Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Surprised they turned that down
Must really think they can get multiple or that the Eagles will panic. Best hope is the top WR sign elsewhere soon and Tennesse and Philli panic |

You have to take that deal.

Tomorrow will be interesting.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I saw someone elsewhere making a comparison to the Vikings trading Percy Harvin to the Seahawks a couple years ago. The Vikings received a 1st and 7th and I think a mid-round pick the next year.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Talking with one of my best friends from Boston about the New England's interest in Cooks and Cooks trade value gave me some perspective...
I was banging the table that we should at least get a first and third and at a higher position than where we took Cooks... He agreed with me that Cooks' value will never be higher, but he offered this caveat... Why should teams have to match what the Saints gave up if Loomis & Payton over paid to begin with? And I realized as he said this, he was absolutely right; I remember (and posted often) this same sentiment... Now there's no question in my mind Cooks is a Top 5 WR in the league right now, and probably more valuable given his age, health, and resume... Mark agreed with me that swapping with the Titans and sending Cooks and even getting a second was a hose job... And he didn't think the Pats giving their first and second would be wise and that their first and third was not a move the Saints should make... So it's a quandary Payton and the Mickster will have to reconcile and will never fully get out from underneath the rightful criticism they get for over reaching in drafts... So we'll soon find what kind of trade package Cooks will net and then we can nitpick it... Personally, after reflecting on my friend's outside perspective, I'd like a deal with Tennessee where we get a Top 5 pick and maybe swap our 4th round pick for their 3rd would be about as good as we may get... If it were the Eagles, in our division, I'd want their first, or the Vikings first and their third or their first and Kendricks and Sproles (if we could mend fences)... |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Take the pick and a conditional one based on performance. I think that is fair. He's not a WR1.
|
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I think Marshall being off the market adds to BC's value.
I love that we are not settling for just the 18th pick but, as this draws out, anyone else feel that Cooks is going to explode next year with 100 catches? I get the "he's not a #1" argument, but with Brees and our offense, who will truly be a number 1? |

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
If I were the Saints,
I'd give my #1 pick every year for a proven player with another team that is just 24 years old and has never had a serious injury. Imagine how much better our team would be. This is why taking anything short of his true value doesn't make any sense. Think of the turd players we drafted and it becomes immediately clear. |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
We didn't come to the Titans or the Eagles with the trade offer. Meaning we didn't have any real intentions on trading, so we have the upper hand in negotiations. You can give us(Saints) what we want for what we have that you want or you can keep it moving while we run it up with Cooks and they will still be looking for that WR threat.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
The Saints have told teams he could be available. That interest doesnt start without leaks

As I said in my earlier post on the thread, it's not because we have to recover what Payton/Loomis overcompensated for in the trade with the Chefs, but because of Cooks' value as a 23 year old Top 5 wide receiver who is a No. 1 wideout, despite his dimunitive stature... It's just we have two No.1 WRs now and we need to spread the talent... |

And how many more targets would he have had if we did not have Thomas? When your QB is Brees there will never be a true #1 WR |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
At a minimum cooks is worth a # 15 draft pick according to NFL draft value chart.
I would not trade him for less than a #1 and a three or #1 and a player that could start on our team. If we cant make that happen I would bail. My Ideal trade would be #5 and #18 For Cooks and # 11 If I did my math correctly that would give us a +330 on the value chart or the equivalent of a # 25 2nd rd pick. The Titans get a young veteran high character productive star receiver sure thing. |

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Not looking like this is going to happen. He is a top 10 WR. 9th to be exact. He is worth more than the offers being entertained and probably worth more to us this year staying. If he wants the big payday he will simmer down and do what he has to do pretty quick.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Is it true he doesn't like Brees' arm strength?

Brace yourself ...
The New England Patriots are considering trading Malcolm Butler to the New Orleans Saints for Brandin Cooks per sources — Dianna Russini (@diannaESPN) March 9, 2017 I wouldn't like that deal at all. |

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Again, Cooks is a very young man. Butler, maybe 2 years left at his age. No unless it's that and 32.
|
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I'm afraid Butler will end up being just another system guy. Works great within the framework of their scheme, with the help of the surrounding talent. Bring him here to a new scheme with less talent around him.. I don't like the idea. I rather a draft pick(s)
|
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
The Pats tendered Butler for a 1st round draft pick. So I'm sure the Pats think this is a "wash" for both teams. Ick...IDK. I wouldn't mind Butler, but he's gonna be expensive and I really think he's more of a product of their system. The money he wants may not be what he's worth.
He's 27. So he's still young enough. I just don't know. |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
I dont think Butler is a system guy he was prolly just a diamond in the rough player from a small school. Hell you dont get 35 pass breakups in three years two of actual starting being a system guy you got to have some kind of talent and football i.q. But i would not trade them straight up. Picks would have to be involved as well.

Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
For what it's worth, here's Walter Football's take on this potential trade...
"Wow. The Patriots just spent big money on Stephon Gilmore, but their interest in Cooks is surprising, as Tom Brady seems to have an adequate amount of weapons. The Saints seem like they'd win that trade, as they'd obtain a legitimate shutdown corner. Butler would be huge for New Orleans' awful defense." -Walter |
Re: Brandin Cooks Trade Talks
Makes no sense
He needs a new top dollar deal. Why not keep Cooks and pick up one of the top FA CB instead |
