But with all the Saints' talk about Day 3 being Special Teams Day, maybe it'll be DBs, LBs, and RBs...

Everyone have a great day!

We're going to get a good player with our next 2 picks. woooooohooooooo!

Hakeem Butler & Kelvin Harmon ... both very skilled WR still on the board for Day 3.

I'm kind of surprised by that.

Then there's that Foster Moreau TE guy from LSU that I really, really like. He's worth developing.

No Rick Leonard’s today please! Lots of good prospects out there still... Take the best football players and don’t overthink it.

Mack Wilson - LB (Teo's replacement?)
Riley Ridley - WR (someone needs to push Trequan & Keith)
Foster Moreau - TE (Cook is here but more of a rental FA)
Trace McSorley QB - Sean Payton has mentioned him a couple of times ... jack of all type player who is gritty. Younger version of Taysom can can throw accurately on the run.

Un drafted guy ... Hunter Renfroe of Clemson. Does not have elite/top end speed but somehow seems to get open on third down.

I'd like to see WR, CB, LB, OT, and RB with our picks today. Not in that order, but whatever falls to us. BPA is also perfect, too, as really talented WR, S, CB, and RB are still out there for the taking.

Just say NO to the Rick Leonards of the draft. Too much talent available for those kind of flaming poo fart picks.

Keep an eye on these guys too:

WR Gary Jennings (West Virginia)
WR David Sills (West Virginia)
WR Stanley Morgan (Nebraska)
TE Dax Raymond (Utah St)
DT Chris Slayton (Syracuse)
DT Kingsley Keke (Texas A&M)
DE Shareef Miller (Penn St)

I didn’t realize Riley Ridley was still out there...I’d like that pick.

Anyone believe the Saints will trade the 6th rounder and move up to the front of the 4th round and select their guy ... again ?

We've moved up in previous drafts (see Vonn Bell and Kamara) and it's worked out well.

Just a thought.

Yes!!! CGJ was a fringe 1st round player! Awesome job fellas.

CGJ was Dane Brugler’s #48 overall prospect.

What'd the move cost us?

Nice.

I'll go on notice now and say Gardner will be the talk of training camp. Not sure how he dropped this far. This guy was rated by many scouts as a top safety coming out of Florida. He could help right away.

Banjo will have to be on his A game to secure his roster spot.

He could’ve gone at the end of the 1st round and nobody would’ve called it a reach. Can play FS, SS or nickel CB.

So that leaves us with a 5th and a 7th then, guess it's not too bad. I'm ok with trading out this year's picks to move up, I just don't want to see any more if next year's picks traded.

Diz,

I believe the Saints coaches feel confident that our in house guys (Tre, Kirkwood, Cook, old man Ginn) will get it done at WR/TE in 2019.

As for Gardner, this guy was rated as a 1st/2nd round player on a lot of scouts draft board. Maybe he turns out to be Malcolm Jenkins (Philly version) in a year or two.

Never mind, my math is bad. So we gave up our 5th to make this move. I definitely don't like that as much.

Just got in to work and logged on
Nice pick there, cost a bit to move up for our guys but quality over quantity is always the better move and got to players that could have gone higher

All about winning now

The Saints roster is solid. It will be extremely difficult for a 5th rounder to make the team.

Watch his youtube highlight reel. Dude is a headhunter and a ballhawk. Malcolm Jenkins never covered like that. What is the knock on this guy?

Keep in mind, Vonn Bell is a FA after this season.

Not really worth looking at our own 5th as a 5th really though. Its no different that giving up a early 6th. So long as the team has the season they should on paper both trade ups have not cost that much. IMO anyway

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

New Orleans Saints: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida A+ Grade

There was some chatter that Chauncey Gardner-Johnson could sneak into the opening round, but I always had him mocked in the second frame. Gardner-Johnson is small, but he's a terrific play-maker. I heard that he fell because he didn't handle himself well during top-30 visits, but the Saints are getting an exceptional defensive back.

True, but with as many quality players as there are in this draft, I'd rather give up every single one of the 6th and 7th round picks in order to stay a little higher. If it's hard for a 5th rounder to crack the roster then its potentially pointless to even have later picks.

Would not be surprised if they still packaged all them to move up a few places in the 5th again. If not just draft the players who you would want as a priority UDFA

Read earlier that the Saints lined up in the nickel 79% of last season(2nd in NFL) makes sense to get better in a important position. Hopefully the Jenkins comparisons come to fruition

Patrick Robinson will be 32 and coming off torn ligaments in his ankle. No idea what kind of agility he’s still going to have.

PJ Williams... well he’s PJ Williams. You take the good with the bad.

It’s going to be awesome having CGJ as a nickel/dime CB option. Not to mention, he’ll be way better in deep zone coverage than Vonn Bell so Cover 2 becomes more effective.

lee909 04-27-2019 11:57 AM

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

Agreed the scout reports say he needs to start reading things better but couldn't have a better coach than Aaron Glenn to get him there. Hopefully someone really steps up for the CB2 job as the nickel looks pretty good and should get the takeaways if the front gets enough pressure

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

Can’t understand moving up 9 spots for a guy who may have been there at 14. We gave up a 5th when we need depth on both lines.
