A stellar week in Mobile at the Senior Bowl secured his place in the top half of Round 1.

at 12? sorry i would not be a happy camper. senior bowl does not make up for season and get you into the top 20.

What's your report on Rankins?

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I like the kid but his rankings are all post season hype. good way to think about his senior bowl performance is more a refection of the quality of interior OL. not so hot this year. The end of round works but i have that as a bit of a reach. Plus he did not go up against a ton of talent either during the season.

my fear is he can be passed off too easily by an experienced line at the next level. pushed around. That is why i am still not sold on his bull rushing capabilities at the next level. so far i have him as a finesse DT.

But i am waiting on bench, high jump, shuttle and cone times before i completely buy into his quick twitch and power move hype. even then i will go back and look at him again.

lets put it this way a team thinks they need to trade with us to get him, i have little reason right now not to take the picks and move down. plenty of talent at DT this year and so far he has not impressed me enough to think he is a must pick player in the top 20.

Some interesting pre-Combine notes from Matt Miller at Bleacher Report...

— As the combine approaches, one of the hottest names in the class is Boise State edge-rusher Kamalei Correa. One scout I spoke to this week thinks Correa could propel himself into the top 25 picks of the draft, especially given a weak group at the "EDGE" position this year.

— Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander left school after two seasons as a starter, but in talking to one AFC scout this week, they're not a fan of that decision. Three different team scouts confirmed this week that they have Alexander graded as a "Day 3" player given his smaller size (listed at 5'11", 195 lbs) and the fact he didn't record an interception at Clemson.

— The buzz around Louisiana Tech defensive lineman Vernon Butler continues to grow. Said one team scout after watching Senior Bowl practices on tape last week, "Butler can be another Marcell Dareus. He's that good."*

— "I know you guys like Leonard [Floyd], but where the hell are you gonna play him in the NFL?" Those are the very blunt words of one general manager this week, remarking on the 6'4", 230-pound linebacker from Georgia.

I went back on the kid and so far I see why the upside hype is there

Never bought into the kid completely. at best a see a solid #2 CB in him.

I think this is kid that has room to fill out a bit more with out effecting his game. But he is a Jack of all trades master of none, that might not ever become of a master of any. great puzzle piece player to jump all around but even in the second i would not be running his name up to the commish. He is a hard player to figure out. He disappeared for long stretches of the season and even when he did reappeared it was nothing more than flashes. He is still living off his preseason hype IMO.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Why draft Floyd when you've got a player in Schobel (Wisconsin) who was extremely productive in college at a high level (Div I Big 10) and will be there somewhere between the fourth and fifth round?!?

I've seen Floyd and I see him as a smallish 4-3 WLB at best that will be oft-injured because I don't seem him filling out that frame...

Really, really like Vernon Butler, but I don't like taking an unproven quantity in the first and he'll probably be gone by the time we pick in the second round; we can't afford to gamble, so I'd make the priority in Free Agency to sign Damon Harrison and have Butler as a Plan B/C...

Don't get the mocks having us take Alexander in the first; gotta be a bunch of Saints/Small Market Haters; Best cornerback we can draft will be a third round pick who should be there for us, Bayor's Xavien Howard...

Changes to the UnderRoos Olympics?!?

Definitely like Gotsis...

Like some of those UDFA...

Someone is going to throw out at least a 6th Round pick on Austin...

Ryker Mathews has intriguing size...

Can't see keeping Morstead at that cap number; not with that production...

with colston appearing to be out the door

Round 1
Laquon Treadwell WR Mississippi 6031 210 4.52

Round2
Tyler Boyd WR Pittsburgh 6015 200 4.47

Round 3 on is pretty much a jumbled mess and grabbing at straws. Who am I missing? looking mighty thin for tall WR this year

Paul McRoberts, WR, SE Missouri St 6016 202 4.53
Kenny Lawler, WR California 6021 195 4.54
Keyarris Garrett WR Tulsa 6033 221 4.64

Geronimo Allison, WR, Illinois 6021b 197 4.50
Hand 9 Arm 33 1/4 Wing 79

Devon Cajuste, WR, Stanford 6032 234
Hand 10 5/8 Arm 32 3/4 Wing 69 ?

Tajae Sharpe, WR, UMass 6025 200 4.48
Hands 7 3/4 Arm 31 1/2 7 Wing 5 1/2
Still one of my favs. IMO you throw out the rule of thumb concerning the hands.

Cody Core WR Mississippi 6205 207 4.49
Hand 10 3/8 Arm 31 1/2 Wing 80 1/2

Well ...

A WR in the first is a lot more exciting than a lineman in the first, but I hope we don't go that route this year. SP loves his toys on offense though, so it wouldn't surprise me if we took Treadwell (assuming he is there at #12). We absolutely must fix our offensive line and defensive front 7.

I'd like to add a great young WR or CB to this team, but I don't think it's a necessity right now. Find a good OLB and DE and this defense could turn around really quickly. It's the quickest and easiest way to fix the defense outside of getting rid of #39 (post June 1st cut).

Side note - hadn't seen Josh Doctson's name thrown out on this board that much but I think this kid will be a better pro than Treadwell. Good size, great hands & decent speed.

In saying all of that, I hope we select a big nasty down in the trenches @ #12 :p.

Really think Laquon Treadwell could be there for us at No. 12, and if he is, expect Sean Payton to pull the trigger...

And it would absolutely be the right move...

Tulsa's Keyarris Garrett would be worth the gamble in the third round...

Stanford's Devon Cajuste was absolute money when Stanford knocked off Notre Dame and watching Kevin Hogan and Cajuste on those clutch plays reminded me so much of Brees to Colston...

Treadwell and Cajuste would be great fits to the Saints offense; Garrett would take slightly more work, but he's got a higher ceiling than Coleman...

All can catch the ball...:bng:

I will loose my grits if we go WR in the first 2 rounds. DL and OL needs to go 1 and 2 unless there is a few surprise signings. Our DB's are much better than we think but because of the lack of pass rush they broke the wrong records. Snead, Coleman and Cooks can hold down the fort this year.

My thoughts are our needs go in this order:
DT
DE
OG
OLB
TE
SS/FS
CB
WR

Yes sir. Build the line. Create a better Dline and push rush through the draft. Of course also finally get 2 competent corners on the field in the same season. Get Lewis healthy across from Breaux and that's Greer/Porter.

saints need a boring draft with just a touch of spice, I agree.

spice for me if medicals check out is Jaylon Smith. Been a long time since a true 43 WLB has come along that appears to be the total package. I can wait a year.

I do not see anyone else falling into our laps. Treadwell would have to run a 4.65. IMO he is just what the giants need to round out their WR corp. Chicago will probably steal the best DT on the board. The talent level for DT does not fall off the map in round one. after that I pray the saints trade back in all honesty.

DT later in round 1 would be my plan and I would ignore everything else. Unless Smith is there at 12 of course. Get picks! that helps a cap out more than anything else.

Smith is an extreamly good player and if we draft him in the 1st it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. Probably would put a smile on my face to be honest but NT needs to be addressed.

Blah, blah, blah, NT, OL, DL, LB, you guys don't know what you're talking' about. There's been one position, full of useless players that's cost us more games than any other. You know what it is: Roberto Aguayo in the first round and then we can all go home. (Except Danno who'll end up in the ER.)

LOL...

Well, if we spent anything higher than a fifth rounder on a kicker not named Morten Andersen...

Saints Nation might explode...

We used our nine lives on a guy named Erxleben...

Hahaha! How does it feel to be the only guy on B&G that can spell that correctly?

Seriously, I wouldn't blink on spending our three on him. Got to be a better gamble than a number 2 pick on SJB...

See if he is available by the 3rd or 4th round, then snag him. With all of the rule changes on Xtra points, PAT's aren't exactly 'automatic'.

Time to find and develop a kicker. There is value & they can be weapons.

Smith and Jack will be there at 12. Injuries are dropping them. I would like Noah Spence or A'Shawn Robinson in rd 1. Vadal Alexander, Adolphus Washington or Vernon Butler in the 2nd. I believe all 5 of those players could start from day 1.

I know there are more pressing needs but I would love Kenneth Dixon in the 3rd. I know a lot of people would be mad with a RB that early but the kid is a stud. MIA would be pushed to preform or pushed out the door.

The major problem is it's McMahon developing him. We pretty much need a finished product out there doing the place kicking.

Doubt he'd be there; but the LaTech running back would be really great value there...

With so much invested in FA at running back though, limited cap space, and needs along the defensive line, safety, wide receiver, left guard, tight end...

...well, you get the idea...

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Willie Beavers OT/OG W Michigan 6042 324 5.17
Hands 9 1/2 Arms 33 1/2 Wing 80 1/4
Bench 20
keeps popping up in my head as a solid OT/OG developmental guy. transition to a guard in year or two down the road. But the kid moves well in space and we all know the screen game is huge with us. At senior bowl the experiment with Beavers at right guard was not pretty but he has played only OT in college. Swing back up at OT while hitting the weight room and learning to play guard? He is not as much of project as Le'Raven Clark who still sparks an interest. freaking spread OL drive me nuts lol

Here is an odd one at the combine I have not looked at much.
Dominique Robertson OT/OG West Georgia 6046 324 5.29
Hands 10 5/8 arms 35 5/8 wing 86
Bench 30

30 reps with 36-inch arms dammmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnn. In two years you might have something
He looked pretty good as a developmental prospect at the NFLPa bowl

continue to impress, some what
Joshua Garnett OT/OG Stanford 6041 317 5.38
Hand 9 7/8 Arm 33 3/8 Wing 79 3/8
Bench 30
Joe Dahl OG Washington St. 6041 299 5.29
Hand 8 3/4 Arm 32 3/4 Wing 79 1/2
Bench 28
Connor McGovern, OG, Missouri 6042 305 5.02
Hand 10 3/8 Arm 32 Wing 79 1/2
Bench 33

I leaning towards a draft with better prospect values on day 3 than on 1 and 2.

Ezekiel Elliott, Devontae Booker, Kenneth Dixon, C.J.Prosise, Dan Vitale, Glenn Gronkowski, are a few RB i am watching

I am not writing Ezekiel Elliott off if the saints trade down.

SP likes impact in round 1.

I would hunt SP down and kick him right in his Scooby Doo if he drafted a rb in rd 1.

Nerve issue? Bummer. I still don't think this guy falls out of the 1st round.

it is the type of brace. some use it because it works better for them than the other type. Initial reports said no nerve damage so I say wait and see what is the final official report.

At this point Jaylon is gonna become a super duper value pick for a team that has either solid depth at the position or the luxury of waiting it out.

We went through this with Vilma...

He'll be lucky if he ever plays thirteen games in a season...

Pass...

The topic of nerve issues with Jaylon Smith's injury seems to be picking up steam. Poor guy... It sounds worse than we thought.
