Don’t these guys deserve their own thread when drafted. I’m too busy for nonsense like one huge thread. I like to get the news here so I can see you guys opinions and don’t have time to philydick around on google.

Like the pick...only reason he fell this far is probably because of durability concerns(mainly shoulder) and I heard he bombed some interviews at the combine.

He should definitely push V. Bell this year.

Round 6 begins... we pick at 4. Lots of great players left. A bunch of WR’s still out there for those clamoring for weapons. Emmanuel Hall, Kelvin Harmon, Stanley Morgan, etc.

The value was right (6th round)... Depth and special teams pick. Would’ve liked a pass catcher there with the options available but if you’re complaining about a 6th round pick your hopes are way too high lol.

#Saints select Saquan Hampton, S out of Rutgers in the 6th round.

6'1, 206 lbs and more of your traditional safety. A lot of experience as a kick/punt coverage team guy.

Whereas CGJ is more of an over-aggressive slot guy, Hampton is more of a play it back DB. Box safety vibes.

Hampton was Rutgers’ team MVP in 2018. The Nottingham High product was honorable mention All-Big Ten and tied for the conference lead (11th nationally) with 16 passes defended (13 pass breakups, three interceptions). Hampton also had 65 tackles and a fumble recovery.

By Keith Sargeant | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

Like most collegiate football players, Saquan Hampton said he’s dreamed of playing in the NFL since he donning his first helmet.

That dream started on a Pop Warner field in Mercer County, continued at Nottingham High School and Rutgers University, and will come to fruition in New Orleans.

Hampton, a 6-1, 206-pound safety from Hamilton Township, was picked Saturday by the Saints in the 6th round of the NFL Draft.

Rutgers has now had 62 players selected in the NFL Draft dating back to 1940, including 13 selections in the NFL Draft over the last seven years.

“Ever since I started playing football I knew the NFL ultimately was the goal,’’ Hampton told NJ Advance Media in a recent interview. “It feels good to be in the position where it’s going to come true. It took a lot of hard work to get to this point, and there’s a lot more to go.’’

false
NFL Draft 2019: Which college football conference produced the most first-round picks? Did Clemson beat Alabama (again) in No. 1 selections?

The Big Ten and ACC each had solid first-round showings in the NFL Draft. But another conference proved to be king when it comes to producing first-round picks.

An honorable mention All-Big Ten pick who tied for the conference lead and ranked 11th nationally with 16 passes defended (13 breakups, 3 interceptions) last season, Hampton was the recipient of the Rutgers football team’s Homer Hazel Award, giving to the team MVP.

Hampton was invited to the NFL Combine, where he produced a time of 4.48 seconds in the 40-yard dash and earned a 5.29 grade (meaning he’s projected as a “backup or special teams potential’’) from NFL.com.

“In my opinion of the defensive backs I’ve been around, he’s an NFL player,’’ Rutgers coach Chris Ash said. “He’s got size. He’s got speed. He can play the game. He’s got football intelligence and he’s going to make some team happy. He worked extremely hard over the last three years. (He) had some set backs with injuries but had a great senior year and just kept working and grinding and believing in the process. I’m excited to see what his future holds.''

Yes and so was 75% of the saints last year who got cut. It’s not time to look like you know more than the rest. It’s time to build depth

I'm not criticising the pick, just nowhere on anything i have seen had him listed. Its a shot in the dark at this stage anyway so you may aswell roll the dice on players you wanted as UDFA than risk losing them elsewhere

Bill Polian said today that those people that build these draft lists have only 40% of the information that those handful of people that actually make the decisions possess. It is a waste of time to try to predict the last few rounds. Fans know just enough to be dangerous.

This is true. Their chance to make the roster we already have, though, is very extreme.

Secondary won't be a problem this year. I hope we sign Ziggy now.

Welcome to New Orleans Mr. Hampton :bng:

I like the closing speed. As Chris stated in his earlier post .. possible special teams contributor or at worst practice squad candidate.

To be continued ...

When healthy, Ziggy really brings the heat on opposing QB's. As I've stated a few times, Alex Okafor's replacement isn't on the roster ...yet.

Is Okafors replacement a safety? That's all Payton will draft apparently.

Ok the safety from Floridas tape jumps out at u. The Rutgers safety....his tape does not. He wont make the team unless hes a monster special teamer.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

Hampton won't make the squad. If you're going to draft a camp body. at least make it at a position of need. Willis lll or Buggs would have made much more sense.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

WR Kelvin Harmon
WR Stanley Morgan
WR Emmanuel Hall
WR David Sills
TE Dax Raymond
DT Chris Slayton
LB Ty Summers

Really good options still out there.

Paytons motto;

Run out of ideas, draft a safety.

Just like last year when all those guys got cut before the season even began.

We have a very deep squad. I would expect most of those after the 3rd round to be subject to being cut. That is a good thing.
