2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Like Hayden Hurst, just don't like spending a first round pick on him as he's already four years into an NFL career......

Interesting take by Mayock ...

The tight end the Saints draft might not be who you think: Mayock | NOLA.com

If Vea or Payne are sitting there at 27 I would pull the trigger to strenghten the middle for years to come.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

Here’s my pre-Combine mock draft before things get shaken up in the next week. I’m only going to give explanations for the first two picks.

R1 P27 LB Rashaan Evans, Alabama

We tried to sign Dont’a Hightower, we tried to trade for NaVorro Bowman... Let’s cut the crap and finally get us a beast LB. Evans does it all with incredible athleticism and equally high football IQ. Plug him in the middle and move Klein to full-time Sam LB where he’s better suited.

R3 P27 DE Kemoko Turay, Rutgers

I don’t like any of the edge rushers who are currently projected to be available when we pick in the first round and the free agent crop of DE’s is terrible. Kemoko Turay’s draft stock is all over the place at the moment but it’s been on the rise after a great week of Senior Bowl practices. 6’4”, 252 lbs with incredible explosiveness and agility.

R4 P27 WR Cedrick Wilson, Boise State

R5 P10 G Alex Cappa, Humboldt State

R5 P27 LB Chris Worley, Ohio State

R6 P15 CB Rashaan Gaulden, Tennessee

R6 P27 DE Kylie Fitts, Utah

R7 P27 C Brian Allen, Michigan State

Always cool to hear a different opinion! What makes you so high on him Rez? Sean Payton could definitely maximize his potential.

He’s got the speed of Michael Vick, but I’d venture to say he’s better in the open field. He has the ball carrier vision of the elite running backs in the NFL. His elusiveness is something we haven’t really seen at that position outside of a Michael Vick...but he’s a much better passer. He has far better arm talent. Vick was a more powerful passer, but he lacked the touch and accuracy he needed like Kap. His first instinct isn’t to run. He just needs to be coached up on protections and making decisions at the line pre snap. Most QB’s need a touch up in that area. I’m just imaging the offense we’d run with him and Kamara...

Also, he completed 59% of his passes in college, which isn’t spectacular, but his adjusted completion percentage when accounting for throwing the ball away and spikes was over 70%.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

So here’s a question just to pass the time...

Last year the Chiefs had the same pick as us (27) and they traded up to 10. It cost them #27, their 3rd rounder (#91) and their 2018 1st round pick.

Is there any player you would be willing to make the same trade up for if they were still on the board at #10? Bradley Chubb? Roquan Smith?

That is a fair question Chris.

For a fast, instinctive, game changing Day 1 starter at linebacker? Roquan checks a lot of boxes for me & I would do it. No on Chubb.

I think if the Saints front office is high on specific player, they could. Just last year the Saints called 20 NFL teams before they found a trading partner (Niners) in order to select the Alien aka Alvin Kamara.

But on the other hand, I believe Payton is still high on Anzalone. Somehow, we must get faster in the middle. Tampa, Carolina & the Dirty birds have those guys.

That's too much and it'll take the Chiefs five years to catch up from that overspend...

We should've leaped ahead with two No. 1's and something went down between Stephone Anthony and DA after year 1 and it cost us...
