he falls to us. Otherwise I think it's McGovern. The other ones to be on lookout for is John Theus of Georgia and Avery Young of Auburn.

5.This will be a reach DJ Reader of Clemson.

6.Do we draft a receiver here? My first guess is CB, and it will be Brandon Williams from Texas A&M. If we get a receiver, it will be Ricardo Louis of Auburn as he fits the profile of a tall, physical receiver and he played for Auburn.

I am not for all of these players btw.

Here goes ladies and gentlemen.
Round-1
DeForest Buckner-DE-
Oregan
Falls in our lap. I would love Ramsey here more but redshirting him at pick #12 makes no sense to me.
Round 2
Austin Johnson-NT- Penn State
Round 3
Vadal Alexander-G-LSU
Round 4
Denver Kirkland-G-Arkansas
Round 5
DJ Reader-NT-Clemson
Round 7
Kevin Byard-S-Middle Tennesse

What is wrong with Ramsey? Jaylon Smith is the guy with bad knees.

Buckner and Ramsey are top 5 picks.

Buckner and Ramsey are top 5 picks.

he has shown great versatility throughout his career, splitting time between cornerback and safety his freshman year, playing the Spur spot in 2014, before moving back to corner as a junior.

Jalen Ramsey Draft Profile

Jaylon Ramsey has never played the same position at FSU. So despite being a 3 year starter at FSU he is still raw for the most part.

This is why I would not be surprised to see him slip a bit in the draft. When was the last time you saw a safety drafted this high? That is exactly what this kid is. Can he become a CB at the next level that justifies top 10? not sold on that skill set just yet. Right now he is a starting SS with exceptional coverage and tackling skills in year one. He can be your back up FS with out loosing much sleep over really. Give him a year or two and he is you starting FS.

At this point he is another Deone Bucannon. At 22 Deon was a steal. Top 5? top 10 maybe. Top 15 without a doubt.

Jaylon Ramsey has perennial pro bowl FS written all over him. Byrd's replacements.

Yes, and I prefer Conklin over a two-down defensive lineman; plus if you read Conklin's scouting, history, he's an A+ player...

As posted before, can't see spending a first round pick, let alone a high first round, on a two-down defensive lineman...

When you invest that pick, you need to get maximum snaps, plays out of that player...

What concerns me about Billings, Rankins is their size...

At the pro-level almost every team now has big guards with long arms in blocking schemes to neutralize these bowling ball-types...

Most effective nose tackles, interior linemen in today's games are long, mammoth types...

I'd rather take a big (6'4"+, 285+ lbs) defensive end to bookend with Cam Jordan who can seal the edge, slide inside on long passing plays...

Billings and Rankins remind me of former Sedrick Ellis; he'll just get rolled up and pushed outta the way...

Would not surprise me one bit. Add the possibility of Tenn trading back up also. I think if Stanley is within reach they will go after him. He fits what Tenn is doing. Both top LB with medical red flags opened up this Pandora's box imo.

How would you feel if this is what we do as the NFL freaks out

12 - Myles Jack
47 - Jaylon Smith

or better yet and these two drop into our laps more than once?

12 - Jarran Reed
47 - Myles Jack
78 - Jaylon Smith

I for one would love the gamble. what a payoff if one works out. both hit the field in 2017 ? score a big one for the home team. both have long productive years? that would be a draft of legendary proportions.

RC -

If you watched the defense closely last season, it was pretty obvious we need another pass rusher badly. If I were a gambling man, I'd say we have a plan for Spence. A 3 Tech is a HUGE needs down in New Orleans (see article below).

Sean Payton lists Saints

Your guess is good as mine on the draft order for the Saints, however if you think about all the time, effort they have spent with him he could very well be one of our top two picks. Just for a moment, ignore all of the off the field issues he has and focus on his play. The guy is a serious edge rusher & has shown on tape that he can get to the QB fast (3 Mississippi) and arrive with bad intentions.

Que sera sera.

Saints OLB Hau'oli Kikaha...

I'm a fan of Kikaha but I don't think he can hold up as an every down run defender. Teams are going to run right at him, likely with a good amount of success.

There are better players than Spence in this draft without the past issues that are able to rush the passer and stop the run. All Spence can do is rush the passer, I would rather they not draft a one trick pony in the first

For my money, if Treadwell is off the board, this is how I'd geaux...

R1, S12 (Pick 12) DL Chris Jones, Mississippi St; Height: 6' 5"; Weight: 310 lbs.

R2, S16 (Pick 47) DE Bronson Kaufusi, Brigham Young; Height: 6’ 6”; Weight: 285 lbs.

R3, S15 (Pick 78) LG Conner McGovern, Missouri; Height: 6' 4"; Weight: 306 lbs.

TRADE CB Keenan Lewis for late 3rd, early 4th rd pick and select CB Kalan Reed, Southern Miss; Height: 5’ 11”; Weight: 192 lbs.

R4, S14 (Pick 112) WR Keyarris Garrett, Tulsa; Height: 6' 3"; Weight: 220 lbs.

R5, S13 (Pick 152) NT D.J. Reader, Clemson; Height: 6’ 3”; Weight: 327 lbs.

R6, S12 (Pick 187*) TRADED this pick with 2015 Sixth Round Pick traded for DB Damian Swann (2015, R5, S31, Pick 167)

R7, S16 (Pick 237) K Jaden Oberkrum, TCU; Height: 6' 2"; Weight: 183 lbs.

And I'd strongly scout this Uberwonder outta Germany; bring Moritz Boehringer for a very close look and very intense workout...

See what he's about and if he's the goods, think of trading our 7th round pick and next year's 6th round for a 6th round pick...

At the very least, determine if he can learn the nuances (e.g. route tree, getting off the line) of the pro game and compete within a year...

maybe, put some Gumbo queen on him at the least to start the UDRFA recruitment...

Chris Jones was the best rated pass rusher of the interior defensive linemen, so he could actually be a three down lineman...

Jones has also played all across the defensive front, so his versatility makes his star that much brighter...

Jones is the pick at 12 if we can't take Treadwell to put across Cooks and put a legit threat in the red zone...

No way...Chris Jones is definitey going in the first, probably top 20...

He's that versatile, and he can play three downs...

Getting a three down player is a big box to check on your first round picks...

Chris Jones at 12? I'll be surprised if he is a day one selection. Would prefer A Johnson or J Reed in this scenario.

CJ is bit too raw for my liking.

Bradford has 22 M guaranteed + Chase D has about 10M in his pocket.

I think Philly is either targeting the O lineman from Ole Miss or RB Ezekiel Elliot. Bottom line for us Saint fans is that the more offensive players taken off the board, there is a good possibility a stud defensive player falls to us ;) .
