OG needs to be addressed, no issues there. TE really needs to be addressed as well, maybe as high as the 3rd. Safety I don't agree with. We have good DBs (aside from Browner), but they need support from a pass rush. We have 1 good D-lineman in Jordan, outside of him we have a bunch of rotational/practice squad guys. If we keep giving QBs 5 seconds to throw it wont matter what DBs we have. |

I advocated drafting Coleman, but the guy has stone hands and simply can't be trusted in that same situation to go up and get the ball and convert critical third downs... We've got to get the safety play to improve and shut down those big pass plays that kill us; Byrd can't stay healthy and on the field; Vaccaro, well, he just seems like a real stupid player with bone-headed personal fouls and late assignment pickups (Harper was just slow in his); the guys whose names I've posted would be there when we pick and that's why I've got 'em there... I think we could have a great, honest pass rush if we schemed and got ALL our pass rushers on the field - and the 3-4, which many of them are the fit, would do that... Glad to hear we agree on Guard and Tight End; I think this'll be a deep tight end class and my guy will probably move up after the combine, pro days... |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I think drafting 2 TE might be a simple way of boosting the run game and help out alot on shallow to mid routes. Maybe between 3-5th round. Might take a trade to get them!!

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
You don't draft for need, and draft talk before free agency is stoopid.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Cook as a number 1? I still need to see him used more as a WR than a toy. this year was a huge improvement over last year so i am waiting to see what year three brings.

Drafting BPA is what lead to the scouting department getting cleaned out. I guess you can say that drafting BPA never goes away... you still draft BPA, just at positions of need...lol |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I have been waiting all year for draft talk lol But that is me. I spend all season long watching college way too many college games and talking with people outside of B&G about players so I can not help but get giddy at the end of the season.
I do not believe FA should influence the draft issue big boards one bit, that in a round about way is building a team based on needs. FA address needs at position with proven vets. But to let those moves influence your big board or the players you draft is using needs as a governing factor in your war room. any ways Drafting BPA is the best approach IMO. If that means you move up or down to get a player that you targeted as the BPA that also fills a need then you are going about things the right way. But if you are sitting there and a player falls into your lap as the BPA you have to take them. Cam Jordan is a great example. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I'm still in the D lineman mindset at #12 pick. These needs could completely change depending on FA.
Watch those run stuffers for Bama tonight. I'd say 4,5 or 6 could go in the first round. All we need is do is select the right player that best fits our needs/scheme on D. "You stop the run, then a team becomes one dimensional". - Jon Gruden. Edit: No disrespect to the Clemson squad - (specifically Shaq Lawson) I'll keep a lazy eye on their guys as well. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
At 12 I am hoping for impact more than anything. Whatever the position the player needs to step in by the second year and become a starter for many years. pro bowls means you struck gold bit a long term solid starter is what i am expecting. we all know about busts, that is why I ahte hype at this point of the draft.
so WR DE DT QB are all options in my book. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
1/11 (pre senior bowl)
going by CBSsports rankings: Shaq Lawson DE Clemson Vernon Hargreaves III CB Florida Robert Nkemdiche DT/DE Ole Miss would all be there at pick 12. I'd even throw in Myles Jack LB UCLA due to his injury, he might still be on the board. Now if somehow all four are off the board, then I'd rather they draft another top offensive lineman as long as it isn't a reach |

Hartgreaves fits the CB we have. bad tacklers and that go for TO first. We need CB that can come up in run support and tackle. Robert Nkemdiche I can not figure out. production is just not there, like DeForest Buckne I pause and get tenative. I would go for a player later in the draft that has the same kind of production issues IE Chris Jones |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
The guys doing the social media for the Saints has some sense of humor at least. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
who impressed me in the championship game
O.J. Howard? why has Saban not used this kid. I knew he had skills but nothing to the point I saw last night Eric Mac Lain, OG, Clemson - he held his own against the vaunted bama DT. Not perfect but I was impressed Kevin Dodd? will he come out? Talk about a solid mid round pick. Jonathan Allen, showed great football IQ Jarran Reed and A'Shawn Robinson while not a stat giant I like the gap integrity he showed Reggie Ragland could be the thumper in the middle the saints need |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Kevin Dodd - he sure looked good last night.
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I was totally underwhelmed by Robinson and Ragland last night. I thought both played with lack of tenacity and effort. Both their stocks downgraded for me yesterday.
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I'm not alone, I never got the Ragland hype. He's no where the prospect that McClain or Mosley were in college
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Thought Shaq Lawson looked decent considering he was playing on a bum MCL. He made some plays.
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
If he can declare for the draft, I liked what I saw from Mackensie Alexander CB Clemson until he left the game

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
So, DE Kevin Dodd from Clemson declared for the draft today. Probably a late 2nd to 3rd round pick at this point I think. I wouldn't mind targeting him in that range. The more I've seen the more I wonder why Lawson gets all the credit. I watched him for most of the game the other night (wasn't exactly hard to do) and he played balls out all night long. Ideally I would love to see one of the top OLB's in the 1st and then getting him in the 2nd or 3rd. Could work wonders for our..... gosh what's that thing called? A lot of other teams have one and we never seem to... oh yeah, pass rush.

The Mel speaks...
Mel Kiper releases his first mock draft for 2016 - NFL 12. New Orleans Saints *A'Shawn Robinson, DL, Alabama The Saints really need to add another versatile defensive lineman, and Robinson fits the bill. In fact, the 6-foot-3, 313-pounder is an immediate starter who combines great awareness and strength to make plays and hold the point in the run game, as well as the ability to push the pocket. There isn't a place where the Saints can go wrong adding talent on defense. |

Senior Bowl week (January 25-30)
Five Names to Know—Senior Bowl Offense Edition 5. No. 22 RB Aaron Green, TCU A true three-down back with excellent hands and route-running skills, Aaron Green has the tools to impress on the field in Mobile thanks to his pass-catching chops and quick running style. He's a poor man's version of Ameer Abdullah. 4. No. 9 WR Jordan Payton, UCLA Jordan Payton had a great season at UCLA (78 catches, 1,106 yards, 5 TDs) with Josh Rosen at quarterback, and at 6'1" and a solid 212 pounds, Payton has the body and speed to catch the eye of scouts in one-on-one drills against Senior Bowl cornerbacks. 3. No. 89 TE Jerell Adams, South Carolina Adams has talent, and could have a Clive Walford-like week in Mobile where he overcomes his college scheme to make plays on a big stage. 2. No. 55 G Cody Whitehair, Kansas State Whitehair is the top-ranked offensive lineman accepting an invite to Mobile, and he has a chance to be a legit top-20 pick in this year’s class. A left tackle at Kansas State, he looks like a future All-Pro at guard. 1. No. 78 T Cole Toner, Harvard I’ve written about Toner before, and even though he’s listed at tackle, I think his best pro position is center (a la Mitch Morse). A good week can push him into Day 2 of the draft. 2016 NFL Draft: Matt Miller's Scouting Notebook for Divisional Weekend | Bleacher Report Jordan Payton WR UCLA Miles Killebrew SS Southern Utah Vernon Butler DT La Tech Harlan Miller CB SLU |

But First
The 2016 East-West Shrine Game, Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. ET. The cream of the crop for mid round and late round players will be on display then there are the select few that will jump into the lime light and head to the Senior Bowl for another round of the NFL pre draft beauty show. As most know WR Tajae Sharpe, UMass leads my list as players to watch Anthony Zettel Michael Jordan just to name a few. |
