4. Saints LB Stephone Anthony to the San Francisco 49ers
As we just covered, the 49ers are in the selling market more than they are the buying one, but they could potentially add a big piece to their rebuilding project with a former first-round pick from a year ago. Stephone Anthony was one of the highest-graded linebackers in the nation during his final year at Clemson, with a grade of 87.1. He was instinctive, athletic, and productive. Then he went to New Orleans…

Anthony’s rookie year with the Saints was a disaster, and he ended with an overall grade of 43.3 before finding his role virtually eliminated this season. He has played just 55 snaps, almost all on the edge rather than in the middle at linebacker, and looks like a player the team has pretty much given up on already. That Saints’ defense has killed the career of many players over the past few years, and Anthony could be a perfect example of a defender that discovers his true potential at his second NFL destination.

The 49ers could take a gamble on a guy like Anthony and find themselves with a first-round linebacker joining the defense to aid in their rebuilding project.

Really say we move forward with Stupar or Robertson at the WILL where both have been good, especially in pass coverage...

Payton (and Allen) moved on from Westbank because he wasn't "available" and I'd put Byrd and Ellerbe right there among players the past 3 seasons who haven't been "available", So why keep him?

Should have used his salary slot and some of the overspent TE money on a LBer like Danny Trevathan...

Kikaha is not the future at OLB in the current Saints' scheme; he was set to play DE, which I feel he lacks the bulk to play and will expose him to further injury at his size...

With Guard, Defensive End and Linebacker priorities in the next offseason, would like to see Onyemata working at DE in the base opposite Cam Jordan and see if Jordan-Rankins-Davison/Fairley-Onyemata could work thereby minimizing the offseason work to guard and linebacker...

A packers buddy is mad as heck about this one also. he likes the risk the saints are taking with the players we are picking for special teams. Despite great special teams play his play as a safety is questionable

GREEN BAY - The Packers negotiated an injury settlement with safety Chris Banjo, allowing them to release him to waivers.

It became clear the Packers were going to negotiate a settlement after they placed Banjo on injured reserve with a minor hamstring injury. When the injury isn't expected to last more than six weeks, the player is put on injured reserve with a "minor" designation.

The team then has to work out an injury settlement or allow the player to rehab until healthy and then cut him.

Banjo, a popular figure in the locker room and one of the team's best special teams players last year, was limited to two games this season because of the hamstring ailment. He played in 37 regular-season games for the Packers over four seasons.

Well, I hope it works out because we sure didn't keep the last Packer that those fans were upset was left exposed to waivers...

The pending loss of Mauti is important to special teams, but he was as important to linebacking depth, not safety depth...

I am starting to see, more clearly a lack of talent elevation and an air of desperation in the saints organization that is really worrying me more than ever.

You know I am not and have not been happy with the saints safety play nor the moves the saints have made in recent years to solve the talent. I have beaten this drum into pieces

keep an eye on this draft for secondary players especially on day 2.

But alas I have little faith they will do anything once again.

In the back of my mind is that quote of Kenny Vaccaro where he challenged some players to be great and there was speculation it was about Byrd...

Nonetheless, injuries happen, but when they happen often, you have to question the player's commitment to the necessary level of mental and physical conditioning necessary for that player to be "available."
