And defense WILL be game planning for Thomas. I didn't think Thomas was anything like AJ Green or Jones last year, he was good because of his role. But he was no deep threat. And who's going to fill those shoes left by Cooks. The week 1 game against the raiders, the week 6 game against Carolina. The week 15 game against Arizona. The week 10 game against Denver. Who won those games for us or almost? Coleman better be ready. Because he's gonna be needed a lot next year. |

Would much rather have the wr we could get at 14. Control his salary for 4 years. Williams/Davis, big receivers, both have higher ceiling ...esp Davis

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
We'll be fine. We never had a WR like Cooks. We actually do better with a bunch of average Joes just happy to be starting on a team with no attitude about touches. Look at the Pats this year, their WR's were hot and cold all season. Nobody said a word and none of them are that special. Edelman man only had 3 TDs.

a D-heavy draft in '17 and we're asking for picks in '18 |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I guess we'll see what comes to fruition. But if Cooks wants out, show him the door while getting compensated fairly. The current staff has never cared for "me first" players and had gotten rid of them quickly.
The next week should be entertaining to say the least. |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
One of the announcers at the Combine had the Saints on the LF short list. Really? Not even sure how they came to that conclusion. I will say though Blount sure did give Brady a lot of relief this season. 18TD for Blount. Sure makes the job of an older QB a hell of a lot easier.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Ive said before about Ingram
I kike him but he is a bit of a jack of all trades RB. He can do everything but nothing to an exceptional level. He doesnt have the speed of the top backs or the power of the biggest. Ive often thought we could do with a monster back there for short yardage. A Blount,Jacobs type. Once the get their feet moving they are getting 2 to 3 yards wether you like it or not |

The move makes no sense. LF running style would require the saints to redo their thinking on the OL. We are not a power run scheme team. The OL is built for zone blocking. I do not think LF would do well running behind a zone scheme. Brooks? sure All this after taking the one WR that had the skill set to get teams out of playing 8 in the box? Sounds like the saints would be painting themselves into a corner on the offensive side of the ball while keeping the defense in the dumpster. It makes no sense to me unless FA money goes into the right side of the line and we get some speed at WR to take the top off a defense. |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
As much as id love to redress the rosters RBs there are more pressing needs
Id be a bit disapointed if we got an extra 1st and used it on a RB this year. Next year id be ok with if a few holes were fixed. I prefer run first football with a strong D but i think them days are gone. The league rules changes have made a Baltimore early 00 D impossible. Its about getting playmakers in the backfield and pressure in the front 7 these days imo. rush the passer and have the players capable of turnovers ready to capitalise in the backfield Unforunatley we have neither. So get the front 7 sorted, get another couple of DBs and get the O line stronger is the best place to start |

IMO, the focus needs to be on the defensive line, LBs and secondary. Maybe even the offensive line. We have huge holes and question marks all over those. RB is not a need right now. I'm not going to piss and moan if they draft Fournette, but they better have big plans to do something about the gaping holes on defense if they go that route. We already know that a really good offense and a ****ty defense won't get you more then 7-9. |

But is Payton going to actually run the ball more? |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks

Actually that's one of Ingram's srengths. Scoring at the goal line. They just don't always run it in or have used the likes of Hightower, Cadet, or Kuhn or some gadget run play by Fleener. The saints just do not commit to Ingram like that. |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Not one mention of Jimmy Garroppolo in this thread, not saying it is but Payton might be wanting this 1st round pick to hand over to NE for him, just another thing I could possibly see happening instead of drafting a qb.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I wouldnt want to give them a 1st for a man with one year left on his deal. If Drew stays he walks

John Hendrix @JohnJHendrix
I'm told that the #Saints asking price for Brandin Cooks this year is a 1st for 2017 and picks for 2018, per source. 4:20 PM - 3 Mar 2017 |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Makes sense
More chance getting better additional picks if they are in 2018 Can still trade them to get needs this year if the need is there. It would be nice to go into 2018 with a few extra picks in the bag |

I remember Bill Belichick said some realy nice things about Cooks after our joint practices and preseason game.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Now the World Champs (assuming reports are accurate) are included for the services of Cooks?? Not a stellar 2017 WR draft class either. I hope the Saints play hard ball because it's a sellers market.
As I stated earlier, only accept top dollar (1st/mid rd picks) for any trade scenario. |

The more teams interested the better

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Theyd have to give up alot of picks
Its not like they have many players to sweeten the deal They have a tonne of FA that would have been interesting and have 70ml in cap space. I cant see the Pats giving up loads of picks and i think to accept the 32 the Sainst are going to want a 2/3 or 1st in 18 |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I'd take any offer that involved a 1st round pick. Cooks ain't a franchise QB so you can forget multiple high picks. With the Pats #32 pick we'd potentially be able to package that with #11 to trade up close to the top 5 if we wanted a shot at an elite prospect.
|
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
We can get a mid round 1st for him so no way i take 32nd pick
We got 31 and Unger for Graham and he was on a big paid deal |

I'd rather have a DE like a Malik McDowell, Jordan Willis, or even a Tanoh Passagnon and take one of top 5 safeties and/or one of the top 8 CBs - get some talent all over the field on defense... |

Come on we are smarter than this. We traded a mid/late rd 1 and a rd 3 to move up 4 spots and get cooks!!!!! You think we would take the #32 pick? Besides, Pats always trade back, not up. |
