The Saints seem like they'd win that trade, as they'd obtain a legitimate shutdown corner. Butler would be huge for New Orleans' awful defense." -Walter

I agree he'd be an upgrade...but we still need help on the defensive line. What about Conner Barwin?

Its a terrible deal
We would have to give him 12-15ml a year to get him to stay after his tag. Just pay another FA.

If the Pats are offering anything you know its loaded to them. It always is.

I've said it before, it seems like the Pats always get the good deal and the other team gets the **** at the end of the stick. They always come out on top. For all we know they put a first round tender on Butler because they already knew they were going to get Gilmore. Then they put the tender on Butler to increase his trade value to another team. I wouldn't put it past that front office.

Barwin is too old and prolly wants to get more than he is worth but i do agree we do need help on the defensive line but all the really good linemen are all resigned, will have to get them out of the draft.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

2 or 3 years 8ml a year would be cool for Barwin as long as its only 2 years guaranteed. Add him and a Pass rusher in the draft and its a huge upgrade

The pats would need to throw in at least a rd 5. Cooks has a small contract year and at the most 8 million next year when the pats pick up his option. Butler will cost us 10-12 million a year starting this year. Why this year? No way we make this trade less we have a contract worked out this year. So butler and a 5th I would take. He would strengthen this defensive backfield right away. Throw in fairley, a de and a guard we can go into the draft with a bpa again. No doubt in my mind butler is worth it but they need to get compensation for taking on that contract.

And with Sean's reverence for BB I feel like we're less likely to play hardball with them than with another team.. I dunno man, just gives me an uneasy feeling.

True. I would never make any deals with the Pats. Almost a given you are going to get the short end of the stick. All of these proposals are weak. Cook's is a damn good WR. No less than a 15th or go away.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

I don't think our issue has been cornerback, even with the backups playing most of the season...

Our problem was an ineffective, overpaid free safety and NO PASS RUSH...

I can't really disagree with what you're saying, but I'm fine with doing this trade. We need a shutdown CB and we think this can be our guy. Does it have down side and risk? Absolutely. Let's wait and see what happens and if there are picks involved.

Or Cooks will not get moved (traded) in 2017 & I wouldn't have a problem with that either.

Cooks will need a new deal soon as well.... we need A CB ! I would love this trade !

Cooks needs a new deal in 2 years. He is cheap in 17/18 and you can tag him in 19 too

I agree. Sounds to me like they're just working out details. They already have someone to take the top off the defense. Cooks is probably as good as gone in the next day or so.

You sure? Philly signed Torrey & the Saints FO already turned down offers from NE and the Titans. We could be running out of trading partners unless the Browns and/or Jacksonville get involved.

Edit: See Cooks post below.

Ginn Jr is inconsistent and 32. This could be primarily a KO signing more than a Cooks' replacement.

Cooks has gone imo
The money needs saved if they are trying to get Fairley and Zietler under contract

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

I don't like this trade for several reasons...first...Cooks is younger and is the only WR we have that can stretch the defense. They better have a hell of a plan to add speed to the WRs. Secondly, I bet the Patriots get Gilmore cheaper than we can get Butler signed for. If the Patriots are willing to move on from Butler for a WR that they truly don't need then that raises a flag to be... .buyer beware....

jeanpierre 03-09-2017 01:03 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Butler swap doesn't make sense for us because we've got Del Breaux who's gonna have to get extended among others...

Second, we wanted to add a taller, longer cornerback and that's not Malcolm Butler's physical attributes...

Third, the pass rush and the backstop at safety have been more the problem in the pass defense than CB...

Fourth, he's gonna command waaaay too much money in a contract extension, why not trade with Titans and get a younger CB?

lee909 03-09-2017 01:04 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Id hold fire on Butler-Cooks
The Pats dont wabt to pay him and are paying huge money for Gilmore so wont get a great comp pick. Wait till tbe draft and offer a 2

Beastmode 03-09-2017 01:10 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Ginn has admitted having a learning disability, says he has to go over things numerous times to get it. That is going to work out great in our offense if he does more than a return.

michael lombardi from Twitter35m
FYI....The Pats cannot trade Butler until he has a signed NE contract, right now he has been tendered, not signed. He is a restricted FA

I'd rather get that No. 5 pick than have to sign a CB who's not going to be all that for us...

It's the pass rush Sean, the pass rush...

jeanpierre 03-09-2017 03:42 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

This is why I want no part of Malcolm Butler...

You just won a Superbowl with him as your No. 1 CB; Butler saved another Superbowl win for you a couple of years ago as a rookie...

...And now they're gonna risk that kind of money on Gilmore and not keep their own established cornerback?!? WHY?!?

...Sean & Co., quit your complaining about coaching rookies and earn your checks and Take the Best Package of Draft Picks...

Belichick and the Pats DON'T LOSE ON TRADES - EVER!

Talks from a Browns friend that they will move for Jimmy Garoppolo.
Could work out good,Pats get the picks they send our way for Cooks

Nice. Now there's a scenario I like. I forget, what spot is the Browns second 1st rounder at again?

lee909 03-09-2017 05:13 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Browns have

Rd. 1, Pk. 1
Rd. 1, Pk. 12
Rd. 2, Pk. 1
Rd. 2, Pk. 20
Rd. 3, Pk. 1

Beastmode 03-09-2017 05:14 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Browns just signed Brock. Garoppolo ain't going there...maybe he is...this is getting cra cra. So they now may have a QB to ride the pine for 16m for a 2nd round pick.

lee909 03-09-2017 05:16 PM

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Browns took on his salary for 16ml and a 2nd round pick

They are already talking of cutting him and are actively trying to trade him on while taking on a portion of his salary. They have 100ml in cap space so took him to use space they have too and get a 2nd round pick no other reason

Nuts. If we get that 12 for Cooks though and a decent corner I think that is a fair deal.
